Stumpy Lake Golf Course
About
Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a Robert Trent Jones design that provides a unique golfing experience. This scenic layout is routed across a 1,400-acre nature preserve that is absent of any commercial or residential development for miles. The golf course wraps around its namesake lake, which has a canoe and kayak launch as well as a fishing pier. Deer, fox, and eagles are frequently seen on the course and there has even been the occasional bear sighting. Water has a prominent presence throughout and there are also several strategically placed bunkers. Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a layout that will force you to be creative with your shot making but it's still approachable enough for high handicappers to tackle with confidence. If you're looking to get in even more golf, sister club Honey Bee is located almost right next door.

Gorgeous view of Stumpy Lake Photo submitted by Realestateangels on 11/06/2014
course was in pretty good shape
It has improved over the last couple of weeks. It could be better if people would fix their ball marks on the greens.
Off to a slow start
My 7 year old daughter and I had a tee time at 6am. After traveling in from NC and arriving late I failed to set an alarm. We arrived at the course at 6:30am and they squeezed us in to an already tight schedule. The course was great, staff was super friendly, and the cart was plush. I’ll definitely come come next time we visit.
Great course overall
Great time with family and friends. Will be back soon.
Extremely Slow Pace of Play
Poorly managed course where they overbook, last two times there, at least four groups waiting on 1st teen box. Don’t bother playing here unless you want a 5 1/2 hour pace of play
Fast Greens
Decent course conditions today. Fairways were ok with some bare hardpan spots in the center. Greens were very fast and it was difficult to get a ball to check and sit, most rolled out much farther than expected. Just about anywhere you hit it off the tee you could somewhat find your way out of trouble. Friendly staff. I'll go back again if I can find another good deal on a round.
Nice round
4 hackers played in under 4 hours. Fairways and tee boxes above average. Greens true, could have been a little quicker. Had a very enjoyable round
Good course, holds water fairly well. It rained the night before, few puddles here and there but nothing unplayable. Nice wide fairways but fast greens. Would go again
Course in great condition, play moved good.
Hadn’t played Stumpy Lake in 30 + years. Looking forward to going back.
I love Stumpy Lake
If Stumpy Lake was a type of food, I would eat it everyday.
Covid 19 standards abandon
After bookinh a 2 player round. Course personel informed us that in order to ride seperate carts additional money would charged. Stated that this was because I used the Golf Now App. I did not see any flags during booking that this was the case. If we had booked separately, would I had to ride with a total stranger booking the same available tee time via the app? If this is the standard please advise so that myself and others can reconsider app booking and courses we decide to golf.
Wet but fun
Course had plenty of rainfall and was a challenge to the iron play. But I got to hang with friends so it was great.
Do Not Play!!
If it has rained in the past week or 10 days don’t even consider this course. There is a reason it is named stumpy lake - there is a lake in every fairway. It is borderline unplayable with how wet it is. I understand a lack of drainage but in the hundreds of rounds of golf I have played I’ve never seen something this muddy and wet.
The overall layout is very gimmicky and not very fun. The only redeeming factor is that the river near by is pretty.
Wet splashfest
The price was awsmeso e, but we played like towo kids on the mud. But we had fun, so that's all that mattered.
Close, consistent, quality play
Stumpy is one of those courses that is very unassuming. If you didn’t grow up around here or live close by, you may not even know it exists.
Tucked in with a nature preserve area, you get a lot of natural scenery to accompany your game. The course itself is challenging enough to be fun but not so unforgiving that newcomers can’t enjoy it. It is the course I play most often when in the area.
Very flat and open course. Great for all levels of golfers. Great staff they were very welcoming and friendly. Overall not a bad secluded course in VA beach. Would go again for sure.
Winter Golf - Sunny Day
THe course was in good shape considering the time of Year, early March. The greens were in great shape, good speed and smooth. The layout is straight forward, no surprises. Truly like the length and par 5’s were challenging with water placed at strategic places. Overall a great day, enjoyable round.
