About
Sterling Hills Golf Club sprawls across acres of lush countryside surrounded by avocado groves and citrus orchards. The layout winds through the verdant hills between Oxnard and Ventura. The club opened in 1999 as the only public golf course in Ventura County. The layout is player-friendly enough for beginners to still feel comfortable but it also packs a considerable amount of challenges. The versatile layout balances areas of wide-openness with target-style golf. There is contoured mounding along the fairways and some interesting elevation changes. Thanks to the hilly terrain, there is hardly a flat lie to be found. Although Sterling Hills is still relatively young, there are some mature eucalyptus trees throughout. Golfers can warm-up on the driving range, chipping area, or putting green before the game since a bucket of range balls is included with the round.

Golfer Reviews
Yikes! Be careful of carts!!
Warning! Be careful of the carts at Sterling. I returned one in which the brakes just did not work sometimes. And, the accelerator stuck twice. Also, on the replacement the "parking brake" -- "might" be on, and maybe not!
Tee boxes were pretty beat up also.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass on your feedback to the teams in charge so they can work to make changes. Thanks for visiting Sterling Hills Golf Club. We hope to see you again in the future.
Good Choice, North of the City
Always enjoy Sterling HIlls, with a few minor qualms. The deals with carts are pretty good, when you can get them. There is also heavy member play here, so they don't sell that many public times. The pace of play is usually quite good. It's a bit hilly, so if you're walking, hopefully you are in decent shape. The layout is nice, moderate length, Not a giant challenge for a low handicap, but plenty of variety, and nice views, along with typically perfect weather. I almost always have some minor quibble with the pro shop people upon check-in. Always leaves me with a less than nice feeling. Not sure what their trip is, but bring your actual reservation data with you if you pre-pay, so you can avoid hassle. The greens are typically very good, although recently aerated (like everywhere in Spring). The fairways are good but not great. Dormant in winter (again like many places). I like coming here intermittently, but not regularly, partly because of the weirdness in the pro shop, and the lack of good tee-times.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. Thank you for the 4 stars! We aim for a 5-star experience, so we always welcome feedback for improvement. Thank you for playing Sterling Hills Golf Club.

Love hate the water hazards
You can always count on great weather in Camarillo, nice day to enjoy friends and relax. Pace of play was good until we backed up on hole 11. So we just kicked back and took our time. Can’t beat the weather. Water holes are always looming but not impossible for and intermediate golfer like myself.
You can tell that Sterling Hills is trying to make the course better.
Thank you for your kind words! We hope to see you again at the course very soon for another 5-star experience. Thanks for choosing Sterling Hills Golf Club.

Interesting layout
Fairways and greens punched with sand on putting greens which makes for horrible golf. No heads up about conditions before booking reservations. Course is fun and interesting nonetheless. Greens are small and fairways need a good mowing.
Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are sorry to see that your overall experience was anything short of 5 stars, but we hope you'll give us another try in the near future. Thanks for choosing Sterling Hills Golf Club.

Maintenance
A more vigorous fertility plan needed on fairways and rough. Greens were aerified so no comment. Getting better but more intensity and detail needed.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass on your feedback to the team. Thanks for visiting Sterling Hills Golf Club, and we hope to see you again in the future.
Sand - Sand and more sand
Should you get a $$$ break if all 18 greens are aerated and sandy? Some dry fast sand, other wet slow sand - putting was difficult at best.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We work hard to maintain the course for everyone's benefit, which means aerifying the greens as part of our regular maintenance schedule. The greens will be healed soon and in pristine condition. Please come back soon for the 5-star experience you expect at Sterling Hills Golf Club.
