About
Sterling Hills Golf Club sprawls across acres of lush countryside surrounded by avocado groves and citrus orchards. The layout winds through the verdant hills between Oxnard and Ventura. The club opened in 1999 as the only public golf course in Ventura County. The layout is player-friendly enough for beginners to still feel comfortable but it also packs a considerable amount of challenges. The versatile layout balances areas of wide-openness with target-style golf. There is contoured mounding along the fairways and some interesting elevation changes. Thanks to the hilly terrain, there is hardly a flat lie to be found. Although Sterling Hills is still relatively young, there are some mature eucalyptus trees throughout. Golfers can warm-up on the driving range, chipping area, or putting green before the game since a bucket of range balls is included with the round.

Good layout, overplayed
This course could be really good. Unfortunately the traffic is too high, and the price attracts non-golfers who really should be on the range not the course. Adding a marshall to try and keep play moving along would help a lot.

Challenging Course
This was our first time playing and we found the course challenging and interesting with lots of water and sand traps. My husband chose to walk it after reviewing the website which showed the various holes similar to a links course but in reality that was not the case. There are long distances between holes particularly 9 and 10. The signage was also not adequate. My husband clocked 18000 steps and said he would not have elected to walk if he was told this before hand. He did ask in the pro shop and they said walking was fine. Also the Club was offering free range balls with a paid admission but did not considerate us in this category because we got a deal. Also, some of the fairways were not in great shape and needed watering. Other than these issues, it was a fun course to play.

Disappointment
have played many courses in ventiura county i just don't understand why they can't do better job maintaining course.

Not a great walking course
I have seen the course in better condition. Fairways are green, greens are soft, and sand traps are loose.

Course was wet and muddy greens fair condition u need to take care of the seniors golfers with the prices and nobody needs a sandwich let people buy one if they want should not be included with the price lower prices and offer senior discounts

Good course
Sterling is pretty flexible, and has managed to be efficient Re COVID.

Course keeps getting better
Ive played this course in many different shapes. This is the best its been in a long time. The new owners are really trying to produce the quality of course that is should be. Im sure over time the more expensive items such as golf carts will be upgraded but for now they work just fine. I will be playing here two more time in the coming weeks.
