Victoria Golf Course
About
The Links at Victoria Golf Course has a convenient location in Carson that is easily accessible from the South Bay, downtown Los Angeles, or Orange County. William Bell, the mastermind who crafted the Torrey Pines courses, also designed the Links at Victoria. The course has a traditional design that features wide, gently undulating fairways and large, well manicured greens. It's not an overly challenging course but there are some holes that will make you think and you'll find that accuracy and a good strategy are both generously rewarded. The wide-openness of the front nine provides a gentle start to the golf course while the tighter back mine presents greater challenges. It's a good round for learning beginners and more advanced golfers will find it to be a fun, quick round for an affordable price.

Mostly dirt, nice greens! Photo submitted by LeeDaBord on 08/31/2013
This course has fantastic greens
The course is lacking on fairway grass, but the layout and greens make up for that. Definitly will play there again.
Careful of OB... and the fairway as well...
The Links at Victoria would be a nice easy course if there were more grass and fewer gopher holes. It's understandable to have a bad lie when you have an errant drive, but to have to hit off rock-hard dirt from the middle of the fairway half of the time is unnacceptable.
just needs to grow grass on the fairways
the manager was the best i have encountered at any golf course
good practice areas
greens were the best in shape
...Same as it ever was
I have been playing Victoria since 1974, when I was a sophomore in high school. Nothing has changed. The layout is fun. It is more or less wide-open with few trees and big greens. The challenge of this links-style course comes from its length and the wind, which blows much harder in the afternoon. The greens were very good when I played. They were smooth with very few ball marks. The tee boxes are as good or better than most of the L.A. county munis. The problem on this course is, and always has been, that grass will not grow on large areas of the fairways and rough ... and that's kind of important. I don't usually believe in "winter rules", but there are so many distressed areas in the fairways that this is the one course where I make an exception. That being said, I have always felt that many golfers have, over the years, used the poor fairway conditions as an excuse to bash Victoria. The fact is, its very tough to close out a good round at Victoria, especially when the wind is blowing in the afternoon. The closing holes (13-18) can be very tough. I think many golfers complain about Victoria as much because of its difficulty as the poor conditions. If you know what you're getting into, Victoria can be a lot of fun and very challenging, even though some of the fairways look like the surface of the moon.
Had fun on Xmas
Played after some wet weather on Xmas eve. Golfnow mistakenly had a weekday rate posted for Xmas, and the starter honored it. Yes, some of the fairways are complete dirt tracks, but my buddies and I have agreed to move the ball to the nearest grass if you end up on dirt in the fairway.
The main positives are that it's pretty cheap and you can almost always find a morning tee time at the last second. Playing on Xmas, we finished in less than 4 hours as a threesome that became a foursome near the end. Oh, and having wet greens means you can see where everyone else's putts went; it was better than having a caddy!
Tip: Seeing how many open tee times there are for the course on it's own website and this one will give you a sense of how long your round will take. This course attracts hacks.
A great layout, but beware...
This course is in desperate need of some TLC. I've never been on a course with worse fairways, and some of the "fairway dirt" is so dry and hard, it's cracking! After several of my best drives, I had to move the ball out of the center of the fairway to the fringes, just because that's where there was some grass to hit off of, and who wants to damage their clubs, right? Also, the bunkers are hard and thin... there wasn't enough soft sand (.5"-1" at most) for me to get underneath the ball with a sand wedge -- I wound up having to try to lift the ball out with a pitching wedge.
It's really a shame, because with the interesting layout and challenging greens, this could be a highly enjoyable course. But now, as it is, it's not worth paying money for. Even the GolfNow discounted rates.
Also, the staff there is kind of clueless -- the starter acted like he was in a big hurry to rush me out onto the course, 25 minutes before my scheduled tee time... then he pulled me out of a threesome and made my group a fivesome (with a threesome trailing us). This course would benefit greatly from a new management company that's willing to put some money into improvements.
Course played like a Country Club
Although there are lots of bare spots in the fairways the course was fun to play. The greens are in excellent shape and the pace of play was less than 4 hrs. The back 9 is a real challenge because it is a lot tighter than the wide open front 9. Did I mention the Greens? They were running at about 11.
Ok Course
You get what you pay for. I got into in with a few interesting golfers. The course is dry and in need of maintenance.
plays true to it's "links" monicker
Great course for a great value, bunkers hard pan..
fairways were mainly dirt one big sign needed ground under repair
Went to this course in the past and nicknamed it the Goodyear blimp course since it lands next to it and always had a good time. However on this visit I aimed for the center of the fairway and would see my ball land with dust a flying not on the first tee but all tees except the par 3 where hopefully a fairway does not come into play. The traps were in bad shape as well. Played at a good pace 4 hours this time, in the past it was 5 hour round because they let off 5somes. The greens were in good shape and was quite the contrast from the rest of the course. Will not be going back very soon. Paid a great price $17 but still was overpriced by the conditions.
Course is in poor shape, but you can find cheap tee times.
It is a very poorly maintained course. That may be why you can find very cheap rates and there were very few golfers on the course. It is definitely a bottom tier course, which is a shame because a little TLC would make it pretty nice.
Slow Play makes me dizzy
A good number of fairways are dirt, you should be rewarded if u hit the fairway.
I didn't see a marshall all course long, the par 3's cause such a back up, we didn't get to finish our round, ( it got dark)golfers should let players hit up onto the green when there is a back-up
Course in decent shape
The greens were in good condition as we're the tee boxes. As usual, the fairways were patchy and hard...not ideal but better than earlier in the year. I got stuck behind a few slow groups, but had a good time. Greens rolled true and had nice slopes. The Goodyear blimp was doing training which was a nice distraction while we waited on tee boxes.
Great Price
I know the course were made on top of dump site, but still fairway grass is real bad. But I cannot complain that fee is the lowest.
Vic
Tumble weeds n beat up fairways. This was a fun course needs some love but the greens were in good shape.
This course has great features.
From the tips, the course is a great layout. Tee boxes are ok. Fairways are fair (may have to find a patch of grass). Greens are perfect. If nothing else give it a chance for the greens.
