The Club at Pine Forest
About
The 18 semi-private holes at Pine Forest wind through the tall Summerville pines with numerous live oaks, dogwoods and a lake system thrown in for good measure. With an equal balance of straightaways, doglegs and elevation changes, this course is nicely balanced, with challenges and fun in store for golfers of all levels. Rental clubs and electric carts are available.
At 6,905 yards with a 138-slope rating, Pine Forest lives up to its name, as the course has numerous barriers of tall Summerville pines to cause problems for an errant shot. The Bob Spence design also makes use of water to add to the difficulty of some holes. It's a semi-private course, and they've named each hole, with No. 12 being known as "Little Augusta" while No. 15 is "Wastelands."

Very challenging course
Water Water Everywhere. Narrow fairways make this course very good. Course is a hidden gem.
Beautiful and challenging
First time playing the course, and my favorite part was the greens. The most undulating I think I've ever seen or played on. Not perfect conditions, but great for August and rolled nicely. Played Monday at 11 and there was no one out there. Could've easily played as a twosome in under 3 hours. Tough course, but beautiful and very interesting. Fantastic deal for the money it cost ($18 for 18 holes). Can't wait to play again--just hope my game is in better shape next time!
Nice layout with a good variety of holes. Friendly, laid-back staff. Excellent greens.
I would have given the course a higher overall rating, but playing conditions prevented this. The course was very, very wet (from both recent and on-going heavy summer rain events), which of course could not be helped. However, most of the sand traps were basically unplayable with little real sand in them and severe erosion problems in many as well. Also, a good GPS unit/phone app is essential, as there are several "blind" water hazards that jut out into fairways. That said, it is a very good layout with excellent bermuda greens. I would like to return some day and play it under dry, fast conditions.
Low Country Parkland
Really fun course. Makes you use most if not all your clubs.
I will pray here again.
This is a challenging course, nice scenery, friendly staff
used to be impossible
Now more of a moderate course. Still narrow and wet, but far less beaches. Well kept, few poor drainage areas found here in the low country. Fun to play. Good golf now availability.
Great Course!!!
I love playing this course. Great course for the money!
Great low country parkland golf course
Although the area has had above normal rainfall and it was cart path only the course was still in really good shape.
Waterlogged
The course looks beautiful but it was not fun to play. The course was filled with water which doesn't drain well so golf carts were not permitted on the fairway. I would consider playing this course but after the rainy season, regardless of the cost (which was low to begin with). The staff was friendly and I give them high marks for that.
Good price...good course
Only thing was greens were recently aerified so a little slow and there was an outing that I was behind, but other than that all good things.
great course
Despite the amount of rain we have had here in Summerville. The course is in excellent condition 90 degree rule which is absolutely exceptable I usually do that anyway. I will play there again and use golf now to book. Great deal very close to home.
Great course
Tough little course, with a lot of tough approach shots. Green have a good amount of slope but not unfair. Grass was pretty thick, including the tee boxes, throughout with the recent heavy rains. Best value in Charleston Area for the price.
Great Layout...overall good course for your money!
Let me prefice this review with the weather. The course was wet....almost everywhere. Rain has probably made the course in better condition from previous reviews, but overall the in good shape considering the amount of rain we've been getting. The grounds care folks hadn't been out in a while as evident in overgrown t-boxes, which by the way look like they needed some healing time anyways. The fairways were in really good shape with the exception of standing water in areas or highly saturated areas. The greens were in great shape....some dead area's but have been on worse in the past couple weeks. They rolled true and speeds were moderate. Overall, I will come back as I really enjoyed the course.
The course is some what challenging due to the water around it. Water is mostly in our heads anyway.
For the money I paid thru golfnow itwas well worth the money and they have a lot of specials of there on. We have had rain for 35 days in a row and some of these days were in in. Like 1 to3 in. in a day.So I think the course was in as good of shape as possible.
Great for the money.
Great choice for Charleston. One of the better courses around, challenging greens if your in the wrong spots.
always fun to play
Course is just gettting healed from punching the greens. A little slow but will be great in another week. Always a nice challenge. Need to be acurate off the tees to set up your approach shot.
Scenic, well kept course, with great layout
I was considering giving this 5 stars but some of the greens appear to be dead in spots, although it seems to becoming addressed. The layout of the course is very nice and each hole has a stone map built in on a brick wall. There are many conviently located water drinking stations which is a plus. Although I use sky caddy the course was also well marked with yardages on all sprinkler heads, signs for carry and layup distances. The traps and fairways are in great shape. You need accuracy to score your best here. A little bummed out that they did not have a pin sheet or a color coding system indicating the flag depth. Landing on the wrong plateau on the green will penalize you. Course has lots of undulations. Very pleased at the matenence, pace of play, cleanliness and the nice surrounding development. The course is located in a quiet section of Summerville and easy to get to. The rates for South Carolina residents on GOLFNOW (not even using hot deals) are the best of all the area courses. You need to play this more than once to know where best to hit is. Since the pace of play was great I took my time to drive up and see where best to hit it. I will definitely make this course a staple and highly recommend it to others. Will try the restaurant next time.
Greens need work
Everything on the course is in great condition except the greens on the front 9 and a couple on the back. The greens here have always been immaculate but the past year or so has been rough. Stopped playing here for that reason but if they can get the greens back to where they were in 2011, then this will again be one of my favorites courses in the charleston area.
Great course for the money
Great course for the money, will make it my go to course. Greens needed some repair but over all enjoyed the course.
