Lockwood Folly Country Club

This course was all around very good. Nice range, carts had club and ball cleaner. Cart girl came around which was nice on a hot day. Tees and fairways were very very good. The greens are recovering right now so there are some rough patches on a few of them. But some were still very good. They had top dressed them the day before we played but they were still very playable. Some pretty views. Lots of water provided some difficult shot planning off the tee especially if you’ve never played there before. Loved the par 5’s. Pretty difficult.

I dont like the layout because you dont come back to the club house at the turn. Didnt see the cart girl until hole 9. Hole 10 had 3 groups of 4 playing at one time. Pace on the front 9 was perfect. The back 9 was a polar opposite. The course needs a range to monitor the pace of play.

Not an overly long course, but fairly tight, with trees and/or OB often lining both sides of the fairway; additionally, the course has a decent amount of water, especially on the front nine. Having said that, a reasonably good tee shot generally leaves you in a good position to attack the pins on relatively flat greens, which roll true with little break. I would say this course offers ample birdie opportunities if you’re fairly straight off the tee. Overall, the course is a pretty good value.

Course was in great shape and solid pricing. Greens were in great shape and pace of play as expected. This course has a great finishing hole! I wish more of the course played along the waterway - but overall a solid course at a great value.

Absolutely had a blast. Great course that’s a great layout for the amateur golfer. Fairways and greens are key but if you get in trouble in the right spots then you can still save par. Really enjoyed the day.

Reading the reviews, I got mixed feelings about playing this course. This course was in great shape. The front 9 fairways are a little tight and have dog legs to where you can’t unleash the driver, but this makes the course fun. The back 9 fairways are a little more open, but still have to be in control with the driver. This course was great for me in helping me with my just shots. The saying, “it’s not how you drive, but the way you arrive,” is true, but again, if you’re starting off in the wrong foot, then it can effect the next shots due to confidence/attitude. This course allows you to learn a comfortable, easier swing with allows increases your control. As for the greens, they were quick. You could tell they had been aerated a few weeks ago, but it didn’t effect your putting at all. This course was a change of pace course for me which I really enjoyed. Looking forward to playing it again.

Had early tee time because we had a 75 year old with us. We were trying to beat the heat. Snack bar wasn’t open at 8:00 when we were scheduled to tee off but were promised the cart girl would be around to take care of us. We finally saw her on the 16th hole. By then we were all patched and worn out and ready to leave. Loved the course the first time I played it but today was just so so. Also, mowing fairways and greens and had a couple of workers not willing to move out of the way for you to play through.

Overall, course was in poor shape. I recognize we had a lot of rain previous few days. The fairways were nice but greens and bunkers sub-par. Greens were cut inconsistent, some areas rolling good with areas of shaggy spots. I realize course cost less than some but was disappointed.

Good layout, a challenge from any tee. Downside lots of houses and out of bounds.

Played as a single last weekend. Pro shop staff and stgarter were friendly. Course layout was fun and required some strategy, especially off the tee. Water / hazards prevent you from wailing on driver all day. Also, be prepared to hit all your clubs. Greens were recently aerated but are mostly recovered. Course overall was pretty lush with a few thin spots on some fairways. A few nice views of the waterway/river on some holes. It'll definitely stay in my beach course rotation.

Been coming to Holden Beach my whole life but finally played Lockwood for the first time this weekend. Fun layout that demands strategy - water and hazards dictate most of your tee shots and many don't allow for driver. I appreciate courses that makes me hit most/all of my clubs. Greens were recently aerated but were mostly recovered. Course was pretty lush overall, with a few thin spots on fairways. Pro shop staff and starter were friendly. Carts were pretty new, as well. I'll definitely be back.

Conditions were good. Greens had been aerated couple weeks ago but played fair overall. Lots of water and sand hazards. Most mistakes you make will cost you a shot. Good layout. Plenty of tee options so just be smart and pick the set of tees fit to your ability.
