Hole 17 is the reason you should play here.
So we played Patriots point a little over a week after the historic levels of rain and flooding in the Charleston area. I have absolutely given them a pass on any wet areas still on the course and the fact that it was cart path only. I can say that there wasn't too much damage to the course. Our twosome enjoyed our round, we found that the holes were varied, and the greens were straightforward. Rough was a bit long and unforgiving, but we were not used to the bermuda grass. We did have a pretty good time trying to hit the island green on 17 - a 125 yard shot from the tee affected by wind, a surrounding marsh and a slight bit of elevation.
That being said there are areas the course could improve, - Most notably cart paths. A couple of fairways were quite lumpy (12)- not sure if that was because of storm damage or just an unpolished product. Staff was friendly and efficient. For the location, price we got on golfnow and the views on 16,17 and the green of 18 made it an enjoyable day.
Loved the views
Hole 17 was very challenging. 125 to an island green in the marsh...hard to judge the wind and distance...lost about 4 balls to the marsh!!!
Thank you for playing Patriots Point! We are sorry that you lost 4 balls to the to the 17th hole. Come back out and test your luck!
Rough was long, but everything else was great
Rough was so long that you had to walk right on top of it to see it often times. US open style, hard to make progress out. Rest was better than advertised.
Disappointed
Not a very good golf course. Only ocean views on the 16, 17 and 18th holes. Fairways are very average.
Not worth the money
Condition fair. Cart paths in need of repair. Fairways incredibly bumpy -- back was sore from all the bouncing around. Food poor.
Not worth it
First time I have felt compelled to rate a course. Definitely not a $73 course even if it was in better condition. Greens were spotty and several on the back nine had very little grass on them. Fire ants, mosquitos and no seeums everywhere. Other than the last three holes not even that scenic.
And to top it all off the marshall was a real pain. Constantly driving up and watching as you hit your tee shot. We played in less than four hours with cart paths only and he told us on one occasion we needed to speed up after playing the front nine in under 2 hours. We've played several courses in the Charleston area including Dunes West and Charleston National and those are a much better value
Sub-par
This course could be very nice, but unfortunately they don't put the money into it and the few staff they have are not at all interested in you having a good round. When we got there we went in to check in and the desk staff ignored us and talked to the local guys coming in and proceeded to talk through all their bets, and who cut who. We waited a good 10 minutes in line where they obviously saw we were waiting. Then when we got up there they pulled up the rate we were quoted on "tee times" and said "wow you guys are paying $80 per player, our rate is $50 this time of day". We asked him if he would honor that and he just looked at us and said that was on us for not having called the course and he wouldn't change it. That's not a good way to start. Then as we got to the practice green to chip and putt a 5some came up and said the pro shop told them they could go right out and that we would need to go on and tee off if we didn't want to get behind them. We were a 2some. Lastly, the fairways we're gouged more than punched. They had really bad dirt holes and ungroomed undulation and then to save money just didn't bother to cut the rough or have an intermediate cut.
This course sits right on the point lover looking the port and has a decent layout for a public course, but the total lack of care for the customer or course makes it a huge disappointment and I would not recommend to anyone!
Good public course
Good public course. Aerating front nine which required us to play back 9 twice. Limited players which allowed us to play 18 holes in 3 1/2 hours.
Better communication from staff needed
This course is wide open and flat. Which is great for the way I play! Conditions were ok, considering the local weather of late, but I've played at several other courses at the area that were in better shape. The tee boxes aren't marked very well - or at all, so it's easy to get lost. Biggest gripe is that the course closed early on July 4. I get it, that's fine, but they should of told us at the get go. We skipped three holes in order to make the time. Pace of play was excellent for a tourist course. We probably would've been able to get all 18 had we not taken a leisurely break at the turn.
Scenic last few holes and tough in the wind.
Pro shop and friendly staff. On course photographer on first tee.Course quite flat but a few strategic water hazards.Sugnature17th hole.Played Harbor course at Wild Dunes the previous day and preferred this.
Not bad
Course was in good shape given lack of rain this summer
Water please
They should be required to notify players that they have punched their green. Not in good shape. It was very hot and not much water to drink on the course!!!
Enjoyable
The course has great views! The pace of play can get clogged up because of the popularity; however, it is worth the wait. Yesterday was my second time playing, the first being one week earlier.
I wish the holes were marked more clearly so as to navigate the holes with greater ease. Also, the cart girl needs to make more frequent appearances.
All that said, the holes are challenging, the design well thought out, the views are unchallenged. I will add this course to my current course rotation.
great golf for the price
This course has a good layout and several holes with a bay view. Good location and great staff.
Generous fairways and beautiful views
long enough from tips to give some teeth but overall a nice course to play, several challenging holes. Great views and course condition!
Very disappointed
First off, because I did not read the fine print I would have known the course had just punched the greens. So in all fairness, I can't be critical about that. I also had to play the front nine twice. I was very disappointed in the other parts of the course. For what these guys charge the rest of the course should be in better shape. I would be kind by saying the rest of the course was decent. I will not play here again. Highly overrated.
One to Play in the Low Country
A fun course at the Patriots Point complex. Fairly wide open but with water abounding. Consult the scorecard because some hazards are hidden. Last three holes play along the harbor - scenic and breezy.
Good scenic golf course
The golf course was in good condition with some alligators. The greens were in good condition. Many holes had a good view of the Ravenel bridge and waterfront! Heavy rain prevented us from playing 16-18!
Great track
Given weather conditions the course plays well. Staff is friendly and helpful. Due to lack of rain course was only in good condition. I've played before and the greens and fairways were better.
Great Charleston Area Value Course
Played it as first round of a guys golf trip to Charleston. We all really enjoyed the course and felt it was a fantastic value. A perfect way to start the trip.
Thank you for playing Patriots Point! We are glad that you enjoyed the round even after all the rain that we received. Come back and see us again soon!
