The Preserve at Verdae
About
The Preserve at Verdae sprawls across a lush landscape of rolling hills and meadows covered with beautiful Carolina forests. Formerly known as Verdae Greens, the golf course was completely revamped but one of the primary goals of the renovation was to find harmony between golf and nature. The carefully reworked course does just that, blending seamlessly into its scenic surroundings. Rambling brooks wander across the layout and provide water hazards on a few holes. The wind is also a major factor on this golf course. The breezes can be either light and refreshing or strong and blustery, making proper club selection even more important. The most photographed hole on the golf course is the par-3 second. If you're lucky enough to come when the azaleas are blooming, this hole offers a breathtaking setting.

Beautiful but tough finishing hope. Photo submitted by u000001682547 on 10/03/2013
Great challenge
The course is almost always in great shape!
Greens hold, smooth and are fast at times.
Keep it in the fairway and you'll have no problem moving the rock around the course.
I'm sure you won't regret playing here.
GolfNow.com has the best deals in the upstate for this course if you're lucky enough to get the Hot Deal.
Second verse better than the first
The course layout is an incredible challenge but the main hazard theme is deep rough. I had played this course for the first time prior to Web.com tournament and pace of play was slow due to cart path only in preparation to the tournament. This time around the pace of play was a lot better and the staff was very attentive and friendly. My only critique would be that the fairways had plenty of divots that were not being filled by the players that made them. Other than that I will definitely be back again.
Great
Course was in fantastic shape. Must stay in fairway. Looks like Verde of the old without the big trees in middle of course. Greens nice....
Fun course
Challenging layout will keep you on your toes. Presently the course is going through an improvement process. Pace is slow due to the difficulty of the course. This is a course that will make you a better player. When I return to Greenville I will play again. Hope the improvements are done by then.
Interesting but Challenging
We got a great GolfNow deal on "eclipse day". We loved the layout and both fairways and greens were in really good condition. Coming from the Low country, we had to get used to hitting off uneven lies, but it was still fun.
As an older female 30 handicapper, however, I found some of the carry off of the tees a little too challenging and would recommend a forward tee. My husband played well and loved the course.
I would have given a 5 star rating, but the it was a difficult course to navigate due to areas of nonexistent cart paths. Driving up hill on gravel paths was difficult and dangerous. Hoping they are working on the paths to improve the experience.
love
This course is extremely challenging for a high handicap player from the blue tees. Make sure you move up to the whites, even though the blue tees are not the back tees. I loved it because I could hit my driver. I hit the ball around 280 off the tee so it is not a prob for me but the guy I played with is not as good with his driver. The greens are in great shape. Not sure what type of grass it was but really good feel to it. pretty quick greens even though it was rainy. I wish I could play this course again real soon.
Verdae
As always this course is a challenge from every tee box
Great Course
Great course. Challenging but playable. Fun to play. Had a good time. Will be back.
Good course Terrible Pace
Pace of play was horrible. While the course is in good condition and the amenities are nice, it took us over 3 hours to play nine.
Hot but fun
First off, the course let everyone know before making a reservation that they had aerated their greens. Besides the greens, the course was in very nice shape. Unfortunately they were running a special and a lot of people that normally don't play much golf were out. This caused issues with pace of play and a little edicate. With it being in the 90's was a little bit of an issue. BUT, if you relaxed, enjoyed the very nice scenery and course, it was a very nice time..
Great course with friendly staff
I love this course! The only negative thing would be the greens. They were recently punched but I knew that before coming out to play. I can't give a great course a bad rating for doing routine and needed maintenance. Once they heal it would be a fast green which I prefer. I'm from houston and I will be coming back in the near future. It is now on my Greenville must play again list.
Not worth it
I've played this course dozens of times over the years because there are few convenient options for public courses. Every time I finish, I say to myself, "I'm not going back". The "preserve" title appears like an excuse to let the rough go out of control. Five foot tall weeds make it look, feel and play like a course that isn't maintained. Too much to pay for cart paths that are crumbling, greens that seem to be always be hanging on by thread, and waste high areas that make it impossible to find a ball that rolls off the fairway.
Pace of play is terrible.
This course is definitely for high handicapers. Course fairways are very nerrow. A slow group in front of us the whole day. We waited 5-10 minutes every hole. By the time we get to hole 13 a marshel came and told us to speed up because there are three groups behind us. I ask him to go and tell yhe group in front of us to speed up, he tell tell me that he knows, but turn around and go back to the club house.
The Preserve
I visit Greenville area once a year and make The Preserve a choice to play several times during my stay. A challenging course, no matter what level player you are. Staff is always friendly and the course in excellent shape. This year my visit was a rainy one. Twice played it was cart path only, which made walking the hilly course somewhat difficult, but still enjoyed the course. Third time was a charm. I moved up a tee box to play with the group I was paired with, and the course still bit me.
Overall I had a great experience at the Preserve at Verdae, but there was lots of activity, construction-wise, since this course will be used in a couple of weeks for the web.com tour event. So, even though fairways were Not wet, it was cart path only, because of the web.com upcoming event.
