Timberlake Country Club
About
Timberlake Country Club in Chapin sits on the shores of Lake Murray, just outside of Columbia in the Midlands of South Carolina. The classic design is reminiscent of traditional Scottish links courses, featuring a combination of water and pot bunkers as well as large grassy swales. The golf course sprawls across rolling hills, which provide plenty of contours and elevation changes. From the elevated tees, golfers will have a dramatic view of the rugged landscape. The golf course is mostly open though there are a few stands of mature trees that can be troublesome if you're not careful. The cavernous bunkers and carefully molded mounding present formidable challenges that will test even the best golfers. In addition to the golf course, Timberlake also offers a full driving range and practice green as well as tennis courts and an Olympic-sized swimming pool.

What a Difference a Year Makes
Timberlake
So where to start? I called the day before find out that the best deal is to use golf pass for the hot deal the next day. So I did. Booked the Hot Deal at 11am for my son and myself
I asked if we would be able to use the driving renge, which I sort of knew the answer to because I played there last year when I was staying with my parents not too far away (about 45 min drive). Was told yes we would.
I had pretty good feelings about the course from last year, so I was looking forward to taking (adult) son to the course.
So we get there and first of all it was like a youth camp going on outside at the driving range. The guy at the shop told me I could go to the other end of the driving range and hit back towards the front. OK fine. We load up the cart & drive to the other end. We get there and there’s a pro giving several ladies a lesson. We go to the far end Away from where the lessons were going on. The pro comes over and says you can’t hit here. I say the guy in the pro shop sent me here. The guy grumbles and says follow me as he hopped into his cart and heads back down the range toward the clubhouse - my son and I look at each other and say I guess we’re supposed to follow. So we do.
We get back to the range in front of the pro shop, which is located right in front of the clubhouse. Start to get our clubs to go to that range and the guy in charge of whatever comes out, waves his arm and says, emphatically, the range is closed.
Huh?
Anyway, we are graciously allowed on the putting green where we put for 30 minutes before Someone comes over and says you can go and hit a few balls now. Which we do quickly for about 10 minutes before our tee time.
Not a great start. The course was OK in terms of condition. Bunkers really were not very good at all - generally worse than I remembered from last year.
Needless to say, I won’t be going back there again.
One of my Favorites
Absolutely LOVE this course, and want to so badly give it 5 stars across the Board....but....the sand traps are horrendous!!!Tees, greens, fairways, layout, cart paths, staff, amenities....everything at TCC is phenomenal....except the bunkers!!! I understand that after rains bunkers will be compacted & need to be raked....but, in most cases there is just no sand there to rake...its basically clay/dirt mud. When finding any of the many deep green side bunkers, it is almost impossible to get out,,,,,just not how the game was meant to be played. Other than that, this course is exceptional. Not just the normal back & forth holes, but really a lot of character to this track. I know over the last couple years they've redid greens & paths.....hopefully replenishing the bunkers is next!!! Without a doubt, one of the nicest & most demanding layouts in the area. Staff is always super friendly, and a nice bar area (for non members) to enjoy after the round. !st class facility all around!!!
Great lakeside course
The course is apparently in the best shape it has been in years. I was paired with two members and would consider this the 2nd nicest course in the greater Columbia area. I wouldn’t pay more than $70-75 to play here but I would jump at the chance for a hot deal.
It's come a long way
I last played this course 4 years ago and it was absolutely horrible. I heard they improved the course, so I thought I would go play it again. It was LEAPS and BOUNDS better, so kudos to the staff for getting it in better shape, though I think the price is still a bit steep.
Sunday
The course is in great shape and they have a lot of amenities. The only terrible part was the pace of play. I was playing by myself and got stuck behind an ignorant group of 4 and they would not let me pass. Took me an hour longer than it should have. Overall though great place to golf
Wonderful
Highly recommend playing this course. Only problem is golf now don’t have access to their timesheet so they weren’t aware of our booking . They managed to squeeze us in with a member
Chapin Gem
For under 100 bucks, this place was great. Very challenging greens. They were in the masters state of mind when they made this place. Very beautiful.
A Great Layout!
I’m a Member but the transformation of the Course has been remarkable since the Membership bought the Golf Course. It’s really worth playing even during the winter months. All 18 greens have been redone with Tiff Eagle and they have turned out great.
Challenging Course with consistent Greens
First off, My Grade on the course conditions were no reflection on the physical condition of the course, but rather a reference to the miserable weather during my play and the 48hrs leading up to my round. the course was waterlogged. to be fair any course would be after 72 hours and 4 to 6 inches of rain.
I would rate this course very well above average.
Staff was very friendly and accommodating.
I will return to this course often as I can
Outstanding!!
Haven't played here in 2 years due to conditions deteriorating & then the required repairs. Well, it was worth the wait!!! From tee to green, simply marvelous conditions, especially for this time of year. About only negatives, greens are very hard, and hard to hold except using a wedge with a lot of spin/bite, and a few sand traps could have used a tad more sand..... otherwise, pristine conditions. I imagine after a winter of rains, greens should soften up & be a bit more receptive. A GREAT layout, (with almost all new cart paths as well) that most occasional golfers will find difficult, but for advanced players, a real treat. New carts with awesome GPS. Definitely have to manage the course to score well. Greens are slick as snot, but roll really true!!! A phenomenal golf course & a beautiful facility. At just over 6000 yards from the Blues, this course can kick some serious butt!! Play it if you can!!
Awesome!
The course was amazing! Beautiful layout and challenging. Alot of blind tee shots. Staff was great and the facilities were immaculate. Will try to play there every time I'm in SC.
