Victoria Golf Course
About
The Links at Victoria Golf Course has a convenient location in Carson that is easily accessible from the South Bay, downtown Los Angeles, or Orange County. William Bell, the mastermind who crafted the Torrey Pines courses, also designed the Links at Victoria. The course has a traditional design that features wide, gently undulating fairways and large, well manicured greens. It's not an overly challenging course but there are some holes that will make you think and you'll find that accuracy and a good strategy are both generously rewarded. The wide-openness of the front nine provides a gentle start to the golf course while the tighter back mine presents greater challenges. It's a good round for learning beginners and more advanced golfers will find it to be a fun, quick round for an affordable price.

Lack of Communication
First off, I booked through GolfNow and no where did it say one hole was closed for repairs, otherwise I would have booked elsewhere. I did not know about this until I arrived at the course with my non refundable non cancelable reservation...I was stuck playing 17 holes.
Grant you we are in a severe drought but the course was very very dry. Just about every stroke left a miniature cloud burst. Fun to see bunnies and coyotes on the course. Fairways are very close together. At least Westchester puts up nets on the fairways that are parallel together.
An improving very good value!
I'm a 6 handicap. Love the greens and course layout. When the work on the fairways pay-off, it will be a very nice course. I'll definitely return.
Nice layout//
Sad to say, the course really néeds improvement. Omg, fairways are the same and getting worse. Pls look for a good operator. Ty
Fairways
Lots of grass where it's not needed. It needs to be moved to bare spots.
Victoria
After the rain this course has lots of growth in the protected areas. The course played in about 4.5 hours, and pace was good but course was not super busy. I play here often and some days are better than others, when the wind is blowing the course becomes more difficult. Greens always seem to roll nice and fairways have come back to some extent - not perfect but playable, most people move their ball to patch of grass if in the middle of the fairway and in a bare area. It had a great deal paid 23.49 with cart at 1030 on a sat.. cant beat that..
Great Deal, Decent Course
I've been here multiple times. Played as a single and got a great deal off GolfNow.com for $25 to ride for 18 Holes. The course is decent shape, but needs some work. There are still a lot of dirt patches on the fairway and rough needs to be cut more often. The venue offers a decent range and two large putting greens with a small chipping area. Pace of play can get slow on weekends, but is pretty face on weekdays. Overall a great course to play when there's a deal online, but save your money if you pay full rate here.
Fun track, and don't read the negative reviews.
OK. Let me paraphrase this whole review by saying:
it is a LA County Muni track. Run by the same people as Los Verdes, Lakewood, Alondra, Knollwood, Chester Washington, etc. The County just poured $2 million to fix Chester Washington. So you can understand how Victoria has been neglected somewhat. However! I played the course for the first time today, and I have to say, I enjoyed it! The conditions are, of course, not great, but totally playable, and the greens were nice, the typical LA County greens that you would find that all those course I just mentioned, which are, for the most part, very very good, and WAY better than LA City run courses. For those of you who don't know, LA City and LA County are run separately, and they have their own courses under each one's jurisdiction and are run completely differently. LA City, I can assure you, NEVER has good greens but may have better decent overall playability. LA County has some poorly maintained tracks, and are notoriously known for allowing 5somes!!!!! So take your pick.
But I digress..... Victoria is a well-designed track. It has gone through some problems recently due to water shortages and perhaps, County-budget problems that hits hard on course maintenance supplies? It needs major TLC on the fairways, but, since we have had the rain, it is totally playable. There is grass on most of the fairways, with just a few holes with some bare, hard patches still - but here's the kicker - at LA City courses like Rancho Park, Wilson and Encino - you won't find any rough to speak of. There is no distinction between fairway and rough at those courses - and that is also perhaps another reason why people don't like to play Victoria - because there is proper, if fluffy, but solid, thick, rough here. The fairways are defined, and if you miss in some spots - you might not find it, or will have a difficult shot into the green - and then, AROUND the greens? It's pretty thick. It's the fluffy bermuda/Kikuyu mix, but it's fluffy thick enough to cause chipping problems for many un-skilled folk. There are also some areas down the sides of the fairways that have very grassy, weedy areas that you definitely don't want to get into that you don't find as much at the LA City courses. At Victoria though, it's actually OK to have thin, hard fairways - it's supposed to be LINKS, folks. That's how it was designed, in the first place. It is supposed to place premium on good driving, by keeping in the fairway straight and down the middle or in the correct spots, with the thicker rough to catch errant shots where you are challenged - unlike at LA City courses where you can pretty much hit it willy-nilly and still get out with a solid contact as there is no "rough." You'll see what I mean if you go play Ranch Park.
So, having said all this, I can only hope that we get a little more rain, and that the course gets a little more TLC, but overall, it is totally playable right now as long as you hit it straight and stay out of the thick stuff. And, I have to say, I will thank the greens crew to allow the rough to grow out. Please keep it that way.
And it's only $36 to walk on the weekend? That's a steal! And you can hit off the grass at the range on the weekends!!!!
my day
played as a twosome pace of play was good. fairways a little dry but always some green spots close by. greens were in excellent shape.
Links at Victoria
Good course. Staff is freindy and course played fast. Played a 6:30 tee time and finished before 11:00. A great valueI will definetly come back.
Built on a Landfill
As of November 2014, much of the re-planted grass is not filled in and there are considerable bare areas throughout many of the fairways. Water conservation and lack of rain didn't help. Nearly a year ago, they started fixing up the fairways and re-planted quite a bit of turf throughout. However, since this course was originally built on a landfill and after all the work, the course cannot support decent fairway coverage. With the improvements, a price increase was in order, but as the conditions are diminishing, you would expect a decrease of green fees fee, but that doesn't appear to be the case. All in all, the course is acceptable and has a great layout. The greens are great and the the effort from all is appreciated.
Getting better....
Course has much improved over the last year. Greens are great, tee boxes are good, and fairways will be decent soon.
Good Job at getting it on track!!
But as it gets better, lots of golfers. 5 somes allowed. Over 5 hour rounds.
Easy wide. course
Its an easy and wide course. The fairways are not good . The rough's are worse. The greens are maintained well. Full par 72 course .. I am not sure if i will play there again ..
Great value for the money.
This is one on my favorite courses. The course is in good shape, with just a few areas in repair. This is a great course if you are looking for length. Fairways are nice and wide.
They don't want golfnow customer..
When I entered proshop not bad situation.. however, When I told "I have reservation by golf now dot com", he who name rary had disappeared smile on his face.. & he told "if not shared cart need pay cart fee" therefore I showed conditon of golfnow reservation "include cart" .. he told " I don't know, pay cart fee or cancel".. I can't call to golfnow.com cuz sunday, & need to go shared cart cuz some guys waiting outside & can't not cancel cuz I'd long drive to there.. I'd play shared cart first time met..
The is in work
All tee boxes are in good condition but some fairways and all greens were getting worked so the conditions were not so good. I wish staff mentioned this when I called. All greens were punched, and should not be considered playable.
Once place is up and running at 100% I am sure it will be great course for $38.
Greens are in best condition I've seen in South Bay
Played this course a month ago greens are always some of the best in South Bay Area, if not the best, pace of play is great played a round in 3 hours two weeks in a row, they are working hard at fixing fairways and its getting way better, now they just need to put trees or bushes in barren dirt areas to make it a little more difficult but I love this course
Played this course on March 19, 2015. This course is in terrible shape. Fairways have very little grass on them. Large hard, dry, dirt patches throughout the course. The bunkers have very little sand in them. They are hard. The greens are good but that doesn't make up for the terrible condition. If the county doesn't have the money to maintain this course they should shut it. When you call for a tee time they do not tell you the terrible condition. We paid $40.00 per person, it is not worth $10.00 per person. Will never play this course again.
