About
Sterling Hills Golf Club sprawls across acres of lush countryside surrounded by avocado groves and citrus orchards. The layout winds through the verdant hills between Oxnard and Ventura. The club opened in 1999 as the only public golf course in Ventura County. The layout is player-friendly enough for beginners to still feel comfortable but it also packs a considerable amount of challenges. The versatile layout balances areas of wide-openness with target-style golf. There is contoured mounding along the fairways and some interesting elevation changes. Thanks to the hilly terrain, there is hardly a flat lie to be found. Although Sterling Hills is still relatively young, there are some mature eucalyptus trees throughout. Golfers can warm-up on the driving range, chipping area, or putting green before the game since a bucket of range balls is included with the round.

The course is fun to play. The greens had been punched over a week ago and wiere still a little bumpy.
Frustration at best.
The course was being worked on but there was nothing to that matter when tee time was done. It was very disappointing and nothing I could do since the tee time was prepaid. Attendant not even offer a resend. Front nine was closed and can only play yhe back nine. does golfnow give credit for this? can golfnow warnwd players of issue like this??!

Give Sterling Hills a great rating. The staff are friendly n helpful. The course is in very very good shape with nice fairways n ruff that makes you want to stay in the fairway but not overly penal for us mid to high handicappers. The sand is terrific if you ask me. Not super fluffy but it’s consistent, which makes it playable. The greens are fun! Challenging for sure and fast with enuf undulations n slopes to make you grind a little bit.
Good time! Will be back.

We play Sterling Hills regularly - great value! Course is in good condition following the recent rains
Food staff is terrible/lightning green speeds
Not sure why the greens are so fast right now. I thought I was playing at Kapalua! Unfortunately the staff in the food area is absolutely terrible! I called in my order from the 9th tee box as usual. Upon arrival, my order was completely wrong. Ordered fries and got chips(paid cash, not food token card) club sandwich didn't have bacon. Ordered a yellow Gatorade and told her 3 times at the pick up window and received orange. Took 10 min to get my food. Lost position in my round because the golfers behind us didn't want to wait that long. I don't blame them. I golf here often. This is just poor highering by management!!

Cool course to play. You can make it as long as you want with a lot of different tee choices. Playing with my wife and she was super happy with the red tees and the distances appropriate for medium level woman golfer or even kid that plays well. Bunkers could use work (some in great shape and others lacking but I struggle in the sand so I can’t blame the course for my ineptitude). I’m not from here so not sure what is expected for grass in fairways in late January. If not playing up in fairway, you could get some unfair lies but those of us who are not on a tour can move it a few inches and the lie was just fine. As Judge Smells would say… yes, winter rules and all. Captain Kirk the starter was extremely nice and helpful with course tips. Nice that the round came with free drink. Will be going back and trying to get my revenge on the course as there are places on greens you do not want to be, lot of 3 putts.
First Timer
Very nice course, the staff was very friendly all the way around. They do need marshaling to keep pace of play. I know on the weekend but when you backup 4 groups because of one group you need to help along. The fairways were in great condition for wu tee, greens very fast. Will play again
