About
The 18 semi-private holes at Pine Forest wind through the tall Summerville pines with numerous live oaks, dogwoods and a lake system thrown in for good measure. With an equal balance of straightaways, doglegs and elevation changes, this course is nicely balanced, with challenges and fun in store for golfers of all levels. Rental clubs and electric carts are available.
At 6,905 yards with a 138-slope rating, Pine Forest lives up to its name, as the course has numerous barriers of tall Summerville pines to cause problems for an errant shot. The Bob Spence design also makes use of water to add to the difficulty of some holes. It's a semi-private course, and they've named each hole, with No. 12 being known as "Little Augusta" while No. 15 is "Wastelands."

Golfer Reviews
Extremely well maintained
I have played at quite a few courses in the south and I can say that this is one of the nicest I have played at. Very well maintained. I was very impressed with how great the course is. Very challenging. Actually caused me to shoot over 90, which does not happen too often anymore. Lots of water to swallow your ball if you don't play it right. Just overall a beautiful course.
Unique Layout But Poor Condition
Played on Mother's Day, so it was not crowded and they let the starter go home. Carts are electric and in good condition, but the cart paths were in very poor condition. Tee boxes were OK, but the fairways were rock hard so you could get a lot of roll. but sometimes too much and roll into one of the many water hazards. The greens were rough and not true. Lots of exposed tree roots that penalized lies. Bunkers need attention. Has a lot of potential, but it looks like there is no investment in improvements. Disappointing.
This was a great deal. Course is challenging, but fair.
This was a great deal. Course is challenging, but fair. Greens could use some work, but they ran true. Can't run up to the greens.
Very pleasing to the eye for the golfer.
Greens were a little rough to putt in a few cases. All in all, I would play it again sometime.
Nice Track, decent price.
Not a lot of bunkers, a number of holes with water, lateral hazards/ob's on most holes. Can only remember one non par 3 that was straight, everything else had some bend.
Interesting course, hit the ball straight, greens were a bit slow so there was not as much break as the read would indicate.
Would play again
Great layout
The course was very wet, but we had recieved lots of rain in the days before our round. The layout of the course was very challenging. Lots of water in tough locations.
Painfully slow....
Rangers need to do a better job at maintaining the pace of play. I played singular behind a 4 some, that took 3 hrs for 9 holes. I quit after the 9 holes due to the pace of play and not being granted a pass through.
It was a good course with some challenge, but the greens needed some work.
- Booking was convenient
- Price was good
- Personnel were friendly
- Course was challenging
- Greens were bumpy and were not true - need some work
Great Layout, greens are beat up, takes away from overal enjoyment
Really good value, great layout. Good mix of short, medium and long par 4's. Par 3's have nice variety, Par 5's also offer Risk/Reward. Greens are very sloping and feature multiple levels, problem is they are in lousy shape and putt very bumpy and slow.
If had good greens would be a TOP course
a bit more time
fairways were brown, greens were bumpy and inconsistent. the springtime grass is coming in in most spots but not all. it seems they are letting the grass grow before shaping it. overall acceptable knowing everyone else around them raised prices for the season more than pineforrest did.
Overall great value...
Greens need attention. It is the beginning of April, so it is somewhat understandable. The course has great personality and a great setup. Gives you the feeling of playing a 5 star course at the 3 star price. Great facility overall.
I love the design, great a challenging for all types of players. The greens were a little bumpy but kinda expected for this time of year.
Highly recommend to challenge every aspect of your game. Whether short game or accuracy you can definitely challenge your game on this course.
Beautiful setting, not very green
Pine Forest was the most expensive course I played in the area, but it wasn't the best cared for. It was ok, but the tee boxes were pretty beat up, the fairways were not green, and the greens weren't yet recovered from plugging.
Great layout with challenging elevated greens
The dryness of the winter has added considerable roll to this course. Add the water hazards on many holes, and it is easy to get in trouble. Now if you managed to avoid the hazards, you might think you are in pretty good shape...that is, until you see your gorgeous approach shot run off the green. The greens are multi-tiered in many cases providing a larger target. A really good approach shot is essential to scoring here, so pick a spot that you can hit your best approach from. Wind conditions here also make a huge impact. That being said, my group found the course fun and challenging. I definitely would not recommend this course for the average beginner. The group in front of us decided to play best ball for this reason, a very considerate move for us playing behind them. The restaurant is good and with a call as we walked off the 8th green, our food was ready on the turn.
Very challanging course.
Check in staff very accomodating, helpful and friendly. Course was in very good shape for this time of year. The course is very challenging with many elevated and well protected greens. Plenty of water hazards to steal your ball if you don't hit the fairways.
I would have benefited from a detailed map showing all water and hazards. I also would have liked a ranger to help speed up play and a refreshment cart.
I'm looking forward to playing this course again.
I liked this course -Good layout.
I liked this course. Played as a Single and didn't wait on anyone (that's the reason for the <3-1/2 round). Super nice staff.
I'm scoping possible courses to join if I move to Charleston. This course is now on my list of favorites.
nice course in a beautiful neighborhood. very challanging!
greens were in bad shape. fairways were ok. cant beat the hot rate on weekends.
Fun but course needs attention
Fun round. A large number of water hazards come into play. Greens were very spotty with a number of bald spots.
Good value now and should be better in summer.
Course is well layed out among trees and houses. Adjacent properties are positioned such that they veer away from lines of fire. No pictures on the scorecard, study the picture at each tee or maybe they have a yardage book that I did not get. Plenty of water requiring thoughtfull approaches. Several greens had water adjacent and a couple had front slopes to water. Playing end of January, fairways were mostly brown with litle nap and they were pretty dry. Some fairways had mogul like structure in places resulting in other than a flat lie. Most greens were very good and a few were in reasonable shape with some rough spots. Overall, the greens, like the fairways, had little nap. Some overseeding on greens was apparant. Greens were damp from recent watering. Puts were fast but seemed to roll true. Fairways should lush up once the weather warms. Pretty course overall with quite a few wading birds and turtles in ponds.
