About
Sterling Hills Golf Club sprawls across acres of lush countryside surrounded by avocado groves and citrus orchards. The layout winds through the verdant hills between Oxnard and Ventura. The club opened in 1999 as the only public golf course in Ventura County. The layout is player-friendly enough for beginners to still feel comfortable but it also packs a considerable amount of challenges. The versatile layout balances areas of wide-openness with target-style golf. There is contoured mounding along the fairways and some interesting elevation changes. Thanks to the hilly terrain, there is hardly a flat lie to be found. Although Sterling Hills is still relatively young, there are some mature eucalyptus trees throughout. Golfers can warm-up on the driving range, chipping area, or putting green before the game since a bucket of range balls is included with the round.

Poor value
I play this course all the time and pay MUCH less. Not to mention, the course is experiencing problems with their watering system and is extremely dry. Shouldn't have had to pay almost double for a week-end, late in the day rate. Not happy. Only reason I played is I had a brother-in-law in town and he wanted to play. I made the mistake of using Golf Now so I couldn't even look for a better rate somewhere else without losing the payment.
Fairways in sad condition
all of the fairways are lacking in water
all brown and hard, not good shape !

Pace of play
Let’s start out that the course was a in pretty good condition. Staff was cool and facilities are clean. On a Wed it took me almost 5 hours to play 18 holes which is insane. Other than that a solid course to play

perfect morning!
We were a foursome Teed of at 6:15 am.. Walked right through the course in a hair over 4 hours. The course is in great shape. A few tee boxes are chewed up a bit but its all good!
$18 cart fee
This is another course that raised their rates after covid. They knew the tee sheet would be busier than ever,but they raised the rates anyway. It's simple greed. Before covid you could get this course on golfnow.com for $17 - 25 with a cart. Now it's $18 JUST for a cart. Probably $70 during the WEEK. The fairways have been lost to the high salt level, they used to have good fairways but they're gone.
Great value!
My first time playing Sterling Hills and the fairways and greens are in amazing shape. I mostly play in the north Orange County area where I live, so to play on a such well-manicured course for a reasonable price was a delight! I will definitely come out here to play this course again.
Great course.
Course is very well maintained. I liked the variety of different kinds of holes from long par 5 to short par 3 holes. Pace of play was great. I was done with the course in less than 4 hours.
Pace of play is becoming a problem
I play here almost every other week. Is a great course and the cooler weather during the summer months makes it quite enjoyable. Unfortunately the pace of play has been deteriorating over the last few months. Not sure why. This last time our it took us 5 hours and 20 minutes. They should have a marshal going around and moving people along.
High marks all around
Truly a real value in every category. Fascilities are top notch. The staff are very professional , knowledgeable and warm. The range was conveniently located across from the pro shop. Course was fair and challenging. A great day !!!
Great for the rec golfer
They even have drink or food tickets for the turn whenever you purchase a full round. Very walkable course. Course will make you work your whole bag.

TJ golfing again
Course was in ok shape. Greens fast. Too many pitch marks left in repaired…….shameful.

Excellent time
My wife and I tend to play on Mondays, flow moves good with no wait time. I have been to most of the course in Ventura Co. and by far this is on my top list. Love playing here.. Was able to hook up with Joey, golf instructor and his wife. besides some amazing tips, just had a great time. Course is definitely flat with undulations and hazards that make u have to be on you game. I'm not great, about a 25 handicap but course is challenging to make u think.
