About
Sterling Hills Golf Club sprawls across acres of lush countryside surrounded by avocado groves and citrus orchards. The layout winds through the verdant hills between Oxnard and Ventura. The club opened in 1999 as the only public golf course in Ventura County. The layout is player-friendly enough for beginners to still feel comfortable but it also packs a considerable amount of challenges. The versatile layout balances areas of wide-openness with target-style golf. There is contoured mounding along the fairways and some interesting elevation changes. Thanks to the hilly terrain, there is hardly a flat lie to be found. Although Sterling Hills is still relatively young, there are some mature eucalyptus trees throughout. Golfers can warm-up on the driving range, chipping area, or putting green before the game since a bucket of range balls is included with the round.

Fun day of golf
It was a fun day of golf. The green were very challenging and pin placement was unforgiving. The employees were extremely friendly making it a wonderful day. Sadly the grill and bar is not very comfortable or welcoming. It’s a stale metal corner bar without TVs for sports. It could use a warming up. After golf Saturday at 5:30pm would be the perfect time for a relaxing cocktail but the sterile pub grill wasn’t very enticing.

Great course, short, fun
The course is a lot of fun and in great shape. We don't mind paying $10 more to get lunch and a small bucket of range balls.
The ball washers are frequently not filled with water.
The restaurant is efficient. Staff are very friendly and courteous.

Wet but fine
Huge, tricky greens the main feature of this one. Not too tough from the white tees but you can have some very long, tough putts on almost every hole

Best course in area
I’m a member an play every Monday. Love the course it’s close to my house. I believe it’s the best public course in the area. The carts need to be replaced. Tee boxes are not always level but okay. Staff is great. Ownership seems to be improving the course all of the time. Much better than the old owner. Thanks

The staff was very accommodating as we were slightly late. Course was quite wet, cart path only which is understandable. Course was in good shape. I wish people would fix their ball marks!

Not good
They used to include the cart with hot deal. All of a sudden they aren’t… well I didn’t know and I had to pay extra $16. Trust me…. This place is not worth that money. Pace was slow and there wer no Marshall. If you want to charge premium price, please be a premium club.

Decent deal, decent course.
It's been raining, so the course was wetter than normal; hence, not much roll out, and mud. Per our experienced playing partner, the conditions weren't typical.
It's a pretty good deal, with warm up balls and a sandwich included. I'm just not a big enough fan of the layout to want to drive an hour to go back. There are some pretty tricked out greens, but it was mostly fair, and the greens ran true.
Staff was great. Call in your food order on the 8th tee, as it took a while to get it when ordering in person.

Good course!
Definitely getting value for your buck here! Each round comes with a small bucket of range balls and a lunch ticket. The course itself is improving, as it had some patchy areas a year ago. Great friendly staff. You won’t be disappointed!- Big Al

Needs work but ok.
Decent course about a 5 out of 10, I play here when I'm in CA about every 6 weeks, staff is awesome. Course needs some work but is ok. If I had 1 wish I'd want the F$*#&ing ditch on 9 to have a pipe installed and covered up, It's a dumb hazard and unnecessary. And 18 could be a nicer finish hole approach but whatever. I'll play it again of course. It's enjoyable.
