The Gauntlet Golf Club
About
The Gauntlet is situated along the banks of the lake that is the centerpiece of Curtis Memorial Park. When it first opened in 1995, Golf Digest recognized it as one of the "top ten new courses to play in the U.S." This challenging layout will definitely test your shot making abilities. The golf course begins with a tough front nine that has several sharp doglegs over water and tall grasses. There are also a slew of blind shots. The back nine is a bit gentler since there's less water and it is more open and forgiving, but the large, multi-tiered greens can be tricky. The fourth hole is the golf course's signature. Your tee shot will have to carry a marsh to a narrow landing area on this par 5. After that, you'll be faced with a triple-tiered green with the lake to the left and bunkers to the right.

Poor Greens, Average Bunkers
Nice staff and course layout. Greens were in terrible condition, aerated without online notice, and extreme amounts of sand, to include clumps and ridges. Bunkers in poor to average condition. No starter at 1st tee. I will play elsewhere in the future.
rough roughs
the coarse was great some still under repair but if u hit it in the rough at all you wernt gonna find it. i think they need alittle better grounds keeper there
Challenging Layout
This is definitely a shot makers course! A lot of blind shots and narrow fairways. The front nine is challenging but the back nine is more forgiving. Pace of play was excellent for a weekend and the staff was extremely friendly. Fairways were lush and most greens were in good shape. Would definitely play again if in the area.
I don't want to sound too negative...
So, for starters, I played one of my best unofficial rounds of golf ever here. I will get to why it was unofficial in a minute. The course was busy that day, but play was still average, about 4 1/2 hrs to finish 18.
I have never played on fairways as lush and thick as these. I don't think the cart's tires touched the ground the fairways were so thick. In a good way. As in your ball was sitting up on super thick carpet, like hitting off a live hitting mat at a driving range. You could feel your feet move the direction of the blades of grass as you took a step, that thick. That said, there are very obvious drainage problems as there are bare dirt low spots and this almost white crabgrass around some greens and other places. No one seems to fix pitch marks on the greens, which is a real shame. I fixed at least 5 fresh ones on each green I was on, not including mine. Inconsiderate.
The bunkers were so bad it was like they came off a decade-abandoned course and placed there. Hardly any sand, atrocious drainage problems to the point of some of them having drain pipes just sitting in them. The sand is so hard packed and unraked that your shoes hardly make marks, and don't even think about getting a club into the sand. Just bounces off and skulls your ball. Off you miss every bunker and hit greens every time, it's perfect. Otherwise you will be SEVERELY punished for average shots.
Course okay, staff less than friendly
Booked my round through GolfNow site for a10:30am tee time. Arrived at the course at 8am figuring to practice a little and maybe get paired up earlier. Six cars in the parking lot so thought I would be able to beat the heat. Checked in with the attendant and asked about it. He said that since I got a better rate online, they would only honor my original time. REALLY?! Expecting to now wait for 2 1/2 hours I hear over their PA system that I'm on deck for the next group. What a jerk!
Great public course with views
The course has a lot of blind shots and elevated greens you will need to use all the clubs in your bag. Staff was terrific and lunch choices very nice. The fairways are lush and the pace of play excellent. Well stocked pro shop-save time to shop. Lovely views of the lake from 7 or 8 holes.
Keeps your attention
This course keeps your attention. Move the ball around the course and keep it in play. Spray and Pray will not work here.
Great course for the money
The course was in expected condition for the Fall. Greens are well maintained and staff is very friendly. Fun to play during the week as a solo and get matched up with some retired folks. They always have the best golf attitudes!
a shotmakers' course with nice views
The Gauntlet is a strange course, it's a fairly straightforward woods' course with a fair amount of verticality, largely open...the woods don't really come into play much on this course. It does give you a chance to get into the fairway easily, but the approach shots here are simply henious. The whole point of this course is to make you outthink & outplay yourself, luring you into disaster. Playing tee to fairway to green in regulation is not just the only way to shoot decently on this course, it's the only way to survive it. But unless you are a solid player, it is almost impossible to do that consistently on this course. Well at least there are some nice lakeside views and it's a reasonably appealing layout, visually. Nice clubhouse too.
A bit too challenging
For the average player this course is too difficult. Too many elevation changes, 90 degree doglegs and side hill, uphill and downhill lies. The course is in reasonable shape for this time of year, though many sand traps need work.
Fall season play
Lots of leaves to contend with on the course and greens. But it is what it is during this time of year. Still enjoyed playing there.
Fall Weather and leaves!
Cold with light sprinkles did not effect round. Fairway dormant but full, tees needed cutting and greens needed blowing. For a Sat morning, this should have been done. Otherwise the course played as expected and price was excellent with a -72% hot deal.
Always a nice round with multiple lake view holes and plenty of challenge.
Bang for the buck
This was my first time playing here and it will not be the last. My other person I was playing with was running behind, and the pro shop made sure that it was not going to be an issue. The food is great and priced fair. The course is in excellent condition given it is almost November. There were some spots in the fairway but the greens are still green. I will say, the greens aren't the easiest, they don't play consistent as much as they should. But overall it was a great time
Gauntlet GC
Great challenging layout with a variety of up and down holes, quite a few blind tee and approach shots. Local knowledge would go along way here. Conditions of the fairways and most greens were great but the course is getting a very rough around the edges. Fairways lies were perfect and the greens rolled true, smooth and quick. Most greens quite large making club selection a little challenging. Thought the course was fair until the last two holes which were fun and frustrating at the same time. 17 starts with a benign tee shot with a 200 yd club and when I got to my ball I was able to witness the craziest green complex I've ever seen. Minimum two clubs uphill, you can see a tongue of the green leading to the upper level. Quite awesome. 18 starts with a normal fade tee ball and appears to be a regular approach shot but the green is 50 yards long at an angle. I placed the ball on the middle of the green and had no way to keep the ball on the green when putting downhill due to the steep slope between levels. Didn't think the course played any tighter than most just penalizing for way word shots. Bunker sand inconsistent, Fun golf course would definitely play again!
Really narrow fairways!!! Not good for beginner!!!

Great Fairways and Staff!
Hard to find better conditioned fairways. The tee boxes could use some work, as well as the greens. But overall the course was in really good shape. The staff couldn't have been nicer and the burger (two patties!) at the grill is one of the best I've ever had! Challenging course with lots of blind tee shots and sharp doglegs. Need to play it a couple of more times before I'd feel comfortable with yardages and aim points. Saw roughly a dozen deer wandering the course on various holes. Love the park's natural setting with no houses.
Good conditions. Tee boxes could be in better shape
Played on an early Sunday morning. Pace of play was great. Fairways and greens were in very good shape. The tee boxes weren't in great shape and could use some work and a few of the bunkers need more sand. Keep the ball in the fairway and you'll be ok. Miss the fairways and you'll be penalized. Overall a very good value. I will play here again.
Very nice surprise
We had a 3:00 tee time for after work. After getting there a few minutes late because of some VERY heavy traffic, the people at the pro shop seemed a little annoyed. So we were a little doubtful before we started and felt a little negative and were just hoping to get through the round. But man this course was just a pleasant and beautiful surprise. Fairways were nice traps in good shape and the rough was a challenge but not obnoxious. On the back 9 I found I lost my lob wedge and I reported it at the pro shop. At this point the people were super friendly and helpful even calling later in the evening with a possible club for me (wrong one though). Negatives were no beverage carts and pace of play was slow they need a ranger. But this course was beautiful!
Fun course
This course has its challenges, so 90 degree doglegs that require strategic tee shots. Fairways and greens in good shape. Second time in a row that there was a wedding on the #10 tee box as we made the turn, requiring us to detour around to #11 and play #10 as our 18th hole. Slight inconvenience but we were able to get some of the wedding party's food at the 19th so we'll call it even.
