Stumpy Lake Golf Course
About
Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a Robert Trent Jones design that provides a unique golfing experience. This scenic layout is routed across a 1,400-acre nature preserve that is absent of any commercial or residential development for miles. The golf course wraps around its namesake lake, which has a canoe and kayak launch as well as a fishing pier. Deer, fox, and eagles are frequently seen on the course and there has even been the occasional bear sighting. Water has a prominent presence throughout and there are also several strategically placed bunkers. Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a layout that will force you to be creative with your shot making but it's still approachable enough for high handicappers to tackle with confidence. If you're looking to get in even more golf, sister club Honey Bee is located almost right next door.

Gorgeous view of Stumpy Lake Photo submitted by Realestateangels on 11/06/2014
Wet but fun
Course had plenty of rainfall and was a challenge to the iron play. But I got to hang with friends so it was great.
Do Not Play!!
If it has rained in the past week or 10 days don’t even consider this course. There is a reason it is named stumpy lake - there is a lake in every fairway. It is borderline unplayable with how wet it is. I understand a lack of drainage but in the hundreds of rounds of golf I have played I’ve never seen something this muddy and wet.
The overall layout is very gimmicky and not very fun. The only redeeming factor is that the river near by is pretty.
Wet splashfest
The price was awsmeso e, but we played like towo kids on the mud. But we had fun, so that's all that mattered.
Close, consistent, quality play
Stumpy is one of those courses that is very unassuming. If you didn’t grow up around here or live close by, you may not even know it exists.
Tucked in with a nature preserve area, you get a lot of natural scenery to accompany your game. The course itself is challenging enough to be fun but not so unforgiving that newcomers can’t enjoy it. It is the course I play most often when in the area.
Very flat and open course. Great for all levels of golfers. Great staff they were very welcoming and friendly. Overall not a bad secluded course in VA beach. Would go again for sure.
Winter Golf - Sunny Day
THe course was in good shape considering the time of Year, early March. The greens were in great shape, good speed and smooth. The layout is straight forward, no surprises. Truly like the length and par 5’s were challenging with water placed at strategic places. Overall a great day, enjoyable round.
Fun Course
Coming from where I live in Carolina, this course is flat; but it does add in some sharp doglegs, which adds a challenge. It’s very walkable, which I like, and if your tee shot wanders off the fairway, you won’t find yourself in too much trouble. The greens were well maintained and firm. Everyone I encountered here was friendly, and I would definitely come back here in the future.
Cancellation/ overbooking issue
I booked a hot deal for Monday at 9:08am and after driving 45min plus to golf with a colleague of mine, I was told I couldn’t golf at the time that was reserved and purchased. They asked if I received an email and I told the cashier that no email was sent to me regarding issues of this location overbooking tee times. The response I received was “call Golfnow”. I arrived early and showed the staff member I was charged and no emails were sent and nothing was done for me. It was even more frustrating that after talking to the cashier I randomly received my cancellation email 2 minutes after my tee time. Extremely frustrated with how this was handled and I felt like there was no help given on resolving this issue for myself and my guest. Poor management and communication with a third party shouldn’t result in an inconvenience for your guests.
Floods and golf don't mix.
Well I played the course even though the fairways were under water. But I hung with friends and that's all that matters.
The cheers of golf courses
I golfmany courses in my area. There are courses that are more daring than this one but saying that this is one of my favorite courses to play. Everytime I'm there they treat you like your family. I bring my 8 year old and they treat him just the same. Let him ride along and hit balls with me. scenery is superb. If u run a little late into the evening they aren't on your tail demanding karts back at an exact time. Very easy going. I love it
My home my course
This is my home course and I couldn't be more proud when my friends play this course with me. The winding fairways through the beautiful woods and lake side views. Amazing day with friends and golf.
Best course and price in the area
This course is in great shape. The price is well below other golf courses in the area.
Slow round
Had a foursome that ended up with 2 holes open in front of them and 3 groups behind them. Brought it up to Marshall and he just said by the clock they were ok.
Stumpy lake
The course should advise golf now that the back nine is closed for maintenance and the front nine greens were aerated and heavily sanded.
Good Course, Long Course!!!!
Great course, long course yardage wise. It has pretty good run off areas if you hit a errand tee shot. Pace of play is great. Staff is friendly. The course is also in a great area it’s behind Stumpy Lake so no houses, cars are around it’s very quiet. I would recommend this course for others. Overall my favorite course in the Hampton Roads area.
