Lockwood Folly Country Club

About
Lockwood Folly Country Club is a superbly conditioned, semi-private, member owned "hidden gem". The course is located at the confluence of the Intracoastal Waterway and the Lockwood Folly River, providing golfers with breathtaking vistas of tidal estuary, moss covered hard- woods and the solitude of nature. Tree lined, nonparallel fairways winding through hardwoods and pine afford a sense of seclusion while challanged with championship golf.

Course Layout
overall experience was good, Great views from clubhouse, unfortunately course does not play along water. Greens were slow, fairways were in good shape and some tee boxes were roughed up
Unfortunate
First time playing here and left with a sour taste in my mouth. My friend and I had a 7:30 tee time and were the first group off on Saturday morning and were paired with another twosome. Everything was awesome until we finished on 9 and went to turn to 10, which we did right at 9:30. We played in exactly 2 hours. As we pulled up to 10 there was 4 groups waiting to tee off. The starter who stated he was new said this is what they do here on Saturdays and they stagger tee times, which is normal and I completely understand that. However to stagger tee times to o long so your first groups off turn and have to wait 30-45 mins to keep playing golf is ridiculous and unacceptable. A local or homeowner or member came up and said to us “ this is what we do on Saturdays”….. I’m extremely disappointed that this is what happened to us and we made the decision to leave and go home. The pro shop gave us a rain check for 9 holes each but do not feel like that is satisfactory given the inconvenience this caused. I’ve never in my life came across a situation like this and to have people defend it as it’s normal. Whatever it’s worth to anyone reading this it’s just another course in the area that has phenomenal greenskeepers and superintendents and a bad golf staff.
Pace of play
Group in front of us was playing 2 balls off tee, looking for balls and waiting for players to clear par fours green before teeing off. Ranger stopped by and spoke to us and indicated the group ahead was about a hole and a half behind schedule with no one holding them up. This pace of play was frustrating even for average golfers. But to do nothing to increase the pace was even more frustrating. Great course and restaurant staff were excellent.
Fun Golf Course
I played this course many, many years ago and liked it a lot back then. It is just as good now. Would highly recommend.
Recommended!!!
Great course awesome staff love to play again definitely no problem with any of the greens or fairways was a amazing experience the rough was even kept up great. lots of wildlife from birds to aligators off a tee box or a green. even played two holes with deer watching me play great experience recommended to anyone high or low handicap won't feel rushed by staff or players
Lockwood
staff has changed, not very friendly, prices have increased. not favorable to those who are parttime residents. Just because they are the only course in Holden beach, worth going a few miles up the road plenty opition around Ocean Isle.
Very nice!
This was my first time playing LF. I took my 2 sons and we had a great time. The general consensus was that we’d definitely play here again. The pro shop staff was a pleasure to talk with and even the drink cart girl was very pleasant as well. Overall, A+.
Great pace of pmay
Three of us played Lockwood Folly about 2 week’s ago. We were the last group off just before noon. They were doing maintenance in the pm. Fairways were in great shape as well as most of the greens. A few thin spots on a few perimeters but it didn’t affect play. Some of the tee boxes could use some attention though. Overall I would rate the course 4.5. Pro shop staff and the starter were friendly and welcoming. You should have a good time playing the course.
Interesting course with some challenging holes.
Lockwood Folly is an enjoyable golfing experience. A number of holes demand accuracy off the tee as well as on approach shots. There are a number of dog legs to deal with that require definite accuracy off the tee. A driver is not always smart to use. Also the par fives are well guarded off the tee and on approach shots.
The course was in good condition.
Lockwood Folly is a welcoming course. Those that provide service are positive and very personable.
Fantastic
Great value. Great conditions. Will happily play here again and again
After the rain
We had to wait for a thunderstorm to pass which helped thin out the number of golfers. The course was in very good shape with only a few thin spots on the greens. Traps were wet, as expected, but in overall good shape. The starter was friendly and explained flag location and which holes were cart path only due to the rain. We are headed back in a day and expect the same conditions. You should enjoy this course, the grounds around the course add to the atmosphere.
