About
Rose Hill Golf Club in Bluffton is situated amongst plentiful live oaks draped with Spanish moss. There are also sparkling, crystal-clear lakes that come into play on several holes. The golf course is a part of Rose Hill Plantation, giving it a truly Southern look and feel. Most of the holes are flat and straightforward but there are a few tricky doglegs to keep the course interesting. The layout features formidable par 3s that will test even the best players and a notably difficult par 5 that measures just over 600 yards. The challenging holes are balanced with player-friendly features that make it versatile enough for a wide range of skill levels. Four sets of tees, the longest coming to just over 6,900 yards, make Rose Hill Golf Club even more accessible.

Hallmark is gone.
Hallmark management is gone and IGM is in charge. I have seen more being done here than I have seen in three months. IMG is group that under stands agronomy which Hallark had no clue. It may take some time to fix Hallmarks mistakes but we are on our way.
Beautiful layout - course in bad shape
A beautiful layout with Spanish Moss lined trees all over. Nice water holes. However, very poor maintenance. Roughs were wet and very long, fairways were soaked, but the worst part were the greens which were a mix of bermuda and crabgrass. Also mowed very long. With some care this could be a beautiful course.
A lot to be desired
Course was in pretty bad shape. Greens were like putting on shaggy carpet with the added benefit of sections of each green that were comparable to being in the rough. While the Hit Deal of $39.99 a person for a 9 am round made it less painful, knowing how bad the condition of the course was in advance would have been nice. Very disappointing

Rose hill conditions
In was poor 20 years ago. It is in terrible shape now. Crabgrass on greens. Grass in bunkers. It was just cut for first time in a while. Minds of grass everywhere

The greens are in terrible shape.
The grass was primarily Bermuda but there was also a lot of long stemmed grass on the green. Not sure what the long stemmed grass was but it was abundant and it interfered with putting. The greens were also quite slow.
In addition, there was grass growing in the bunkers and that made it apparent that the maintenance of the course was severely lacking.
It was unfortunate because this course has a lot of potential to be a really nice golf course. Our group of three were disappointed.

Worst Experience
I have been coming to Hilton Head for over 25 years. This by far has been the worst golf experience I have ever had. Greens were not mown, had large patches of invasive grasses left at 1-inch height on greens and there was no way one could get.a reasonable read on speed and direction. Fairways were full of thatch, and left at 3-4 inch heights leaving any good shots down the fairway unrewarded in terms of lie. When we reached the turn at the clubhouse, we stopped for a snack and a drink, it was very hot. Not only was there no snack bar, there were no cold drink to be had anywhere around the clubhouse. We check in to pro shop to see if they had cold drinks, they had nothing. While there, I complained to the person working the proshop, couldn't have been a pro, no self respecting golf pro would allow their course to be that bad. He blamed it on transitioning to new management. That is a terrible excuse for poor maintenance. You might think. they would offer some degree of refund back on the greens fees, but he did not. I feel he should have warned us of the course conditions and let us be aware and determine if we would play or move on. vs. discovering all this as we experienced the course.
We also discovered that although water coolers were setup around the course, not a single one had water if anyone was getting sun issues.

Course is Dying
Crabgrass everywhere on the fairways and on the greens! Course needs to be dug up and started over. Rough was at least a foot high on some holes. Employee was looking forward to new management soon.

COURSE IN “HORRIBLE” CONDITION
I have played this course occasionally over the past 15 years and I have never seen it in such terrible condition. Playing it no longer feels like golf…Much grass growing all over every green…First cut of grass is 5” high.
I have never seen a course in such bad condition that wasn’t closed…So sad!

Neglected condition?
Roughs not mowed for some time. Fairways not In good condition. Greens need more attention as well. Wouldnt pay more than $40 to play here.

Disappointed
The roughs are 8-12 deep of grass and the weeds around all bodies of water are about 4 feet tall. The back holes 15, 16, 17. And 18 barely get mowed.
The greens have this strange weed growing in them so putts zig zag towards the hole. Terrible

Not sure if this course is on its way up or down
Played a nearby course two days ago and it was in terrible condition: large weeds in sandless "sand traps", portions of fairways unmowed and over taken by weeds, and greens and tees which were like a poorly mantained home lawn. One of my playing parnters said that Rose Hill was even worse, so I became concerned as I already had booked a "hot deal" which couldn't be cancelled.
Rpse Hill, however, was in much better shape and could be brought back by proper turf management: eliminate weeds, over seed fairways, add sand to traps, and institute a consistent mowing and grooming program.
Currently the course is "playable" but it could quickly deteriorate if management doesn't work to make improvements. I am not sure how Plantations give up their golf programs, but this HOA/POA seems to be at a crossroad.

Never Again
Worse golf course I think I’ve ever played upon. We’ve been going to HHI for 24 yrs, never had an experience like this one. Not making this review to give Rose Hill grief, just trying to prevent others from making same mistake we made.

Terrible
This course is without a doubt the worse course I have ever played. Greens were 1” high in places and bumpy as crap. If I had to play a course like this again I would quit golf.

Good layout and challenge, but lacking maintenance
This course has potential because of a good layout and challenging holes, however it was drastically lacking maintenance, with weeds and flooding of traps, uncut grass with many weeds and areas where the grass had been cut but since it was so long, clumps of cut turf littered the fairways making it near impossible to find balls that had been hit in the fairway. Back nine was in better shape than the front 9. Address the maintenance issues and this would be a very nice course.

Not so 'Rose'y . . .
We've played Rose Hill a few times and up until yesterday always enjoyed the course but, you should avoid this course for the next 30-60 days, it's a train wreck.
Some kind of issue with the course maintenance crew so only maybe 6 of all of the tee boxes were cut, over growth EVERYWHERE, rough was nasty, weeds growing all over the place and the topper for all of this were the bunkers . . . #9 . . . right by the clubhouse . . . the bunkers have been full of water for so long that there are algae pods growing in one, and I swear there are frogs and tadpoles swimming in the other. It's horrible.
Example: I hit a hyrbid from the fairway on a par 5 maybe 200 yards and slightly right, maybe 2 yards to the right of the fairway around 60 yards from the green . . . LOST ball. We spent 3-4 minutes walking all over the rough staring down at the point where the ball went in, nope, lost ball. Just impossible to enjoy the round.
If the course was $10-15 - sure, give it a go but, save your money and go to another course in the area until they figure out what is going on here.

Pay a little more to play at another golf course…. It is worth it.
Love love that’s what this golf course is missing. The grass is not well maintained and the greens are super long, slow and in poor conditions and so is the same with tee off.

This might the worst condition course I have ever played. I would play it again for $10 if it came with free lunch.
