About
Sterling Hills Golf Club sprawls across acres of lush countryside surrounded by avocado groves and citrus orchards. The layout winds through the verdant hills between Oxnard and Ventura. The club opened in 1999 as the only public golf course in Ventura County. The layout is player-friendly enough for beginners to still feel comfortable but it also packs a considerable amount of challenges. The versatile layout balances areas of wide-openness with target-style golf. There is contoured mounding along the fairways and some interesting elevation changes. Thanks to the hilly terrain, there is hardly a flat lie to be found. Although Sterling Hills is still relatively young, there are some mature eucalyptus trees throughout. Golfers can warm-up on the driving range, chipping area, or putting green before the game since a bucket of range balls is included with the round.

Fun Course
First time playing this course and a friend and I were paired up with another "Golf Now" 2-some. It was good company and we had a good time.
The layout is challenging with a few holes that demand a premium tee shot to avoid a penalty stroke due to OB or water hazard. The other holes have ample room for strayed balls off the tee. The fairways were in decent shape for wintertime.
The greens were recently punched but were challenging and still had ample speed. Pin locations were reasonably located and placed a premium on your approach shot to be on the proper level to make birdies or save par.
Bunkers were fantastic with ample sand to play a proper shot. It seems, due to COVID, a lot of courses have neglected the bunkers which was not the case with Sterling Hills. Rakes were not available on the course, but it seemed like the groundskeeper did a great job of preparing the bunkers prior to the start of the day.
The pace of play wasn't too bad. We finished our round 4hr 13min.
I look forward to playing this course again in the future.
There was more sand on the greens than grass

Great value
Course played great. Greens were punched a couple weeks ago but were rolling really nice. Fairways were in good shape and the rough was only bad in curtain spots. I would be down to make the drive from LA to play again.

2nd time playing here. Weather was perfect, I wish my play was. "Great shot - down the middle" was never said. Anytime I'm playing golf its great.

Getting Better
This course is looking better everyday. The maintenance and upgrades are making a huge difference. New sod, new sand, and the greens are rolling true. Please fix your divots!

Nice Sunday
This course has a nice layout, it is both fair and interesting, with several tee boxes to accommodate both longer hitters and shorter hitters.. I would not call this a flat course, there are lots of undulations and slopes to the fairways. On the day we played, several fairways had large areas that were under repair and off limits, but hey, you have to do maintenance sometime. I would recommend getting an electric cart if you can, as this is more of a resort layout where it takes a while to walk from the green to the next tee. We played mid-day Sunday and pace of play was very good, we finished our round in a bit over four hours. Staff was very friendly and informative at check-in, to first-time visitors..
