The Preserve at Verdae
About
The Preserve at Verdae sprawls across a lush landscape of rolling hills and meadows covered with beautiful Carolina forests. Formerly known as Verdae Greens, the golf course was completely revamped but one of the primary goals of the renovation was to find harmony between golf and nature. The carefully reworked course does just that, blending seamlessly into its scenic surroundings. Rambling brooks wander across the layout and provide water hazards on a few holes. The wind is also a major factor on this golf course. The breezes can be either light and refreshing or strong and blustery, making proper club selection even more important. The most photographed hole on the golf course is the par-3 second. If you're lucky enough to come when the azaleas are blooming, this hole offers a breathtaking setting.

Not Returning
Very uninspiring layout. Not very scenic and very unfriendly design. I will not be returning.
Too packed
Course conditions were great. Nicer than some of the cheaper courses around, but we were behind multiple foursomes that could not keep a proper pace. At one point there were 3 groups on a tee box waiting to hit. We called the pro shop to get a ranger out. When the ranger came he said there was nothing he could do because there were groups ahead of them. We played 9 holes in 3 hours. It's a shame the staff can't force players to play at a proper pace because it would be a great course.
Early season
At this time of the year, I would recommend playing the special vs full price. With that said, the greens were in pretty good shape and fairways were coming in nicely. Looking forward to playing it again maybe first of May.
Grass
The overall grass conditions were not what I expected. Lots of construction going on. We only play here 2-4 times a year while visiting family. We play 2-4 times a week when we are at home in Ohio.
Nice course
Course is nice and a great deal with golf now hot deal. Got paired with a nice couple. All in all was worth the two hour trip. Two small issues. I would love to have had a yardage book but $20 was steep. Only paid $29 to play. The starter was a bit grumpy. The carts wheels were touching the grass by the putting green and he was mumbling about staying on the cart path. Acting like my dog took a #2 in his yard or something.
Move It Along Please
Course was in good condition for an early spring round of golf.
Can play tough and cost you strokes and golf balls if your shots are offline.
I was paired up with three gentleman and we had a good day of golf.
My biggest concern was a threesome with a cart in front of us who were more interested in searching for golf balls than playing golf. We had a mid afternoon tee tine so we understood that the pace of play could be on the slow side which did occurr on the front nine. By the time we made the turn to hole number 10, there was an open hole in front of the threesome in front of us. Consequently we were held up on every shot on every hole from 10-14. Finally on tee #15 after hitting their tee shots just off the tee, they had the audacity to start a search for balls and didn't quit until we left the 14th green and got into our carts to head to number 15. We decided to request they let us play th ought and they reluctantly agreed. After playing the 15th hole, one of the guys said we needed to get some patience.
Unfortunately, we hadn't seen a ranger on the back nine or we would have asked him to push the three some in front of us along. Itcouldhave been that we made the turn to number 10 about 4:45 and the ranger had left for home for the day.
Oh well, still a good day for golf, enjoyed the fellas I played with on a gorgeous spring day in Greenville, SC.
First time
For winter golf the course was in pretty good condition. The staff was extremely friendly. Special thanks to Bill the starter, Who made me feel very welcome and let me know a lot about the course I was about to play.. Definitely will be back again.
Nice course but poor attitude in pro shop
Purchased a hot deal and checked in by a lady that stated 'oh, you are one of those'... that was not a warm welcome! Otherwise everyone else was extremely nice and I thought the course and layout was very nice.
Web.com coming. Work to do.
This is a nice layout with the potential for a great day on the golf course. Very friendly staff and excellent facilities.
BUT they have A LOT of work to do before the Web.com tournament in May or be seriously embarrassed.
Terrible drainage issues - which everyone is well aware of and major efforts have been made in the past to correct. Water just does not run up hill very well. It is as simple as that.
Played dry, the course is great. Played after an inch of rain it is a quagmire.
The greens either were not cut on March 2 or cut at a quarter of inch or so for some reason. Maybe with the long term needs the tournament brings with it. They are thick and should produce a great surface when cut properly. This day they were so long at noon you could stand and see the lay of the grain from ten feet. I don't mean the shine on the blades. I mean the actual grass blades laying to one side. Putts were extremely slow into the grain but fast running away. Not unusual for balls to break out of the hole three to six inches away and roll six to eight feet down the slope or stop four feet short on a ten foot putt - just depending on the grain and slope encountered. That is just golf, I guess. I certainly will go play it again when I catch a HOT VALUE. It can't stay wet forever - can it?
Great Course but not for the Impaired.
We played today and it was my first time to play the course. I happened to be in Greenville for the day and saw it on Golf Now. The course was in great condition for winter golf. The greens were just uncovered, receptive and putted exceptionally well for early in the season. You better know how to play the grain as they were extremely fast down grain and slow into the grain. The staff was friendly and got us out about 30 minutes ahead of schedule as there were a few open tee times.
The only issue I had was the cart path to fairways. There were several holes which has cart paths on a hill and are played cart path only. It is easy to see that they need to protect the fairway. However, at 63 years of age and needing a hip replacement, it was very difficult to walk down the hills to the fairway and from the path to the greens or tee boxes where stairs were required. For the physically impaired it is hard to play and there is very little they can do about it as there are few options which would let you into these fairways and close to the greens or tee boxes.
Interesting Terrain
Can be a bit tricky.
Rewards shot placement.
Tee boxes still need levelling.
3rd hole (formerly the 12th) the most challenging
The Preserve is challenging but fair
The course layout is fun and beautiful, with well manicured greens and fairways
Great shape for Winter time
The course was in great shape for it being winter. The greens rolled very well.
They must hate golf now...
This course is always in great shape and my favorite to play in Greenville. My best friend and I meet to play here every once and a while because it's halfway between us in Charlotte and Atlanta. The biggest disappointment came from the clubhouse staff and the restaurant/snack bar staff.
IF you plan to use the GolfNow hot deal, prepare to be treated like a second-class citizen. $25 is insanely good to play this course but it doesn't mean you deserve to be treated any less than full paying customers. After us both driving about 2.5 hours to meet there, we were about an hour early, we asked if there was any way to tee off early. We even stated how far we'd came and it was just to not drive back in the dark. The pro shop attendance response was literally, "Not a chance." Okay, I thought they must be busy and I also understand that the hot deal tee time is set in stone. Didn't think a lot about it. Later when we never saw anyone in front of us the entire round, we realized the "not a chance" was likely due to the hot deal purchase.
We're all solid golfers and get around a course quickly. The range attendant came up to us at the turn and suggested we were playing slow (2:10 pace for 9) and that they wanted to send a single out in front of on the turn. No problem we said. Went on with the round.
At about the 14th hole, the cart girl came and two in our party purchased alcoholic beverages. She said she could take cards but had to swipe it at the clubhouse and would bring it back out. She never came. When my buddy went in to get his card, she was very rude and bothered saying that since they'd closed the shop, she had to close out his card. He mentioned to her that she said she'd bring it back. She denied that even though we all heard her say it. She gave herself a 20% tip. Pretty sure that's legal. At least unethical.
Great course but we'll be looking somewhere else to play in Greenville where they appreciate people that choose to play their course.
Highly enjoyable round!
Had a beautiful day, great partner, and an OK round on a course that is in excellent condition for this time of year! The course is challenging for an average golfer like me, with a good mix of both wide and narrow fairways, both short an lengthy par 3s, and large greens that putt true but some are difficult to read (at least for me). A beautiful course, particularly the approach show from top of hill on #17. One caveat ... good chance you will lose a few balls if you miss the fairway ... high rough will penalize you severely!
Overall Good Day Out
Loved the course, perfect weather, overall great experience - but the one detractor was the extreme slow play by two groups ahead of us who refused to let anyone through. It took 3 hours to play the front nine, end of story.
Fun round
We had snow last week and it was just a little soggy, but not bad enough to warrant "cart path only"! I guess we all suffer for those who don't respect the course. That said, it was 78 degrees in the middle of January! We had an awesome day!
