The Windermere Club
About
Located just outside of Columbia, The Windermere Club sits along the banks of the lake that it takes its name from. Pete Dye designed the golf course, crafting a number of memorable holes. It's his only design in the Midlands. No two holes are alike on this challenging layout, so expect to use every club in your bag. The golf course offers a variety of risk-reward opportunities that will appeal to both low and high handicappers. There are also five, and sometimes six, tee boxes on every hole, making the golf course even more appealing for any skill level. The fairways are generous but lined with mature hardwoods and there are strategically placed bunkers to contend with. Golfers at The Windemere Club will also encounter subtle but tricky elevation changes and several lakes and ponds.

Wonderful Round at The Windermere
Great day for 18 at Windermere. Course layout and challenges are some of the best I've played locally. Water and Sand abound. Challenging, but fun. Course is in progress of repairs to some areas such as tee boxes and greens. Weekday play for $30, have played similar nearby for a few dollars less. Can't wait to play again.
Best disign golf course
Love the layout, greens in excellent shape fairways improving, I would say in fair shape, nice facility, friendly staff, sand traps and golf cart path needs work
What a great comeback!
This course has been my favorite layout in the area for years. I stopped playing with the bent grass greens in terrible condition. The greens have been redone and are now in excellent shape. Except for a couple of rough spots on the course it is now in near perfect condition.
Terrible greens
This course has terrible greens with bald spots and they do not break at ALL! Good luck if you get stuck behind someone because the Marshal will probably be in the club house instead of riding around checking on play.
The best layout in Columbia with course condition issues
I play here about once a week and I've played nearly every course in Columbia. The course itself is designed well and playing from the back tees makes this course feel really long. The past two weeks I've played there, the conditions of the greens continue to improve--although they're a little slow. The biggest issue I have with the course is something another reviewer mentioned: the rough doesn't seem to ever get cut. There's a difference between U.S. Open style rough that is maintained and rough the just isn't maintained. Windermere's rough isn't maintained, making it often hard to find golf balls, which slows down play for golfers. If the rough was cut, this golf course could improve greatly. The par 3 9th hole is a perfect example of a well-designed hole that looks like it never gets cut. The prices for nine holes could also be lower. All in all, if a golfer can past the actual course conditions, they'll be able to play a course that is challenging and well-designed but poorly maintained. The course also should add more signage for directions.
Almost great
This layout is one of the best I have ever played. Something new and challenging every hole. Plenty of risk reward. Layout, greens, staff, carts were all great. The bunkers needed a lot of work. Grass growing in bunkers that were green side. The rough has not been cut in God knows when. For the location I was expecting something in a lot better condition. We came in from out of town with some friends and were hoping for a little better conditions. Still had a great time just wish I could see this course in little better shape.
Fun but confusing
Went into this course for the first time having played a handful of nearby courses previously. As a first time I was disappointed the score card didn’t have a layout of the course for each hole, furthermore the tee placards also didn’t advertise the hole. Leaves you feeling like you’re flying blind out there on some holes. The cart paths could also use some work, very rough and not really laid out too well around some holes. Lastly, the rough is pretty high&thick, if you’re not in the fairway you may find yourself in a very tough spot. One thing I did appreciate was the 150yd posts at each fairway, really helped gauge the distances. The course overall is nice and is fun to play.
Gets better and better
The greens are in the best shape ever. The tee boxes are in the best shape. The fairways are good. Now, If only people respected the course rules.and avoided driving straight on the fairway instead of on the sides. The most challenging layout in Columbia.
Back in very good condition
This course is the best, beautiful and challenging layout in Columbia, SC. It would benefit from some TLC and strict rules yet is unable to do so maybe due to the Neighbours who don’t want to pay more. If they had a fixed fee for weekdays of $25 per person and weekends of $35 per person, they would get a steady stream of folks which would help them make the course top notch.
Great semi private course
The course was in great shape and the layout was good. Several really pretty holes next to water. The pace of play was super slow but the course was just packed.
Who canceled my tee time ?
Who cancelled my tee time for June 27 at 10:10, I didn’t
Not disappointed
This was the second time playing the course. I took a friend with me who was playing the course for the first time.
The course was in beautiful condition. The fairways were lush and produced very good lies. The greens were smooth and true, but a little slower than expected. A few of the tee boxes were getting bare.
I have the same complaint as from my first round here. There are no hole descriptions on the scorecard or on the tee boxes. You have to get a yardage book from the pro shop or use a golf app on your phone The most annoying , and frankly the easiest fix, is that all the flags on the green are white. NO WAY TO TELL IF PIN IS FRONT, BACK, OR MIDDLE! .
A course should provide a player wi Rh all the information need to play iit without the need for a book or laser.
Good Times
This course is amazing. I really enjoy the layout and design for the course. It can be challenging, but it makes you think about shot placements.
Love this place
Course is in good shape. Some of the greens have a few dead spots but doesn't affect much unless you have to put over it. The spots are on the edges of greens that have them. Bunkers aren't good, several filled with water and other just need sand. Other than those few things the course is great. Fun layout.
They have a sign asking you to ride 2 per person per cart, hopefully they relax this a bit since Covid cases in SC are rising rapidly.
This course is challenging and fun at play!!! It is a very beautiful course! I will definitely be back!
