About
Sterling Hills Golf Club sprawls across acres of lush countryside surrounded by avocado groves and citrus orchards. The layout winds through the verdant hills between Oxnard and Ventura. The club opened in 1999 as the only public golf course in Ventura County. The layout is player-friendly enough for beginners to still feel comfortable but it also packs a considerable amount of challenges. The versatile layout balances areas of wide-openness with target-style golf. There is contoured mounding along the fairways and some interesting elevation changes. Thanks to the hilly terrain, there is hardly a flat lie to be found. Although Sterling Hills is still relatively young, there are some mature eucalyptus trees throughout. Golfers can warm-up on the driving range, chipping area, or putting green before the game since a bucket of range balls is included with the round.

Sterling Hills
This course used to be very nice. Now it's hard a rock and it looks like they are experiencing problems with the irrigation system (very wet spots surrounded by dry). They tore up their putting green to use the area for weddings and replaced it with a new putting area with sod that was cannibalized from other areas on the course and the ball will hardly roll on it. Combine that with the dry playing conditions, probably caused by the "enlightened" policies of our idiot of a governor, and you can't but help feel that you didn't get your money's worth.

Disappointed
Tee boxes were rough , lots of brown areas in the fairway, green’s we’re good but lot’s of unrepaired divot’s. Sand traps were mostly dirt

Solid course and in better shape than I played a couple years ago. More than fair layout and plenty of tees to choose from.

Getting better
It's been over a year since we have played Sterling Hills and we were all quite impressed with the improvements that have been made to the clubhouse, range and course.
Kudos to the owners/managers for their investments, which are paying dividends to the players.
A great value for the experience and we plan to return again soon...

We really enjoyed our round. We will be back. I used GolfNow for tee time and didn't notice that the golf cart was not included.
This was my first experience using Golf Now and Golf cart included. I felt $16 per person for cart rental was too much.

Sparks
I like this course for its fun layout and proximity to my house, so I always try to get out in the afternoon. My only gripe is that on one Thursday of the month, they have a mini tournament teeing off from 10th hole at 5 PM. When you have an afternoon tee time, hoping to finish the round taking advantage of daylight, this brings your round to a complete stop, and the pace of play moves at a glacier’s pace to the point I call it a day. I would think that at 5 PM, since not too many people would tee off, they would start from #1 tee, rather than from #10 so people who teed off earlier can finish the round.

Sterling Hills
Nice course but too expensive with the lunch. Don’t appreciate $20 for a hot dog. Just charge a fair price without lunch or make it more reasonable with lunch. $61 is a bit much.

Great friendly staff and fun layout
My 1st time here Not sure why it took me so long to play here but glad i did. Great friendly staff, clean nice pro shop and clubhouse. Course isnt long but fun and challenging. Course has country club vibe and feel. Greens and fairways were in ok condition.

Great Layout (except for #12)
I always like this course’s wide variety of holes, except for #12. Take a bulldozer to the green or put a windmill and clown nose on it. HOWEVER I still love to play here!

Sterling Hills
Great layout, greens are in excellent shape. Fairways and rough areas have some dry patches but overall in good condition. The issue really is the bunkers. Very little sand, hard-packed infield dirt junk. Hard to properly get under the ball especially in green side bunkers. If they fix the issue by adding some fluffy golf sand this course will have very few flaws
