Horribly kept and construction
It’s always something with this course. First they shut down holes for renovation. Then green treatment. I don’t think I’ve ever played when this course wasn’t doing something to the greens. How is it fun to play aerated greens constantly? Not to mention the course is in terrible shape. Your ball goes 1 inch too far left it’s in the rough, and you don’t find it. The rough is extremely poorly kept (up to your shins sometimes) and even the fairways are a nightmare! There were times during my last round where I’d hit a ball a bit into the rough or even in the fairway, and you’d spend five minutes just searching for your ball. If you were lucky enough you’d MAYBE find your ball. They need to step it up.
5 Stars for clubhouse staff, 1 Star for course conditions
I have been trying to get out and play this course for a while as I just moved into the area of this course (6 min away) and my old course is now about 25-35 mins away.
I saw that I could grab the first tee time 0700 hrs on a Monday morning for 18 before work later that day 1300hrs. Im under no isslusions that I am a good golfer! That said, I typically shoot 110 on my home course (31HCP) and 115-120 for new courses. It typically takes me about 2 3/4 - 3 hours to play 18 ( Par 71, 6467yrds, 132 slope).
This course took me 41/2 hours to get through, I lost 2 boxes of balls, and had I not been having a good day with my driver and fairway woods I would have had to quit early for fear of being late for work. The first tee shot was a dead center down the middle of the fairway 220yrs. Nothing crazy but typically I never stripe it down the middle for the first shot. well it land and I move up to check out my next shot. as I approach I realize I can't see my ball anywhere. Very odd considering I had it landing dead center of the fairway. I realize as I look more closely the reason is due to the fact that the grass on the fairway is not cut at all and appears to not have been cut for the last week or more. There was literally no difference between the grass in the fairway and the grass as the rough other than the color. It ended up being like this on every hole for the entire course!!
The second issue came as I was trying to hit out of the uncut fairway up to the green. as I went to hit my 5 iron in 184 yards the abundance of grass made good contact with the ball extremely difficult and the shot flew hitting the green perfectly only to go rolling off because of no ability to get spin on the ball... very frustrating to say the least.
After moving up and realizing my ball had hit and rolled off the back and out of bounds the search begins. Every hole on this course has an abyss of thorn bushes, a layer of leaves and small underbrush with sticks and vines that make it IMPOSSIBLE!!! to find a ball that goes even 1 ft past the grass line. Thus began the process of losing 24 balls over the entire round and not finding a single one to replace the lost which typically I end up at least net zero.
The final issue and probably the most frustrating of them all was the conditions of the greens. Now this is a public course and I definitely get that there are not going to be perfectly manicured greens. The greens looked like someone had come out and had a chipping contest on all of them with the objective being who could take the longest & deepest divot while being close to where the next pin locations would be.... Just about very hole location was guarded by mini divot marks acting as perfect putt diversion dips easily funneling your putt away form its perfect line and pushing you to wards a dreaded 4 putt. I have spent countless hours and dollars on getting to a position where I only every 2 putt.
I really wanted to like this course because of its proximity and price. Sadly I will never be going back as it is just not going to be worth the 36 charged to play here. The clubhouse staff is very friendly though.
Great $35 value!
Perfect course to just get out and walk 18. Course was decent, not great. Sailed through front nine, and then waited almost every hole on back. Really enjoyed it because I didn’t get a cart.
This course is good practice
Course does not drain well, but can be used for practice for more serious players. Easy to walk and has a decent combination of holes to keep you on your toes.
The fairways were rough
The fairways were really overgrown and the putting greens had dead patches all over
Just Ok
greens were in bad shape, but we are in the winter month.
Staff and course conditions
The staff there is overly strict. Jeanie might be the most annoying starter I’ve dealt with. She has that fake nice, big attitude vibe. I’ve had to deal with her and her BS twice now. I wish she would say and do less.
The course is consistently wet and swampy. They need to put more rocks or grass down and cut some trees. Whoever is in charge of water irrigation plans and landscaping is clearly bad at their job.
If they hired some nicer people and a better groundskeeper there is potential to be had. A challenging course with good distances. But it needs serious work. Won’t be going back there with the other, better options in the area.
Rookie Golfer. Great Experience.
Nice course and great staff. Only played the front 9, but was manageable for a rookie (6months) and challenge bough for more experienced players. Will def be back.
Golf now Vs. walk-in
I’ve reserved through Golf now & paid in full. When I checked in, the staff have said that the carts not included when I purchased through Golf now.
So I had pay separately for the carts, I’ve thought that everything was included.
Next time I wouldn’t reserve tee-time with them. I rather golf other courses where the green-fee & cart is combined.
Pace of Play & Price
Pace of play was extremely slow due to carts staying on cart path. Foursome playing in front of us took too long to play each hole, which caused backup in our play & the groups behind us. We weren’t able to complete our round before dark.
Price was more than the course price. Twilight rates (tee times after 2 PM) at the course are $8 cheaper per person than using the GolfNow app to book tee time.
Avoid at all costs
I first want to say that I have played this course many times, it is an easy, accessible, cheap course. But this place is just going downhill. Our tee time was at 3pm on Saturday and it took almost 3 hours to play 9 holes. Marshall was there but doing nothing to push the pace of play.
In addition to this they course was in VERY bad shape. They even had a hole closed for repairs. If i were you I would pony up the extra $$$ and go play somewhere else.
Greendale is not worth it.
Not bad.
Tee boxes are a little rough. And one hole is closed entirely. Overall the course is in decent shape. Staff is very friendly.
Ready set terrible
I would put this course in top 10 worse muni courses in Virginia. First off the pace of play here is the worst I’ve ever seen, it took me 2 and half hours just to get through 9 holes. Next you have the tee boxes which look like they haven’t had grass on them in years. Then you got the fairways that your either playing out of 6 inches of grass or there is no grass at all. Greens never rolled clearly. Literally have places with no grass on the greens. Fairfax county should cut there loses and sell the land to housing developers cause unless they plan on fixing the whole place there is no reason anyone should spend any money on this course.
Terrible Greens
Greens were banged up. Could not even play 14th hole because it was so overgrown/bare. Very inconsistent.
Fairways in decent shape, Tee boxes were overgrown and not mowed. I liked the course layout as it was my first time playing here.
