Hole 3 par 5 Photo submitted by Rick9857150 on 09/10/2013
Constantly Improving
This is probably the 3rd or 4th time I’ve played Palmetto Hills this year and each time it’s amazing how much they’re making improvements. Some new paved and a lot of freshly graded cart paths, plus some reworking of hole 12 and 13 to promote drainage. The front greens had just been punched, but the course still overall is a good mix of challenging and enjoyable holes; plus a great value even with prime rates on the weekend during summer.
Don't waste your money
This was my first time playing at this course and I had high hopes since other courses in the area were nice and maintained. I drove an hour to get there.
Had a 8:10 tee time so I got there 30 minutes early to hit some balls on the driving range but when I went to pay for them I was told they had just sold the last bucket of balls. Apparently they had nobody working to pick up balls so could not hit on the driving range.
A lot of the cart paths are dirt and gravel which kicks up an extreme amount of dust if your following someone. You really have to watch out for the first hole because of the incline you will slide past your t-box.
After finishing 9 holes we went inside to get something to eat and they literally only had a rotisserie with hot dogs on it and a couple of sandwiches in a refrigerator. Very disappointing.
The course itself was pretty challenging which was nice but all in all I will never go back to this course again with all the other nicer courses in the area.
Great experience
Course was in great condition besides the two holes where renovations were being completed. GolfNow permitted the purchase of range balls for practice, but the course no longer has range practice balls so it was a waste of money with no refund possible.
Welp…
Saw the reviews and low price and truly played just to see if it was as expected; unfortunately it was much worse. Poor playing experience to go along with the poor condition of the course.
Good course, great value
Layout is somewhat hilly, with some challenging shots, particularly on the dog legs. Course is getting a lot of TLC now, so it should be in great shape within a few months. The grass was in really good shape, considering that it has been very dry due to the current drought. Would definitely recommend, especially for the price.
Decent, and getting better
I played there solo on a Monday and it was a great experience. Great layout, some hills with blind shots. Course was not crowded when I played. It is obvious that they’re putting a lot of work into improving the course, because there were lots of grounds workers annd earth moving equipment out there. That can be distracting, but I took it in stride because they weren’t interfering with my round and I knew they were making the course better. Conditions were dry, but there was grass everywhere and no major bald spots. One negative was that the grill and snack bar were closed, so the only snacks were those in the pro shop (on the day I played). I will definitely play there again. Great value.
Could’ve been much better
Had a teatime 1120, showed up at 10:45 and the computer systems were completely down and there’s only one guy working because the other guy overslept. Long line at the register as well as long line waiting for carts. Apparently whoever did the carts the night before must not have gassed a few of them up because they were quite a few that ran out or wouldn’t start. Gas carts over electric carts, which was weird. Course was nice with a few tight shots and the ability to carry some trees however it is very difficult to stay in the swing of things when it takes 45 minutes a hole because everybody is so backed up. Again, not trying to point fingers, but everybody was kind of given carts at the same time so everybody started playing at the same time so everyone got backed up at the same time. I skipped two holes to try to get through in a sub six our route. I am definitely not a PGA player and by no means am I even remotely good but when you have a group of four and they tee off from three separate tees that just takes a tremendous amount of time. That being said the course played nicely. Only complaint was that the water came on right as I was trying to Chip and drenched the green, but it was a nice laugh. Would probably not go back simply because it taking all afternoon kind of turned me off.
Course Has Potential
So, I am familiar with this course, and I know it's been purchased in the last few years. Hoping they can make some improvements, and I believe they are trying. Fairways are not ideal, rough is terrible. Very rocky, lot's of earth work being done near the course, so not great. Tee boxes were rock hard, so difficult to use. Course layout is actually really good for the most part, but for the money, not really inclined to return.
Under staffed and it shows
The course has so much potential. It is evident that they need staff because the course needs a lot of TLC. The T boxes are not in great shape. The fairways are very dry and weedy. New sod areas have died already, granted it has been dry the last few weeks. If they would put money into the state of the course I would come back and play again.
The course layout is very challenging and has potential to be fabulous. They need to charge more to keep it in better shape.
Don’t get me wrong, for the money you can’t play another full 18 holes for the price.
Worth the discounted price
Pace of play was over 1 hour back by the time we finished, since nobody at the club cared. The ground is mainly hard, red dirt throughout the course, which is always fun to play. The facilities are severely lacking: dirty bathrooms, limited food and drink items, older golf carts. The course was very challenging due to the many blind shots that were required. Somebody should buy this place and turn it into a bougie 18 hole course and do what they did to the par 3 in Greenville.
Needs major improvement for price
Fairways are ditches. Greens are a rough as fairways. Golf cart programming was a major issue, constants shut downs and issues. With all the sponsorship of holes, expected better fairways.
Course renovations
The owners are putting a ton of money into redoing much of the course and it shows
Going to be good soon
Great layout, can be challenging and punishing if you don’t have your distances sorted. You can tell they’re putting a lot of money and time into the course (punched fairway, new irrigation). Cart paths and some tee boxes in rough shape, but this course is a great value. Pace of play was an issue throughout the 9 holes of play, but it was the first 80 degree Friday for the year, so the course was busy.
