About
Sterling Hills Golf Club sprawls across acres of lush countryside surrounded by avocado groves and citrus orchards. The layout winds through the verdant hills between Oxnard and Ventura. The club opened in 1999 as the only public golf course in Ventura County. The layout is player-friendly enough for beginners to still feel comfortable but it also packs a considerable amount of challenges. The versatile layout balances areas of wide-openness with target-style golf. There is contoured mounding along the fairways and some interesting elevation changes. Thanks to the hilly terrain, there is hardly a flat lie to be found. Although Sterling Hills is still relatively young, there are some mature eucalyptus trees throughout. Golfers can warm-up on the driving range, chipping area, or putting green before the game since a bucket of range balls is included with the round.

Great!!!
I have NEVER seen this course in such great shape especially the greens!!!! Kudos to the maintenance crew!!!! Keep it up guys n gals excuisite shape!!!! Balls rolling true for the first time ever!!!! Fairways also in the best shape I've ever seen them playing here for 20 years or so. The staff whether in the clubhouse, out on the course, or in the snack bar area we're very cordial as well!!!

Pro shop & starter very friendly. Lunch generally included with green fees. Restaurant is always good, call @ 8th Tee & order food, it will be ready as you begin the journey in! Great layout and fairways & greens always in good shape. Look forward to my monthly visits here!

I love this course and for the cooler weather condition in the summer!

Current Conditions at Sterling
Sterling is usually a nice round for me, if the pace of play is ok, and today it was fine. Foursome played in just over 4 hrs. Weather always nice in Camarillo, with nice views. Current Conditions are pretty good. The kikuyu grass has its usual challenges. Fairways are spotty. You might want to play preferred lies with your buddies. The best part of Sterling lately is the greens. They roll nice and true. Some of the best of the public courses in Socal.

Sterling hills
I think your fees are too expensive. Don’t include the lunch and reduce it to $45-50 comparable to others in the area. $20 fir a chicken sandwich is too much.

Sterling Hills
This course used to be very nice. Now it's hard a rock and it looks like they are experiencing problems with the irrigation system (very wet spots surrounded by dry). They tore up their putting green to use the area for weddings and replaced it with a new putting area with sod that was cannibalized from other areas on the course and the ball will hardly roll on it. Combine that with the dry playing conditions, probably caused by the "enlightened" policies of our idiot of a governor, and you can't but help feel that you didn't get your money's worth.

Disappointed
Tee boxes were rough , lots of brown areas in the fairway, green’s we’re good but lot’s of unrepaired divot’s. Sand traps were mostly dirt

Getting better
It's been over a year since we have played Sterling Hills and we were all quite impressed with the improvements that have been made to the clubhouse, range and course.
Kudos to the owners/managers for their investments, which are paying dividends to the players.
