About
Sterling Hills Golf Club sprawls across acres of lush countryside surrounded by avocado groves and citrus orchards. The layout winds through the verdant hills between Oxnard and Ventura. The club opened in 1999 as the only public golf course in Ventura County. The layout is player-friendly enough for beginners to still feel comfortable but it also packs a considerable amount of challenges. The versatile layout balances areas of wide-openness with target-style golf. There is contoured mounding along the fairways and some interesting elevation changes. Thanks to the hilly terrain, there is hardly a flat lie to be found. Although Sterling Hills is still relatively young, there are some mature eucalyptus trees throughout. Golfers can warm-up on the driving range, chipping area, or putting green before the game since a bucket of range balls is included with the round.

LOVED THE GOLF AND THE THREE GENTLEMEN I PLAYED WITH.
GOLF COURSE WAS IN DECENT SHAPE. MY ONLY COMPLAINT IS WHILE I WAS ENJOYING MY ROUND OF GOLF , SOME INDIVIDULAL/INDIVIDUALS DECIDED TO STEAL MY TRUCK FROM THE PARKING LOT QUITE CLOSE TO THE PRO SHOP. I NOTICED IT AND I REPORTED IT TO THE STAFF IN THE PRO SHOP;I ASKED IF THERE WERE ANY CAMERAS AND TO MY SURPRISE HE INFORMED ME THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE CAMERAS. FOIND MY DOOR LOCK DRILLED OUT AND THE PARTS WERE EVERYWHERE AT MY DOOR. THEY OBVIOUSLY COULD NOT GET INSIDE THE CAB, WHY I DONT KNOW. TIME FOR SOME SECURITY TO PROTECT YOUR CLIENTELE AND THIER PERSONAL PROPERTY FROM PREDATORS, THAT WE ARE ALL TO FAMILIAR TO US ALL.

One of the most fun courses I’ve played in a long time.
Don’t let the length or lack there of fool you.
The first hole lulls you into a false sense of security thinking this is going to be your typical muni. You get past the first hole and then it takes off!
Almost every shot is risk-reward. Miss a fairway and there’s trouble. Approach a green from a wrong angle, more trouble. The greens are slick, most are tired and undulating. I hit my usual number of greens, but 3- putted a ton. Memo to self, being below the hole truly means something here.
A handful of tee boxes make you ponder “driver or 5 iron”. Every enticement of being in a fantastic spot also presents problems if you’re off your mark by amore than a few degrees.
If you can draw the ball at will, you’ll need to. If you fade the ball at will, you’ll need to do that too. Hit a stinger... yep, you’ll need that shot in your bag in certain places.
Very rarely do you find a course where you’ll be glad to have all 14 clubs in your bag. This is one of those courses.
All in the mid-afternoon was $33 for green fees, $15 for a cart, and they throw in range balls and a drink - beer included.
Really a ton of fun!
Great value even though the fairways and tee boxes are not what you’d call “pristine”. But for under $50...awesome!
I live an hour and 45 minutes away (Huntington Beach) played there to meet friends from Santa Clarita. I’d make that drive gladly again to play here.

Best Value Golf
The complimentary breakfast burrito and small bucket of balls that comes with a very reasonable green fee for a nice course makes Sterling Hills the best value golf for my money!

good public course
This place has tons of potential, however in its current state this will never be better then a average public course. There are huge dirt sections between the tee box and fairways on over half the holes. It's a fun course, I would go here again but I wouldn't pay full price that's for sure.

Windy Winter Day - Still Had Fun
Great course overall and despite the wet, cold, and windy conditions the staff and groundskeepers made sure we had a good round of golf. Free range balls and lunch included with the round, can't beat that!

Lots Of Potential
The course has a great layout, might even be better than the Saticoy Club a few miles away in terms of layout alone. While the conditions have undoubtedly improved in the last year, the fairways are still very patchy, with the greens being thê strong point. Great course nonetheless and definitely will play again.

Classic course
I played Sterling Hills for the first time. I found this course to be challenging and welcoming. During these Covid times golf has been a great outlet. Checking in at the Proshop was a breeze and quick, we got there early to hit balls on the range for a nice warm up, when it was time to tee off we were easily directed to the first tee where the course marshall was their to greet us and move us along. Pace of play was great, and the course itself had many fun challenges. Can't wait to go back.

Great morning round !
Course was in great shape. I just wish people would fix their pitch marks on the greens. I turned in at least 3 on every green to try and help the effort ;-)
