The Preserve at Verdae
About
The Preserve at Verdae sprawls across a lush landscape of rolling hills and meadows covered with beautiful Carolina forests. Formerly known as Verdae Greens, the golf course was completely revamped but one of the primary goals of the renovation was to find harmony between golf and nature. The carefully reworked course does just that, blending seamlessly into its scenic surroundings. Rambling brooks wander across the layout and provide water hazards on a few holes. The wind is also a major factor on this golf course. The breezes can be either light and refreshing or strong and blustery, making proper club selection even more important. The most photographed hole on the golf course is the par-3 second. If you're lucky enough to come when the azaleas are blooming, this hole offers a breathtaking setting.

Beautiful but tough finishing hope. Photo submitted by u000001682547 on 10/03/2013
love
This course is extremely challenging for a high handicap player from the blue tees. Make sure you move up to the whites, even though the blue tees are not the back tees. I loved it because I could hit my driver. I hit the ball around 280 off the tee so it is not a prob for me but the guy I played with is not as good with his driver. The greens are in great shape. Not sure what type of grass it was but really good feel to it. pretty quick greens even though it was rainy. I wish I could play this course again real soon.
Verdae
As always this course is a challenge from every tee box
Great Course
Great course. Challenging but playable. Fun to play. Had a good time. Will be back.
Good course Terrible Pace
Pace of play was horrible. While the course is in good condition and the amenities are nice, it took us over 3 hours to play nine.
Hot but fun
First off, the course let everyone know before making a reservation that they had aerated their greens. Besides the greens, the course was in very nice shape. Unfortunately they were running a special and a lot of people that normally don't play much golf were out. This caused issues with pace of play and a little edicate. With it being in the 90's was a little bit of an issue. BUT, if you relaxed, enjoyed the very nice scenery and course, it was a very nice time..
Great course with friendly staff
I love this course! The only negative thing would be the greens. They were recently punched but I knew that before coming out to play. I can't give a great course a bad rating for doing routine and needed maintenance. Once they heal it would be a fast green which I prefer. I'm from houston and I will be coming back in the near future. It is now on my Greenville must play again list.
Not worth it
I've played this course dozens of times over the years because there are few convenient options for public courses. Every time I finish, I say to myself, "I'm not going back". The "preserve" title appears like an excuse to let the rough go out of control. Five foot tall weeds make it look, feel and play like a course that isn't maintained. Too much to pay for cart paths that are crumbling, greens that seem to be always be hanging on by thread, and waste high areas that make it impossible to find a ball that rolls off the fairway.
Pace of play is terrible.
This course is definitely for high handicapers. Course fairways are very nerrow. A slow group in front of us the whole day. We waited 5-10 minutes every hole. By the time we get to hole 13 a marshel came and told us to speed up because there are three groups behind us. I ask him to go and tell yhe group in front of us to speed up, he tell tell me that he knows, but turn around and go back to the club house.
The Preserve
I visit Greenville area once a year and make The Preserve a choice to play several times during my stay. A challenging course, no matter what level player you are. Staff is always friendly and the course in excellent shape. This year my visit was a rainy one. Twice played it was cart path only, which made walking the hilly course somewhat difficult, but still enjoyed the course. Third time was a charm. I moved up a tee box to play with the group I was paired with, and the course still bit me.
Overall I had a great experience at the Preserve at Verdae, but there was lots of activity, construction-wise, since this course will be used in a couple of weeks for the web.com tour event. So, even though fairways were Not wet, it was cart path only, because of the web.com upcoming event.
Not Returning
Very uninspiring layout. Not very scenic and very unfriendly design. I will not be returning.
Too packed
Course conditions were great. Nicer than some of the cheaper courses around, but we were behind multiple foursomes that could not keep a proper pace. At one point there were 3 groups on a tee box waiting to hit. We called the pro shop to get a ranger out. When the ranger came he said there was nothing he could do because there were groups ahead of them. We played 9 holes in 3 hours. It's a shame the staff can't force players to play at a proper pace because it would be a great course.
Early season
At this time of the year, I would recommend playing the special vs full price. With that said, the greens were in pretty good shape and fairways were coming in nicely. Looking forward to playing it again maybe first of May.
Grass
The overall grass conditions were not what I expected. Lots of construction going on. We only play here 2-4 times a year while visiting family. We play 2-4 times a week when we are at home in Ohio.
Nice course
Course is nice and a great deal with golf now hot deal. Got paired with a nice couple. All in all was worth the two hour trip. Two small issues. I would love to have had a yardage book but $20 was steep. Only paid $29 to play. The starter was a bit grumpy. The carts wheels were touching the grass by the putting green and he was mumbling about staying on the cart path. Acting like my dog took a #2 in his yard or something.
Move It Along Please
Course was in good condition for an early spring round of golf.
Can play tough and cost you strokes and golf balls if your shots are offline.
I was paired up with three gentleman and we had a good day of golf.
My biggest concern was a threesome with a cart in front of us who were more interested in searching for golf balls than playing golf. We had a mid afternoon tee tine so we understood that the pace of play could be on the slow side which did occurr on the front nine. By the time we made the turn to hole number 10, there was an open hole in front of the threesome in front of us. Consequently we were held up on every shot on every hole from 10-14. Finally on tee #15 after hitting their tee shots just off the tee, they had the audacity to start a search for balls and didn't quit until we left the 14th green and got into our carts to head to number 15. We decided to request they let us play th ought and they reluctantly agreed. After playing the 15th hole, one of the guys said we needed to get some patience.
Unfortunately, we hadn't seen a ranger on the back nine or we would have asked him to push the three some in front of us along. Itcouldhave been that we made the turn to number 10 about 4:45 and the ranger had left for home for the day.
Oh well, still a good day for golf, enjoyed the fellas I played with on a gorgeous spring day in Greenville, SC.
First time
For winter golf the course was in pretty good condition. The staff was extremely friendly. Special thanks to Bill the starter, Who made me feel very welcome and let me know a lot about the course I was about to play.. Definitely will be back again.
