About
Designed by Clyde Johnston and popular PGA Tour star Fuzzy Zoeller, the Island West Golf Club is a course built around natural marshland and follows the landscape presenting a rolling, tree-lined course.
As one would imagine a course with Zoeller's fingerprints, Island West in Bluffton was built to be a fun, entertaining play, and has succeeded in its mission. Playing to 6,803 with a 129 slope rating from the tips, it's a solid test for the skillful yet playable for the not-so skillful.
Water comes in to play on 10 holes here, so the bold will have many risk-reward opportunities. Accuracy off the tee is a must on many of the tree-lined holes, yet other holes feature wide fairways. Island West is exactly the type of course you'd imagine Zoeller being a part of, but Johnston's expertise also shines through.

Nice
I had to wright this review because I read a few prior reviews complaining about the green conditions. The green were in great shape, in fact the greens were in better shape then the more expensive courses in the area. Overall the course was in great shape. I can't comment about the pace of play, I played in the late afternoon so I had the course to myself.
Great Deal
Had a good day at Island West. Greens were pretty good and fairways were well groomed. My only complaint would be that the grounds crew does not pay attention to golfers. I teed off just before 12 and ran into them on several fairways. I had to wait as long as five minutes before they would move to the side so I could play. Otherwise, it was a great deal and a solid course.
Greens
Very average course, greens where very rough, and no cart girl to get drinks. Don't pay more than $25 for nine holes.
Long day
Play seemed to very slow. Liked the course but left at 8th hole. Could not deal with pace of play.
Rought greens
The greens were rought . No body was checking the speed of golf. Fairways were good. I like the course.
Good course sloooow play
Course was in good condition, the only problem was they had no ranger and it took us almost 5 hours to play. Does not make for a good time.
Very Nice Course!
Nice layout, I played the whites while my 19 and 22 yr old played the blues very challenging but room for error. Greens were firm and accurate but you were able to told the approach shot. Fairways in nice shape. We played 3 weeks after it was air rated. Sand traps were well maintained with lots of rakes I used them several times. Yardage markers were accurate. Drinking water on a hot day was well placed it was 87 when we played but there was always a breeze. Little drive about 25 minutes from Coligny plaza. I would differently play it again. Staff is friendly and helpful .
Great course, especially for the money.
Course was in good shape. Greens had a fertilizer or slight green tint to them. A few tee boxes were a little hairy on some and a little splotchity on other tee boxes. Fairways were good. Staff was friendly. No one in front and no one behind us. Fairways fairly wide.
Great course
Was able to have a great day except for the fact that they had worked on the greens very slow ., other than that it was great ;)
good value
We have played gere before. Best condition in a long time. Paid only $20 and didn't expect it to be in good shape, but it was. Great value.
Good Value
Shaggy condition, especially the bunkers. Good layout & variety of hole styles. Overall good value in $$ paid vs other area courses. Would play again at same price.
The course was a great value
Course had aerated greens early in the week .We were notified and they were still very playable .Not as plush fairways as last time I played although, they were excerable in most areas .Enjoyed the couple we were paired with .
Course in awesome shape!
I generally score well here. If you hit fairways then you will have no issue. A few narrow fairways with a few open fairways make it fun round. Tough but good pin placements. Greens are in excellent shape. Fairways were nice. Rough is challenging but in good shape. Cart staff is super friendly.
Very good course for the average golfer
The course was in very good shape. Tee boxes were a tad thin but the greens and fairways were very playable. The sand bunkers were not in good shape, not enough sand and they were compacted. This is a very good course for the average golfer. There are many challenging holes but allowed for the occassional miss hit. I would recommend it and look forward to playing itr again soon.

The course was very enjoyable. We did have some difficulty navigating to the the next tee at times.

Great course . Very playable. They need bathrooms on the course instead of porta potties.
Good course, great value
This is the second time in a few years I have played this course. The staff is always friendly. The course is always in pretty good shape. Even though it is not very long, It is fairly challenging. The pace of play was good though a little rushed. The quality of the course for the price makes this an excellent value for Hilton Head. This is a great course to consider for your play due to the condition, location and value.
Some long challenging holes for a senior golfer......
Will play this course again.........it's on my list of TO PLAY EACH YEAR.....
