About
Designed by Clyde Johnston and popular PGA Tour star Fuzzy Zoeller, the Island West Golf Club is a course built around natural marshland and follows the landscape presenting a rolling, tree-lined course.
As one would imagine a course with Zoeller's fingerprints, Island West in Bluffton was built to be a fun, entertaining play, and has succeeded in its mission. Playing to 6,803 with a 129 slope rating from the tips, it's a solid test for the skillful yet playable for the not-so skillful.
Water comes in to play on 10 holes here, so the bold will have many risk-reward opportunities. Accuracy off the tee is a must on many of the tree-lined holes, yet other holes feature wide fairways. Island West is exactly the type of course you'd imagine Zoeller being a part of, but Johnston's expertise also shines through.

The course was a great value
Course had aerated greens early in the week .We were notified and they were still very playable .Not as plush fairways as last time I played although, they were excerable in most areas .Enjoyed the couple we were paired with .
Course in awesome shape!
I generally score well here. If you hit fairways then you will have no issue. A few narrow fairways with a few open fairways make it fun round. Tough but good pin placements. Greens are in excellent shape. Fairways were nice. Rough is challenging but in good shape. Cart staff is super friendly.
Very good course for the average golfer
The course was in very good shape. Tee boxes were a tad thin but the greens and fairways were very playable. The sand bunkers were not in good shape, not enough sand and they were compacted. This is a very good course for the average golfer. There are many challenging holes but allowed for the occassional miss hit. I would recommend it and look forward to playing itr again soon.

The course was very enjoyable. We did have some difficulty navigating to the the next tee at times.

Great course . Very playable. They need bathrooms on the course instead of porta potties.
Good course, great value
This is the second time in a few years I have played this course. The staff is always friendly. The course is always in pretty good shape. Even though it is not very long, It is fairly challenging. The pace of play was good though a little rushed. The quality of the course for the price makes this an excellent value for Hilton Head. This is a great course to consider for your play due to the condition, location and value.
Some long challenging holes for a senior golfer......
Will play this course again.........it's on my list of TO PLAY EACH YEAR.....

The price is not valve for this course. The bunkers is so dark and the grass nô good to play.
Interesting Layout
Threat of rain kept players away, so I played in under 3 hours. Some holes were a little tricky as what appeared to be a good line could put you in trouble. A little course knowledge would help you score better the next time you play.
Greens were slower than other courses I played and conditions were fine, but not great. Overall the course was a good value.
Fun layout in good condition
I have played here a couple of times previously and enjoyed the course on those occasions also. Not overly long but still challenging enough. Very good condition.

Great value for vacationers
Only a 25 minute drive from Hilton Head Island. Best golf value in the area. Greens were excellent and fairways great. Will play there again when on vavation.
Very enjoyable
I was pleasantly surprised at the conditioning and variety if the holes at Island West! Greens were great and my son and I who are low handicapers found the course challanging and fun from the blue tees. We will return soon.

The course was in great shape considering it rained all day the day before. Greens were a bit slower than usual but true. was paired up with 3 other players had a good time!! I will return!
Great value for the money
Staff wonderful. Left my major clubs & shoes in another golf bag at home (Michigan) & staff was generous to lend me a driver & putter.
Good value for costs
This is a fairly interesting course/has character and is definitely worth playing for the cost. A great course to play last day of vacation when headed back from HH given it is 10 miles or so of the island

Nice layout for development track course!
I liked the layout and the variety of hole designs on this course. There are several blind shots from the tee into unseen hazards that you have to know about - so when I play it again I will be better prepared. The course could use a little TLC particularly what they call sand bunkers. Overall a very good value and I'll be back. Great staff - friendly and helpful!
Good value. Nice course.
Rain the night before left a wet course with several cart path only holes. Course was in excellent condition. Staff friendly and helpful. Would play again ... on a dryer day.
