Joseph M Bartholomew has great potential
Playing at Joseph M. Bartholomew Golf Course was a unique experience given its historical significance. This course, crafted by Bartholomew, a trailblazing African American course designer, carries a rich legacy, even as the man himself was often restricted from playing on courses like this due to racial segregation. It’s a privilege to play on grounds with such historical depth.
The pro shop is well-maintained, and I had a pleasant experience with the staff; the lady at the desk was welcoming and helpful. The golf carts were in good shape, adding a nice touch to the round.
The course layout and overall potential are impressive, and I can see how, with proper maintenance, it could become a top spot in the area. However, conditions on the day I played were disappointing. The greens were in rough shape—some of the worst I’ve seen, though they had promise if given attention. The bunkers weren’t well-kept either, which affected the experience, and unfortunately, bird droppings were widespread, creating distractions on many of the holes.
I only played the front 9, as the back 9 looked backed up and I didn’t want to spend all day waiting. I would love to return, though, once the course sees some improvements. With a bit more care, this could be a truly outstanding course and a better tribute to Bartholomew’s legacy.
Wide open course
Great course to test all of your clubs. Green are a little rough. The goose poo is everywhere so watch where you step.
No greens
The course manager let's groups of 5 and 6 tee off together because they are his boys. Let anyone else try that they immediately make them split up.
The greens are pathetic.
Nice course overall but greens in rough shape
Overall nice layout. Greens are having some issues with dead spots and no grass areas. Some areas patched but no true rolls on a number of them. Pace was a little slow but was nice to see parents playing with younger kids. Not sure I’d go back until they get the greens back under control.
Enjoyed playing this course.
It was in good shape and maintenance was working on making it better.
Greens were cut, fast and smooth.
Greens being repaired, but still playable.
Greens under repair around the fringes only. Rest of greens are very nice, very smooth and for the first time in a while, very fast! Fairways are tip top shape right now also.
My only complaint is the "cash only" portion. There's definitely something sketchy going on. I've seen companies have issues with credit card machines before, its usually remedied fairly quickly as in a day or 2.
Its a municipal course in Orleans parish, so one could only imagine why its cash only for months now.

Nice course , once the greens are fixed it will be a great place.
Course layout is nice and have friendly staff. Seemed really busy but not crazy for a Saturday. Greens are in horrible shape right now. Super dry and sandy with huge patches missing (being repaired) currently. Price is extremely high for the shape of the greens. Hopefully it's helping with repair costs 🙃
Probably won't play here again until late fall to give time for the greens to settle.

Best course, pound for pound in Nola area. This is my home course. Catch great deals on here too. They are fixing the greens right now where grass didn’t grow, but it’s still very playable
