About

Holes 18
Type Resort
Par 72
Length 6656 yards
Slope 133
Rating 72.0

Skytop Golf Course sprawls across rolling hills set against a backdrop provided by the beautiful Poconos. The course originally opened in 1927. It has a classic design with traditional features including wide fairways, but the trees that line them have matured into quite the challenge. The 6,656-yard length may seem short by modern standards but don't get too comfortable. This mountain golf course features a variety of elevation changes and nowhere is this more apparent than the small greens where the breaks can vary from subtle to dramatic, but they are almost all unexpected. The greens also play lightning fast. Strategically placed bunkers are lurking throughout but thankfully water only comes into play on two holes. Skytop Golf Course offers plenty of scenic respite as well, with panoramic views of West Mountain.

Great views!

The course had some really great views and the pace of play was fast. I got a great deal on golfnow or I never would have played this course.

The course is one of the better that I have played in the pocono area.

This was my second time playing this course. The course was in very good shape and I would recommend annyone in the pocono area. The fact that i was able to play at a reduced rate due to golfnow.com was an added bonus to the overall experience.

Hilly, plays hard. Plays longer than the card.

Go have a day! Get there early to warm up and putt. When lush ball does not roll as much as when dry and the sidehills will sweep your ball from the high side of the fairway to the lower side...allow for the terrain. Small greens, aim for the lowside or the middle. Granular sand traps. Usually a breeze blowing. Weather can change quickly around the mountains.

This course is varied and challenging.

We played late afternoon on a weekday and the conditions were great. I only wish my game was as good. The fairways were pristine as were the greens, and the rough was penal. Some of the fairways slope in one direction or another, and that made holding the fairways tough. A good drive could easily wind up in the rough.

Buy a lawn mower.

Either buy a lawn mower or host a US Open. The rough is ridiculous. Lost (and found) many golf balls in the rough just off the fairways. Ball sits down and you can't see it. Not for the "average" golfer. Takes the fun out of playing when you hit an almost perfect shot and then you can't find your ball.

Nice layout, open fairways, pretty views, fun to play

Although the course was very wet and soft from recent rains, the fairways and greens were in very good condition. The rough was fairly long especially around the greens. It is a fun course to play. Take note it is on a high elevation so it could be windy at times.

Very wet.

Unfortunately, and obviously through no fault of the course management, there was an inordinate amount of rainfall for several days prior to the round I played. Factoring that in, the course played as well as could be expected.

This Course was beautiful.

This course had some amazing holes. Some were challenging and others you had to just step back and enjoy the view. I was very open for being in the mountains and I would play this course again. The workers were friendly and it was an enjoyable place to play.

Great views, classic course

A classic mountain resort course, Skytop challenges everyone sooner or later. The par 3's are long and/or uphill. Hole 9 is a nice par 5 which works well with my natural driving slice. Hole 12 is a tough uphill par 3, go one club more than normal. Hole 17 looks easy, but it's a bit of a slog. Skytop saves the best for last; Hole 18 is a nice challenge. The green is elevated and looks daunting. But a decent drive and a smartly struck six iron should help towards a rewarding par. Overall, a great mountain course.

spectacular views, friendly staff, course was in great condition.

played the course in early May. The course was in great condition, fast greens, fairways and tee boxes were also good. The course has a wide variety of holes that move left, right and straight and require accurate tee shots usually followed by a mid to short iron. The course in general plays short with the exception of the Par 3's which are tough. Most greens are pretty small with lots of movement on them.

The course was empty with very few groups playing behind us. We teed off first at 8am as a twosome and were done in a little over 3hrs.

Course loses a star as most of the Par 4 are a little short. 300-360yds

At $20. a great value. 90 plus should play from foward tees.

A wonderful mountain couse well maintained even early in the season (4/28). Wide fairways but difficult to read greens, wide variety of holes, but slow weekend play due to resort guest hackers. A must for anyone playing golf in the Poconos.

Course was in excellent shape. Look forward to playing it next summer.

I was lucky enough to play this course for a discounted rate this time. I will gladly pay full price next summer when I play it again. Seasonal changes will vary the difficulty and skill required. Greens are small but held well. If you have the misfortune of resting in a green side bunker plan to bounce over the green on your exit. Fairways well manacured. Did not lose a ball because of leaves even though I played in the heart of leaf drop.

Above average course

Course was wet the day we played it due to recent heavy rain. Would like to return and play under better conditions, but would play this course again. It was in decent shape, moderately difficult , decent value for the money.
