Fox Hollow Golf Club

Fox Hollow has always been one of the premiere public courses in the Bay area. The course is set against a stunning backdrop and plays difficult but not crazy impossible by any means. Over the past decade I’ve played here numerous times and rarely been disappointed. However, the past two visits have been wildly disappointing and even infuriating.

The disappointing part has been the upkeep of the course. I played the course in December and again this week and the greens are in very rough shape. They are patchy with seed speckled throughout. I realize it’s been dry but several other nearby courses are keeping their greens well managed.

The infuriating part was the pompous and belligerently rude ranger. The guy was a total jerk and everyone in my group (a group of guys I didn’t know before the round) spoke to his demeaning behavior. I’m certainly no cupcake and the fellas I was playing with were physicians and a business owner, so I doubt they are either. We simply expected to be treated with respect.

If you want a nice course just swing over to TPC or Dunedin, or save some cash and play Crescent Oaks right around the corner.

Fox Hollow has been one of my favorite public courses for several years. The range and short game practice areas are very nice and conveniently located. However, the greens really need some work and this must be addressed. The greens are bumpy and not true. I know this may require complete replacement but this is needed and worthwhile to complement this wonderful course.

I hate leaving a negative review, especially for such a beautiful and challenging track, but the course needs work for the rates they are charging and their rangers definitely need a lesson in service and hospitality. Over the past decade I have played Fox Hollow more than a dozen times. Normally the course is in pristine shape but the past two times I've played here the greens were in really rough shape (including today). I realize that it hasn't rained much in the past few months but having just played TPC last week, I realize there are things courses can to do to maintain conditions in line with green fees. Fox Hollow has not done that.

Pace of play has always been a huge issue at Fox Hollow but today it was not an issue. We were moving well when on hole 7 the ranger chastised our group for moving too slowly (for reference, we finished the front nine in an hour and 55 minutes and twice had to wait on the group in front of us).

What really takes this review to a 1 star is the attitude of the ranger. Guy was such a jerk and remarkably rude. Honestly, probably the worst attitude I've ever seen from a course ranger in 20 years of playing golf.

My recommendation would be to play TPC or Dunedin for a similar rate, or save money and go to Crescent Oaks just around the corner.

I’ve played here many times. I am a competitive amateur golfer. I’ve seen and played some of the best courses and I’ve played some real dog tracks. Fox Hollow is in very good condition. Tee boxes and fairways are green (not plush) and greens are good to ok. Greens a a bit bumpy with some dead areas in the outskirts. Fairway edges have some bare spots and bunkers are not well manicured, but they’re not horrible either. No amateur golfer should be putting their nose up to this course. However! Anything over $75 is overpriced for sure. I have played 3 semi-private/public courses over the past 3 weeks… green, plush, quick and true greens, great staff, etc. Those courses are worth +$100. I want to LOVE FH and give it all the glory.. but it just falls short. Will not return at these prices.

Staff were super friendly. Pace of play was great but we were playing in 40 degree weather and only diehard golfers were out to play. Will definitely be back in warmer weather.

Great course. Challenging but not penalizing and a lot of fun. I only rated the piece of plate lower because we got out behind a big member tournament. There’s nothing the course can do to control that. I’ve been here before and would definitely come back again. Staff very friendly and helpful and a great course!

The course conditions in the middle of winter are excellent. Greens were in superb shape except for a few blemishes here and there but it is apparent staff is on top of maintenance. Greens rolled fast and true. Fairways were in great shape. Fun round weaving through amazing houses. Fox Hollow is a course that challenges players of all skill levels. Highly recommend if the opportunity presents itself.

Amazing Course for the price point. If you are in the Tampa area definitely come out here 2 times rather than other places for $200! Could not ask for more out of the course the fairways were tight and the greens rolled true. Pro shop was stacked . Also Got paired up with a twosome and we played in 4 hours. Gary if you see this you are the best my man Had a great time playing!

Beautiful course. Cart girl was most attentive I’ve ever had a course anywhere.challenging course but worth it. Would love to play it again.

Course was in good condition and round was very enjoyable.

Course is find for your dollars. Green have some small area that are problem but a lot better than most around the area. This why I play here. They will need to be fix or replaced in the near future. All greens have a life and they are getting close to there but still the best green around. I would like to think that a course like this has plans to replace them down the road for that area is very nice and the golf cousre should be as well.

This is the 5th time I have played Fox Hollow. Unfortunately the course conditions were not that great. I will always love the layout but parts of the course need to be addressed especially the tees. For the fee that is charged, the course should be much better.

Nice course, wet fairways/rough; fast greens, nice fun layout; lots of huge alligators & turtles.

Greens were not good

Price was ok everything else was great but course conditions needs help tee boxes and fairways like a 3-4 greens 6-7 this is a great layout 4 years ago this was a 10/10 everywhere
