The Preserve at Verdae
About
The Preserve at Verdae sprawls across a lush landscape of rolling hills and meadows covered with beautiful Carolina forests. Formerly known as Verdae Greens, the golf course was completely revamped but one of the primary goals of the renovation was to find harmony between golf and nature. The carefully reworked course does just that, blending seamlessly into its scenic surroundings. Rambling brooks wander across the layout and provide water hazards on a few holes. The wind is also a major factor on this golf course. The breezes can be either light and refreshing or strong and blustery, making proper club selection even more important. The most photographed hole on the golf course is the par-3 second. If you're lucky enough to come when the azaleas are blooming, this hole offers a breathtaking setting.

Beautiful but tough finishing hope. Photo submitted by u000001682547 on 10/03/2013
Good course for challenging shot making
This course is one of those rare courses where each hole presents a different type of shot challenge. Whether it's a long par 3 or a short par 4 where driver is a poor choice from nearly any tee, this course layout forces you to think about each drive and approach and putts outside of 8 feet are often tricky reads.
Even with the recent wacky weather in the Upstate of SC, the superintendent and his grounds crew have kept the course and greens in really good shape.
I really enjoy playing this course.
"Tough day" was Tough
This course is challenging... especially on "tough day" where every pin is set up on the most difficult area of the green. Greens were in excellent shape with many challenging dog legs and out of bounds created by water, streams and lakes. If you don't know this course, or play with someone who does, there are surprises where streams and hazards, not visible from the tee, will eat your shot, unless you are told to lay up, etc., Staff was professional and positive. Pace was excellent.
Enjoy, but if you are a bogey golfer like me, expect to donate a couple balls to the course even when you make a "good" shot.
Good Day at Verdae
Booked on GolfNow for 2 players at a great price. Course is still coming out of winter, but greens in nice shape. A little wet from recent rain, but we picked a nice warm day to play. Paired w another young fellow and made a nice afternoon of it. Course is a real challenge with some forced carries and blind shots. Playable with bailout options. Would play it again. If you spray the ball off the tee, you will have a tough day.
Winter Golf
The course was in decent shape for this time of year.I was impress By the greens having grass on them for this time of year.I love the course for its toughness but playability.
Challenging, well maintained course
This is a challenging course. Played the blue tees which was a lot of golf course for me. Every hole is different and interesting. Great winter conditions. The staff was great, very helpful and welcoming. Definitely recommend this course if you want to test your game.
Awesome Experience
We played here on a Friday in early March. The course was in ok shape. Greens were very grainy and that is to be expected. I enjoyed it a lot. We were able to play 36 holes in about 6.5 hours. Great tough and fun course.
Your Average Willard Byrd Course!
This is your typical Willard Byrd Course; narrow fairways, blind shots, dog legs galore, and fast greens that if you miss the hole your ball keeps on rolling down hill. I knew from reading previous reviews that since I signed up for the red hot special that I would be paired up with three strangers. Even though the young man in the pro shop told me on Sunday that Golf Now Courses do this I know for a fact that not all Golf Now Courses pair strangers up. I have played at least fifty rounds on ten Golf Now Courses in three states and this is only the second time I have even been paired up with strangers. Most Golf Now Courses that I have played have given me the option to play by myself (or with my partner as a twosome) or play with strangers. The three other guys were all friends that were fifteen years younger than me and I have a 75 to 80 mph swing speed but all three of them had a 115 to 120 mph swing speeds. I normally play from the gold or red tees but I played from the blues and white tees with them to speed things up and I have never done that before. I even rode in the cart with one of the guys and they were all nice to me but it could have been very awkward for many golfers. Be advise if you sign up as a single! I left after nine holes because I had to get home. Overall it wasn't all that bad and I enjoyed playing golf with my partners even though it was too much for me to play from the blue and white tees.
Condition of the greens
Big hole plugs all over the greens the maid of black rubber
Grossly overrated here
Rained out and no refunds.
Thats Golf Never for you.
Not a bad course, not the best but not the worst
Nice course layout with some challenging shots. First time playing this course but was fortunate to be paired with another player who knew the layout well and was given tips on all the doflegs for best results. Pro shop personnel was rather abrupt and didn't seem to want to be bothered by the likes of me, starter was great and funny, easy going. It was a nice 75 degree day almost no wind, all the people in our forsome purchased our tee times on Golf Now and all strangers, everyone was nice and we had a good time.
Challenging but nice course
It was 36 degree weather so only a couple of groups were playing. The starter was rude as we were trying to finish our roundand made us skip the 17 th hole and go to 18 and finish our round. We would have had time to finish before dark if we could have played the 17th.It was a slow round due to him making us cart path only.It should have been 90 degree rulebecause it was only wet in very few areas that we could have easily avoided.
Great staff & course to play on
I visited from Oregon for the holidays & decided to play a round. I received great hospitality from their staff
South Carolina golf at its best
Awesome golf course great greens dramatic lay out super friendly staff ! Shot high 80’s but was my 1st Time there struggled w “grain “ & speed on the front 9 ,learned quickly from that & had steady satisfying back.. ... winter hit Long Island so I’m shutting it down but will replay this round for inspiration this winter all in all one of the best course I played this year !
