The Windermere Club

About
Located just outside of Columbia, The Windermere Club sits along the banks of the lake that it takes its name from. Pete Dye designed the golf course, crafting a number of memorable holes. It's his only design in the Midlands. No two holes are alike on this challenging layout, so expect to use every club in your bag. The golf course offers a variety of risk-reward opportunities that will appeal to both low and high handicappers. There are also five, and sometimes six, tee boxes on every hole, making the golf course even more appealing for any skill level. The fairways are generous but lined with mature hardwoods and there are strategically placed bunkers to contend with. Golfers at The Windemere Club will also encounter subtle but tricky elevation changes and several lakes and ponds.

Geee
Had great time course fair. Would have helped to know course better. Next time will know hazards
Will be coming back
Nice coarse, but needs a lot of work.
This coarse looked awesome. The layout is great. There were glimpses of Windamere in what was its previous glory. It is set up to be a really awesome coarse. I hope the owner and staff can restore it to what it likely was at one time. The layout was challenging and fun. The greens were small, difficult to hit in regulation, and challenging. The cart paths were in extremely poor condition. It had rained a lot recently, so fairways were holding water. Bunkers were full of water and not draining. Weeds were all over in what looked like formerly pristine fairways and rough. There were maintenance crews on a lot of holes working hard to get the course looking better. I hope they succeed, because the course could be great.
Nice course
Play here for the first time the other day. Interesting layout of a course. Hag a group of 4 in front of us( 2 golfers) they where in no hurry and never offered for us to play through. Greens where really quick on the front and quite the opposite on the back. Had a few areas that the ground was extremely marshy. The staff was very friendly and helpful fr9m the pro shop to the bar area. Will go again when I can.
Pretty good day
I hadn’t played here before so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Driving range was closed so that made the start a bit rough. Fairways were in good shape as well as the greens on the front 9. Tee boxes were better on the front as well. Loved the layout and the distances, I played from the blue tees. A lot of water hazards which really makes you focus. Despite light rain the day before the course was pretty wet. Cart paths are terrible. But overall a good day and I will be back.
Nice layout. They need some grass on the fairways.
Nice layout, but the fairways lacked grass. One of our 2 carts almost didn’t make it to the end. Had to push it up a couple of hills.
Great views
The course layout takes you over hills. valleys and around lakes. verry pretty. It was spring conditions when we played, so the fairways were not very lush. The green were good and the views were terrific.
Aged Beauty
What looks like once was an excellent club has fallen on hard times. Maintenance is an issue, one of many. I wish them better days.
Greenskeepers revenge?
My third time in the past couple months. The people working the desk were rude which is not normal. The greens are in great shape but the number of pins in inappropriate positions made it a frustrating day . Pins 5/6 feet from the edge of greens and cut in the middle of hills some cups were cracked and not put in properly the edges were visible on many holes. This is not normally the case here, I don’t know who set up the pins today but they were clearly not trying to let players enjoy themselves. Unless you like putting to pins in the middle of a slope maybe take a few days somewhere else
Seen better days
Windermere used to be a good course . Never a great course but a good course . Now it is in terrible shape . It is listed here as a private course but anyone can play there just go there and play .
It is a Pete Dye course and that is the only thing that keeps it somewhat relevant . I will not play there again until the course is sold to someone who can put some money in it and make it good again . I saw where Golf Digest had it listed in there top 70 courses in SC . No way ! Golf Digest was either paid for that rating as they surely never played the course . I would rate this course in the bottom courses in the Midlands area . Sadly even Pete Dye could not save this course
Great staff and beautiful views
The staff was super friendly and helpful when it came to problem solving on the course!
