Tanglewood Golf Club - Reynolds Course

About
Tanglewood in Clemmons is home to two 18-hole courses, the Championship Course and the Reynolds Course, both designed by Robert Trent Jones. Golf Digest has ranked the Reynolds Course as one of the top 75 public courses in the country. At 7,101 yards from the back tees, the golf course may lack the length of modern courses but it has all of the challenges. The sloping fairways are lined with trees and there are several doglegs that demand draws and fades from the back tees. The final hole is considered the most difficult at Tanglewood. This narrow, twisting par 4 climbs an uphill fairway guarded by a deep bunker on the left and mature woods on the right. You'll need a long, straight tee shot in order to have a chance at hitting the tiny, elevated green, which is also well protected by bunkers.

First time at course
The course layout was a bit too hilly and difficult to judge the placement of the ball. Fairways are too narrow and the greens are full of divots. We actually repaired many of them today. The fairways were well groomed and the greens were pretty fast. If a ball was hit off the fairways it went in the woods and difficult to find. The tee boxes were too hard and it was difficult to push in a tee. Overall rating was pretty good. Just needs some attention.

Played here many times. Was hoping with all the upgrades they have made the Reynolds Course might have gotten some. Greens were ‘SLOWWW’
and full off Ball marks and several were full off crows foot or crab grass. But the Sand Bunkers were in real need off maintenance Several were actually unplayable. . A Very Good layout to be overlooked as far as the maintenance is concerned. Great Value just needs some maintenance.
Rain!!
We got through 9 wet holes and the rain picked up. My friend and I decided to call it and ask for a rain check for the remaining 9 holes each. So I went through an hour of the course pointing their fingers at Golf Now and Golf Now pointing their fingers at the course. No resolution yet. Very disappointed in Golf Now on this one!!!!!!!!
Progressively getting worse
I have played this course almost every weekend since March, and it's progressively getting worse.
Tee boxes are spotty at best, the greens are filled with divots and bare spots.
The fairways are either being repaired or really need repair.
Sandtraps look like the Grand Canyon....bad enough that I took a penalty shot rather than hitting it out.
Guess I'll start looking for a new home course
I went out with an old friend on a nice day to try this course for the first time. There was no attendant at the bag drop. We found the pro shop and checked in with a friendly manager who directed us to a golf cart attendant who was helpful in directing us where to go.
On the practice putting green we felt we were in for a special day with the green fast (estimate stimp of about 11) and smooth. But we were surprised when we found the greens on the course were at least 3' - 4' slower than the practice green. Moreover, it was apparent from the large number of big unfixed ball marks on every green that he course is played by people who don't make an effort to take care of the course.
The course layout was interesting with plenty of variety from hole to hole. Most holes had significant elevation changes, and there were several holes where we found it necessary to drive the cart forward to have a look at landing zones. Fortunately the amount of play was very light so that we could do that without holding up play. At least pace of play was very good.
Course conditions:
- The tees were definitely the worst that I've seen in several years. Many were sloped and most of them had very poor turf. Grass cover was sparse and the ground was so hard on nearly every tee pad that it was difficult to place a tee in the ground. Several tee pads were closed because they were in such poor condition.
- Most of the fairways were in good condition though there were some with large bare spots.
- Greens were much slower than the practice green and pock marked with many, many unfixed ball marks. Green contours were mostly pretty gentle though you have to be careful with limited visibility of the horizon due to hills and trees to get a good read on breaks.
- Rough was in average condition and for the most part was not so deep that balls would be easily lost. (I lost none on this course.).
- Bunkers had obviously not been groomed for quite awhile. Most had footprints and quite a few were covered with wildlife footprints.
- Obstacles: There was a nice mix of water, trees, bunkers, and topology to keep things interesting.
We were quite surprised that the distance between the 9th green and 10th tee was about 3/4 mile with poor signage to indicate where to go. There was one water fountain on each nine - not nearly enough to keep players hydrated. There was also NO restroom on either nine.
Nice Layout Reynolds Course
Course is in Great Shape
Grounds Crew always checking and watering the greens
A Ranger On the course which is good but not needed Today. All alone this afternoon
Only Drawback, A Couple of Tee Boxes are Bare
No big deal, just hind a spot to hit from
No one plays after 1PM when it’s hot out

Tanglewood Reynolds Course
The course is in great shape. It gets less play than the championship course, so play is quicker. Great value.
Tanglewood
Tanglewood Reynolds or Championship Courses are the best rounds for the money in the Winston-Salem, NC area.
Pretty Good
Course was in pretty good condition. Fairways and greens were in good shape. Only complaint is tee boxes were not in good shape and bunkers were washed out. Greens were inconsistent in speed from hole to hole. Very hilly course but fun layout. Overall not bad.
Tight fun layout
I enjoyed my round and was pleasantly surprised with the layout. Several excellent holes and found that it plays somewhat difficult despite its lack of length. Greens were somewhat slow but rolled well.
Relaxing Teacher
Very nice staff,
I enjoyed the layout. It was extremely hot but “Championship Course “ had plenty of shade. I would play again. Fairways and greens were well maintained for the most part. Course could have used some better Tee boxes( more grass and watered. I hit 13 of the 18 greens and not one green produced a divot. They were like concrete.
I got an excellent deal on Golf Now of $15. You can’t beat that deal.
Good greens
Good greens, but bunkers, tee boxes and fairways are not in good condition. Really good layout, but needs more $ spent on maintenance.
Course needs some maintenance
Greens were great, sand traps & tee boxes were in bad shape, Fairways were average at best..
Tricky, but worth it
This course will challenge your ability with slopes. Overall very solid track, although I had an early tee time so the front nine was hard to gauge with how wet it was. Well maintained and the entire staff was very friendly!
Excellent staff
Took my sister out for 18 on her birthday. She proceeded to lock her keys and clubs in the car! Staff couldn't have been nicer helping out and hooking her up with a set of clubs for her round!
Course was in good shape. Will definitely be back!
Solid
Course was in good shape, greens were fast due to lack of rain but enjoyed it. Some holes are challenging with narrow fairways. Would recommend.
Reynolds Course at Tanglewood
We tees off early to get a jump on the pace. Greens are so much improved! They’re in the best condition I’ve seen there in years. The grounds crew is finally making overdue fixes like replacing the river sand with white sand and that really helps! Punched out of a bunker on #9 easily. There are still some to fix but at least they’re finally fixing them. I guess the county is paying up for deferred maintenance. Regardless, for a public course, you can’t beat the value. The layout requires planning ahead and rewards smart club selection. Try it and see for yourself!
