The Club at Pine Forest
About
The 18 semi-private holes at Pine Forest wind through the tall Summerville pines with numerous live oaks, dogwoods and a lake system thrown in for good measure. With an equal balance of straightaways, doglegs and elevation changes, this course is nicely balanced, with challenges and fun in store for golfers of all levels. Rental clubs and electric carts are available.
At 6,905 yards with a 138-slope rating, Pine Forest lives up to its name, as the course has numerous barriers of tall Summerville pines to cause problems for an errant shot. The Bob Spence design also makes use of water to add to the difficulty of some holes. It's a semi-private course, and they've named each hole, with No. 12 being known as "Little Augusta" while No. 15 is "Wastelands."

Other golfers/conditions
The staff set me right up to go a little ahead. My only set back was the tightness to play on the course, especially on a windy day such as today. It is not the best course by far (roots have taken a toll on the cart path, dry greens with bald spots, and more random 10 foot wide hills that are 5 foot tall) hitting these hills and the winding cart paths bounce your ball either A.) to the next hole which runs parallel to previous hole or B.) into the thorn thick woods. The “members” act like this is Augusta and have an attitude, will NOT let you play through their sub BOGEY golf game. The staff was friendly as can be, with some up keep to the cart trails, some more trees between the parallel holes, and either an irrigation system for lack of rain, this course could be pretty awesome. I Would recommend this to anyone as I intend to play here again but only for the marked down price I did today
RIDICULOUS
Do not book the 8:20 a.m. tee time because you will not tee off at that time. The course apparently has a group of around 20 or so men who play every morning at 8 a.m. in something called a blitz. Even though all the men appeared to be ready to go before 8 a.m., no one teed off until then. It wasn't until I started walking towards the 1st tee that I realized I would be waiting because there will still 2 more groups of these men to tee off. As you can imagine 4 or 5 foursomes not teeing off until 8 a.m. meant I would not be meeting my 8:20 tee time. I'm unsure why the course has tee times available when obviously this group plays every day.
I was a single and I played behind these groups for the entire 18. I thought at some point during the round golf etiquette would take over and the men would realize that even thought I was walking and they each had their own cart I was still waiting on every shot anywhere from 8 to 10 minutes. At no time did I ever see a ranger and I'm guessing even if there was one, it wouldn't have mattered. Apparently these men run the course and they didn't care if anyone else was playing. And the course seems to have decided to cater to these men rather than ensuring the pace of play or golf etiquette is being observed.
During the back 9 I decided to start walking even slower to my next shot; however I couldn't seem to put any space between myself and this group. I was happy when the 18 holes were over. Another note about the course in general is possibly stop overwatering the greens and the area around the greens. There hasn't been rain for several weeks, yet the entire area around every green was a muddy mosh pit because of how much it had been watered. There was no need for this.
If I play here again, I will either call and try to get a much earlier tee time or wait until later in the day when this group of "Blitz Men" are off the course.
This tee time should not even be posted by the course or if it is going to be there should be a notation by it alerting those interested that they may have an 8:20 tee time, but they will not be teeing off then and to be prepared to follow individuals who could care less about anyone but themselves.
Lots of water!!
A bit too much water for us! Apart from that we had a lovely experience (despite losing balls in the water hazards!!!). The pro shop were most helpful and very pleasant. Everyone we met both on and off the course very friendly.
Good test of golf
Good test of your golf game.one or two tees not too good but the rest of the course is in good condition.Service in the clubhouse excellent.
Excellent course !
Hidden inside Summerville is this great challenging course! First 9 holes are not forgiving so make sure to you can hit the fairways are else you’ll be having a long day. Greens are faster than they look, well maintained. My personal favorite is the back 9, with the Augusta styled narrow green being a perfect challenge. Hot deals here make the money the while. I’ve gotten away with 12$ hot deals here to 22$ being the most I paid for 18 holes on this course. Will be playing here regularly if the price point remains like this.
In between storms
Arrived just after a storm and was able to play 18 before the next ....was a single, but then hooked up with a sweet gentleman on the back nine for expediency. The course is challenging, lots of hills, water, eTc. Enjoyed very much
Lots of water
Great value for the money. The greens were fairly slow. Lots of water around the course.
Pure test of golf
This course will reveal your true skill level. Overall the conditions are good & the layout is better. Water on every hole. Lengthy target golf. Bring a gps or rangefinder. Only lacking aspect is distance markers. Especially on par 3 tee boxes.
Tough but fun
I like playing here. The staff is very friendly. The course can play different each time you play it. If it's wet, it's long, dry the ball rolls and rolls. The greens are challenging but fair.
I love the challenges of this course.
It's a challenge
Very well laid out course. It is very challenging. If you want to challenge yourself, this is the one. Water everywhere, read the course yardage book, and bring plenty of balls, including golf balls.
The layout is great
The tees were in good condition and the fairways were great and the greens were okay just had a few that needed some work. The problem I had was the pace of play. I was a single that played 14 or 15 holes behind a foursome that had no etiquette what so ever and no concern for fellow golfers they had the whole course backed up with all holes in front of them open course needed a ranger
Great Price / Challenging Course
If this course was maintained to its fullest potential it would be the nicest and hardest course in Summerville and one of the nicest courses in all of Charleston. Pine Forest is hit-or-miss. If we get rain here in Charleston then this course fairs well, if not it tends to dry out quickly. Greens currently are in good shape but need a little bit of work. I have seen much worse though. You cannot beat the daily special pricing and with that said while there are alot of great courses here in Charleston, Pine Forest is one of the most challenging courses and a great place to work on your game. You don't play this course to be impressed by the condition of the fairways or greens, you play this course to be challenged by all the elevated greens and water on evey hole, that by the way will eat your bag dry of balls!!! You play this course to improve your game...
Course is getting better
They need new range balls. Their 's are at least 2 to 3 yrs. Old. Then they need to mow the fairways they are way too slow. The layout is very challenging must hit God shots to score. Greens are getting better bedding to sped them up. Enjoyed the round will be back. Kevin B
Great layout terrible condition. There should never be a cloud of dust when your ball lands on the green.
