Village Greens Golf & Country Club
About
Village Greens Golf Club sprawls across over 100 acres of what used to be farmland situated between Inman and Gramling. Remnants of the old farm can be seen throughout the course, including pear trees from the original orchard that line the 10th fairway. When the golf course was built in 1969, many new trees were planted but much care was taken so as not to obstruct the view of the Blue Ridge Mountains, providing nearly every hole with views that stretch from Glassy Mountain to Chimney Rock. The layout has a classic design that is playable for a wide range of skill levels. Sparkling lakes and ponds accent the landscape, coming into play on a few holes. Village Greens Golf Club's most memorable water hole is the course's signature sixth. This short par 3 features a semi-island green that is surrounded by water on two sides, along with three bunkers and out-of-bounds on the right.

Greens are rolling very good. Overall in good shape now.
Good Local Course
Played Village Greens for about the 3rd or 4th time on good Friday. Course is in decent shape for the time of year. Grass is starting to come in on fairways, greens, and tees. But its thin, and it has been pretty dry so fairways were relatively hard pan. You got a few thin lies here and there. Greens were ok. I thought the putting green was much faster than the greens on the course, and I struggled to consistently get the speed right the entire round. But they rolled fine. The pace of play on the front was about right. 2 hours or maybe just a hair under isnt bad at all on a busy holiday. However, on the back we hit a brick wall about hole 12. It was a long wait on every shot. The back took about an 2 hours and 45 minutes, and we were ready for it to be over by the time we got done. The course has an interesting layout of holes, a few that some might classify as goofy golf. But overall, it unique, interesting and fun.
Hole 1 is a shot sharp dogleg right par 5. It you are a long hitter you dont want to hit driver here unless you are willing to take it over the trees and OB right. The green slopes pretty hard from left to right.
Hole 2 is a sharp dogleg left par 4. Need a tee shot of about 200 yards to clear the dogleg.....but too much and it goes through the fairway into the pond on the other side.
Hole 3 is a short uphill par 4.
Hole 4 is a medium length par 4, trees left and water right really pinch in your landing area. Then its an uphill approach to a green guarded by bunkers on both sides.
Hole 5 is a shot par 5. Very reachable in 2 if you stay on the left center of the fairway.
Hole 6 is a short part 3. But all carry over a pond to a peninsula green.
Hole 7 is a shorter par 4, with a blind uphill tee shot and a downhill approach.
Hole 8 is another blind shot. You need to hit it about 225 off the white tees. Anything past the 150 rolls down the hill and at worst rolls into the water, or at best you have a steep downhill lie.
Hole 9 is a medium length par 3 to finish the 9.
Hole 10 is a medium length downhill par 4.
Hole 11 is a shorter par 3 to a hole that sits at an angle and is guarded by bunkers.
Hole 12 is the longest par 4 on the course, and slightly uphill but straight away.
Hole 13 is a little different. It is a short par 5 with a hard dogleg right. Again, a tee shot of around 200 yards is reguired unless you try to cut the corner. Then you play uphill to a green well guarded by bunkers and mounds.
14 is a straight away slightly downhill par 4.
15 Is a shorter par 3 but again all carry over a small pond to the green.
16 makes you decide. Lay up at the 150 (about 180 yards off the tee) or drive it over the creek. Either way its a tight driving hole, and the second shot plays steeply up hill.
17 is a short, tight, part 4 that moves left late in the hole.
18 Is a double dogleg long par 5. It goes right off the tee, and then hard left up the hill. Your layup shot has to be precise bc two ponds and a creek really pinch the landing area in.
In all, its not a bad course at all especially for the price. Once the weather warms up more the conditions will gradually improve, and the other times I have been there, the pace of play has been ok. So I would recommend you give it a shot.
Good course
I’m almost 60. I’ve played more golf at Village Greens than any other course. The course never disappoints. That being said, the guy at the counter taking money was about as rude as they get. I told him thank you twice just try to get a response. He should be thanking me for my business instead of being so gruff. Really brings down the rest of the place when your day starts off with a jerk. If that’s as friendly as he can be then he needs to do something else. I’m in sales. With that kind of attitude I’d be broke!
Grass finally growing in the fairways
Fairways have grass in them now. The greens are pretty fast but also receptive
Only hole I will complain about it 18 but that’s because it owns me every time
Overall the course is in great condition. Green side sand trap need sand badly- most are hard pan and you’ll be unable to stop ball on green.
Green side bunkers.
Course is in great shape. My only complaint is the greenside bunkers lacking sand. Can’t really take a traditional bunker swing in the traps. About 1/8 inch of sand then hard packed ground underneath. Especially next to green on the 11th. Absolutely no way to keep it on green if your in that bunkers with the lack of sand.
Normally a Nice Course
This course is usually in pretty good shape but Sunday felt like we were playing on a dirt track. No grass in the fairways which made it hard to hit the ball. Greens were slick but that was fine. I would not be complaining if the rates were a little lower being that we drove from Asheville.NC
Thanks for leaving us a great rating!
Course needs work
I know it’s fall but, the fairways had no grass. The greens were in good space but, very inconsistent. One was fast others were so slow. It was wet, maybe that played part but, we met a regular during round and he had nothing good to say.
I’d go back in summer maybe, it will be nicer?
Thanks for the feedback, and we hope you'll come back in summer.
Great layout
Beautiful par 3s. Nice layout. Challenging greens
Thanks for the great feedback!
Slow Fivesome
Course is in good shape given winter conditions - Fivesome was slowing everyone down - greens are FAST and rolling - Mulligans is a great place to unwind - love playing this course
We appreciate your great rating and review!
Nice Course
Once we got there everything started with a frost delay one and a 1/2 hours Course was busy Slow play But it was a very nice day We finished just before starting getting dark The layout of course was great Staff was great And I will play it again
We're glad you had a great time, and we look forward to seeing you back!
Wow...greens are challenging!
Really neat property with some interesting holes but some almost unplayable the way the greens fall off. First time playing and group had experience otherwise, wow! Slow but expected for a Sat, and enjoyable group. Starter did what he could but some groups seemed to think T-time was general guidance - not on box, not ready, etc. Will definitely make the trip again to get another shot at it...
Thanks for the great feedback!
Great course
The layout is nice, fairly difficult. It’s wintered over now so the ball just rolls forever. The greens are in excellent shape and fast AF. Lots of 3 putting until you get used to it. Nice bar with food and surprisingly good whiskey selection but don’t have any at the turn like I did because the back nine will be so much harder.
