About
Designed by Clyde Johnston and popular PGA Tour star Fuzzy Zoeller, the Island West Golf Club is a course built around natural marshland and follows the landscape presenting a rolling, tree-lined course.
As one would imagine a course with Zoeller's fingerprints, Island West in Bluffton was built to be a fun, entertaining play, and has succeeded in its mission. Playing to 6,803 with a 129 slope rating from the tips, it's a solid test for the skillful yet playable for the not-so skillful.
Water comes in to play on 10 holes here, so the bold will have many risk-reward opportunities. Accuracy off the tee is a must on many of the tree-lined holes, yet other holes feature wide fairways. Island West is exactly the type of course you'd imagine Zoeller being a part of, but Johnston's expertise also shines through.

We have played here on occasions for more than twenty years . Course conditions are a little rough .
Great layout and good memories.
Not so hood
There was nothing special about this course. Not one hole did I say to myself this is really pretty or this is a good hole. Fairways were narrow, tee boxes were dirt and some of the greens in bad shape. Will not play here again
I enjoyed the round, Good value. Some fairway grass was marginal, but it is just coming out of winter.
Nice Course
Enjoyed playing here. Challenging for me but was a joy. No two holes the same. I played alone and first time I played the course so there were some surprises but that's to be expected. I thought it was a great course and value. The fairways were thin on grass but the time of year and weather were the culprits for that.
Great Value
Staff was friendly and we were able to tee off off 1/2 hour early.
Tee boxes were in poor shape, not much grass to hit off of. Greens were dyed but rolled well.
Fairways were probably the best overall of the courses we played here.
Course is fair and can be scored - did not seem to have as many sand traps as other courses around HHI.
Speed of play was excellent - 18 in just under 4 hours.
Great job guys and gals I’ll be back
All of the courses took a beating last summer but they have been working hard and it shows I will be back and I will bring my buddies

Interesting course, in good condition & very friendly helpful staff. Very nice, well stocked club house with food service. Will definitely golf here again!
Fall from grace
Played IW first time in 7 years to honour Fuzzy; the course has deteriorated since my last visit.
Patchy greens, fairways were spotty, and tee decks chewed up.
Got a special deal but wouldn’t pay full price to play it.
Shame, as it is a decent routing with good shot value.
Course Conditions not good
There was no one playing when we got there, which is a good thing as we had the course to ourselves most of the time. The course was very wet, but it had recently rained. The Tee boxes were not in good shape at all with sod just planted and a lot of weeds. The Fairways were very wet and didn't drain well at all. The green were not cut and a lot of weeds were growing.
Island West is probably in the worst condition of any course in the area.
Island West is probably in the worst condition of any course in the area. Good layout but it looks like they just mow with junk equipment if at all. I understand that they are trying to make it better but it’s a log way off.
