About
Sterling Hills Golf Club sprawls across acres of lush countryside surrounded by avocado groves and citrus orchards. The layout winds through the verdant hills between Oxnard and Ventura. The club opened in 1999 as the only public golf course in Ventura County. The layout is player-friendly enough for beginners to still feel comfortable but it also packs a considerable amount of challenges. The versatile layout balances areas of wide-openness with target-style golf. There is contoured mounding along the fairways and some interesting elevation changes. Thanks to the hilly terrain, there is hardly a flat lie to be found. Although Sterling Hills is still relatively young, there are some mature eucalyptus trees throughout. Golfers can warm-up on the driving range, chipping area, or putting green before the game since a bucket of range balls is included with the round.

Great course; Great value
Sterling Hills is becoming one of my favorite courses in my area. The course is always in good to very good condition. Pace of play is typically very good. For the most part, the staff in the snack shop/bar are great. In particular, the on course staff (course Marshals) are always very helpful and super friendly.
During check in for our round on 5/16/21, the gentleman at the starter window was fairly rude to our group. Since that wasn't our normal experience, I just chalk it up to a him having "bad day".
All in all, I love the course and will continue to play when I can.

Nice course for the money. I am 70 years old and it fits me fine. My only complaint was the waiting-not acceptable. I took us an hour to play the 10th and 11th holes!!!!! I proceeded to leave the course. So you judge for yourself, The staff was great and to the person who found my wallet. Thank you

Solid course, enjoyed my round
Fun course. Nothing crazy design wise but still a good time. Greens were in good shape and challenging. Great value if you are in the area

Nice course
This is a nice course. However there seemed to be some issues with sewage leaks on several of the holes, so there were quite a few areas with smelly wetness and puddles. The practice cannot accommodate many people.

Good... but
The greens are in great shape, but the fairways are uneven and dodgy.
Many hard pan areas adjacent to cart paths.
The value is pretty good as they give you a small bucket of range balls and a free lunch.
The food is good but the restaurant is understaffed.
All in all a good value but wish they would get the fairways up to par.

Hey, Much better Customer Service this time! Course shaping up for Spring!
Had a great round at Sterling Hills this weekend. Went there as a single. Paired with a group that had to quit, and then starter/marshall went out of their way to make the rest of the day a good one for me. So kudos on the customer service. Meanwhile, the course is rounding into shape for Spring. Greens are coming back nicely from punching. They putt true and relatively fast, compared to the current state of many other local courses. Fairways a little rough, but as usual nice weather and surroundings. Always enjoy coming to Sterling Hills.

rude customer service
the person who was at the counter for checking
in was rude and hyper acting. then while warming up on the driving range he raises his voice to the golfer next to me that he can't hit the balls that the prior person left early to play his round. ....very weird.

Yikes! Be careful of carts!!
Warning! Be careful of the carts at Sterling. I returned one in which the brakes just did not work sometimes.And, the accelerator stuck twice. Also, on the replacement the "parking brake" -- "might" be on, and maybe not!
Tee boxes were pretty beat up also.

Good Choice, North of the City
Always enjoy Sterling HIlls, with a few minor qualms. The deals with carts are pretty good, when you can get them. There is also heavy member play here, so they don't sell that many public times. The pace of play is usually quite good. It's a bit hilly, so if you're walking, hopefully you are in decent shape. The layout is nice, moderate length, Not a giant challenge for a low handicap, but plenty of variety, and nice views, along with typically perfect weather. I almost always have some minor quibble with the pro shop people upon check-in. Always leaves me with a less than nice feeling. Not sure what their trip is, but bring your actual reservation data with you if you pre-pay, so you can avoid hassle. The greens are typically very good, although recently aerated (like everywhere in Spring). The fairways are good but not great. Dormant in winter (again like many places). I like coming here intermittently, but not regularly, partly because of the weirdness in the pro shop, and the lack of good tee-times.
