About
Whispering Firs Golf Club is one of two courses operated by Joint Base Lewis McChord. The other course, Eagles Pride, is located southwest of Whispering Firs. Designed by Bob Baldock in 1962, Whispering Firs opened on what was then McChord Air Force Base and later became part of Joint Base Lewis McChord. Though it's a military golf course, it's open to the public but don't forget to check in with security at the visitor's center. The layout features well manicured fairways lined with mature trees and challenging rough. The small greens demand accuracy and are made even more difficult with strategically placed bunkers framing the edges. There are some tough doglegs that require conservative play, and water hazards come into play as well. Whispering Firs Golf Club will test a variety of skills but it's not an overly punishing course. Players of all skill levels will be able to enjoy a round here.

Soggy in a drought
Love the challenging course. Lots of long par 4s, and the greens were GREEN. They had so much water on them that the fringes were soggy. Took a few holes to adjust to how slow the greens were. Overall if this wasn’t on a US airbase it would be packed. Be aware you need to have an enhanced ID and a reservation to get on base, but worth it.
Great value
Course was in good shape, traps could have been refreshed a bit, nice practice green, tee boxes well maintained and greens where good.
Would be nice if they had a white/gold combo. There is a big difference between the white and gold standing alone. Something like a 5800-5900 white /gold combo would be a very nice addition.
Lots of dog legs and big fir trees, need to keep it straight off the tee.
Fun round
Great course for the price; wish the snack bar would stay open past 4p on weekends...or had cold water source to refill bottles on hot day of walking. Not high end course, so got behind slow 4some (very slow, no knowledge of golf) that backed us up and no marshall to move them along. I like the lay out, needs more watering but greens were in good shape and enjoyed the course.
Could use some maintenance
Great course, especially for the cost. The driving range and fairways are a little neglected, which is sad for a guy like me, who retired from that base before the effects from base realignment took its toll. I remember a much better looking course about 10-15 years ago. Thanks Army!
Whispering Firs
Fun course to play. The course is in great shape and well laid out. Good course for all levels of players.
Ants and gophers
Fun core is great layout. The greens are in great shape. But the fairways are just riddled with gophers. And the greens are speckled with ants. Be nice if they can get these things under control.

Fairways were well watered. Greens putt true. Ball washers on every hole is nice. Some courses don't have them.
