The Preserve at Verdae
About
The Preserve at Verdae sprawls across a lush landscape of rolling hills and meadows covered with beautiful Carolina forests. Formerly known as Verdae Greens, the golf course was completely revamped but one of the primary goals of the renovation was to find harmony between golf and nature. The carefully reworked course does just that, blending seamlessly into its scenic surroundings. Rambling brooks wander across the layout and provide water hazards on a few holes. The wind is also a major factor on this golf course. The breezes can be either light and refreshing or strong and blustery, making proper club selection even more important. The most photographed hole on the golf course is the par-3 second. If you're lucky enough to come when the azaleas are blooming, this hole offers a breathtaking setting.

Beautiful but tough finishing hope. Photo submitted by u000001682547 on 10/03/2013
Very nice greens
Plays a little tight & has some blind approach shots. Course in great condition.
The establishment needs a ranger on the course
Ridiculously long round! had several groups in front of mine (single that turned into a threesome) playing best ball. No reason at all for the moping about that these guys were doing! get to your ball and hit! Where's the "While We're Young" initiative when you need it!
Always in great shape
Great course for anyone. An "A" can play a "B" player from different tees and it can be a dual. You'll use every club in your bag. Some holes you have to place it well and others you can BOMB it! I would recommend the course to anyone especially at the Golfnow rate!!!
A Gem in Greenville
We were greeted in the parking lot when a staff person brought a cart out to our car for us. The people in the pro shop were very welcoming and got us on the course quickly, the starter gave us a few helpful tips about playing the course. Conditions were fantastic, this is a very well maintained course. The course is challeging without being too difficult to be frustrating for a 14 handicapper. I highly recommend play this course, you will enjoy every bit of it!
this course has significant variety
this course has significant variety in the different types of holes and hole lengths. Tough par 3's
Great course!
Well kept course with nice views and a good challenge....eighteenth hole was a little disappointing.....but overall great place to play.
decent golf course
The greens were in poor shape while the rest of course was in good condition. Accuracy off the tee is needed for good score. I recommend playing only if you can find a Hot Deal.
really tight holes
the course is pretty tight and some holes are very unforgiving but the greens roll true and the yardage is usually spot on.
Course was in good shape and was fun to play
Course was well maintained and fun to play. Some tee boxes were in bad shape, but most were fine.
Top of the line golf course!
Other than the slow 5+ hour for 18 holes...its a great course. Probably need to get a course ranger to speed up the pace.
Really enjoy playing this course. Could use some "sand" in their bunkers
Great staff and super friendly. Could use additional yardage markers on some of the par 3's
Very nice course, I recommend!
The course as a whole is nice. The facilities are terrific and service was excellent. Cart paths could use some work.
There were several blind shots off the tee. It would have been nice to had a hole layout view at each hole so you'd know if there was any hazards to be aware of.
The 4 or 5 different tee placements was nice. Golfers at any level of skill can play and enjoy this course. I'd play again if in the area.
Great greens, but they're going a little overboard with the whole "preserve" thing, in my opinion.
They really have done a superb job with the greens at Verdae. However, I take issue with the "preserve' thing as it seems the main thing they are preserving is gasoline in their lawn equipment. Far too many weeds make up the areas intended to be 'preserved' in their natural state. The tee boxes were inconsistently maintained. Also, the rough is way to rough in many areas, which for the casual golfer greatly slows down the pace of play. Last Sunday was over 4:30, but it was the threesome in front of our foursome that was the problem. They looked like 30 handicappers and they were playing it all the way back! It is a challenging course for sure and it's location is ideal if you're close to downtown G'ville. I feel it's a little pricey, but the natural economic laws should take care of that, eventually. But then, that's why I shop GolfNow.com!
Precision Required
Verdae is the most centrally located course to Greenville, but do not let the convenience lull you into a sense of security. More holes than not have trouble lurking off the fairways and greens for the shot that is slightly off line or if distance is not controlled. I would recommend playing up a tee for the 8+ handicappers to enable opportunities for shorter irons into greens. Greens are relatively quick, but grain makes shorter putts very challenging. Par is a great score at the opening two holes, with both requiring longer irons into the green from the blue/black tees. 5-7 and 9-11 are scoring holes, although hazard awaits those who get out of position or hit poor shots on 5 of these 6 holes. Number 15 may be the most challenging Par 3 in the area from the back tee at 235 yards with hazard fronting the green. The par 5 18th is a disappointing finishing hole unfortunately, requiring a layup off the tee, with close to a 90 degree dogleg to the right straight up the hill to a 3 tiered green. With some fine tuning, Verdae could be very good, but some of the rocky areas off fairways and awkward design of certain holes (5, 7, 17, 18) make it a slightly above average public venue for the area.
Great day for golf on a great course!
The course was in great shape and the pro shop staff was very friendly and helpful. My only complaint was the starter questioned us about why we were a behind time at the turn and we were right behind the group in front of us, couldn't play any faster because it was busy on Memorial Day weekend . I thouroughly enjoyed The Preserve at Verdae experience and will return.
great value for a friday afternoon tee-time
I would pay $30 or more for this course and I paid only $18 including a cart. I am very pleased.
Excellent course
This was the first time my friends and I played this course, it was challenging but fun. The wildlife that you see was great, I walked up to 5 feet to a red tailed hawk standing in the middle of the fairway. The greens and fairways was in excellent condition, and the staff at the course was friendly and made you fill like you was a member. A excellent experience, will book this course again with Golf Now. Thanks, Jettdaddy.
the greens are tricky
nice course. must drive it straight and the greens are tricky.
Requires time and money...
This is a great course but it requires a large amount of money and time to bring it to its full potential and I don't see signs of either taking place now or in the near future. I have the feeling that the ownership has neither the inclination to spend the time to bring this course up to speed and from all appearances won't be spending the money either. Too bad as this course really has potential. I know it's early in the season but way too much needs to be done.
Will play it again
For this time of year the course was in very good condition. Most greens rolled well with only a couple exceptions. Minor course maintenance going on, but should be expected. Have played the course before and hope to play it again soon.
