Pleasant surprise
Overall positive first impression despite waiting on almost every hole. Course is in decent shape although showing effects of care-less golfers (divots. ball marks, traps, etc.). Front nine is flat and fairly mundane, but the back nine features elevation changes, imaginative layout, and a concrete cart path that elevates it above Muni status. For first-timers, course map on scorecard is helpful, but better signage is needed - especially on front nine where cart path often meanders through the desert. Staff was friendly and courteous - especially gal driving the beverage cart. This is what excellent customer service looks like!
Very enjoyable round...
Played with my wife and another couple. Pace of play was very comfortable. Had to wait a few times, but that is to be expected. Greens were very firm, fast and true, but a well struck shot held as it should.
Fairways were nice, first cut was dry, but played well.
Will play again!!
The course was in good condition
First time playing at Enke in a couple of years. Overall the course was in good condition however on this day pin placement was an issue. It just never seemed to be in a flat part of the green. Tee boxes are not flat and the rough is cut too thin so nothing holds. Pace of play was pretty good 4 hours and 15 minutes.
Interesting course
No houses on the course, interesting layout, but make sure you play the right tees. I played a set too far forward and quite a few times drove right through the fairway into lost ball territory.
Sad....
Such a beautiful course setting, interesting to play, but the golfing public leave evidence of their complete disregard for, or ignorance of, golfing etiquette.
Not sanding a divot in the fairway, not repairing a ballmark on the green, or not raking a trap, are all evidence of their lack of regard for the course, as well as the golfer that comes behind them. Yet nowhere did I see signage reminding people of these basics
of golf protocol. IT IS VERY MUCH NEEDED!
Don't blame covid and a staffing shortage...I'm talking about things the golfer can do to make this a 5 star public course.
Great Shape
The fairways where in good shape. The greens rolled consistent and in great shape.
Great day on the golf-course
We were very happy to play this course again after one year break ,nicely kept greens and aver all beautiful .
Will be back soon
Everything but the pace of play was perfect
The course is in very good conditions except for the cart paths. The group in front of us was extremely slow which was frustrating. Other than that, very good day.
Loved it.
A true desert course. Stray and you're wrestling cacti and that's not fun. Greens will remain very good as long as people remember to fix their ball marks. Come on people. Great variety in types of holes. Beginning golfers should not attempt this course unless they have lots of balls to lose. The cart lady was wonderful and the clubhouse people were very hospitable. Thank you.
Great condition but slow
Expect 4 to 4 1/2 hours to play but new management and wet summer means better than average conditions. First Green is fastest (you are warned). Otherwise, they are very challenging (often more break than it looks). It is my favorite course right now - the best buy in Tucson.
Enke is in Tip Top Shape
It was very heartening to see Fred Enke in such good condition. As the only true desert track among the five city courses, it has always been my favorite. It has character. Today, the greens were as nice as I've seen them in a very long time, and fast, too. Sunday pin placements provided for a much higher degree of difficulty. It was fun. I was also very impressed by the condition of the bunkers. The grounds crew has certainly devoted plenty of time to them. They are often pits of hard pan with dried rivulets of erosion throughout. Not today, though. I would have preferred not to have found them, but since I did, it was a pleasure to play out of good, consistent ones with evenly distributed sand for a change. I was fortunate to have found the fairway often this round, and did not draw a bad lie on any of them. The same can be said about the fairways that I missed. The rodents aren't out this time of year, but I commented to my playing partner that the residual damage that has pervaded the course for years was nowhere to be seen this time. I congratulate management and staff for the fine job they've done preparing the course for this peak season, and correcting and/or improving on its traditional flaws.
Ok to work on your game
Clubhouse still closed for remodeling, carts old, cart paths (although some paved) are very bad or none existent. Play can be slow.
On the good, greens relatively fast, hold ok, bunkers better than most other Tucson municipal’s. Good value compared as well. A place to work on the game. Desert style layout a bit rough around the edges. Course restroom smells worse than most barnyards. Multiple tee choices make for fun play.
REstaurant
Restaurant is closed for under repairs but they is a small snack area that is unmarked. It closes at 2:00 pm while many are on the course. Why not keep it open to 5 or 6pm or put in a vending area for snacks and drinks .It would be nice to be able to get a drink after the round and relax before driving home. Love the course layout and it is improving. Also put in a 9 hole rate for after 4:00pm walking or riding
Enke
Been playing Enke for 20+ years and always enjoy it. It's a fair and enjoyable desert layout. It is not the best choice for the new golfer which was the case today. Pace was very slow. That aside it's a value at the price.
Tucson's best buy
Play was extremely slow - on 7, I could've hit the group ahead of the group ahead of me (4.5 hours to complete 18). Typical for this time of year and post Covid spike in golf popularity. It is the #1 general complaint for new golfers and TeeOff reviewers ... slow play. Large yardage variation for the different tee areas. Course is currently in great condition (normal for after reseeding) - unlike, say, 49ers (where every ball is a mud ball and the fairways are half 6-inch grass and half dead). Greens are very playable. Carts always work (unlike 49ers). This is the rare desert course with great views, I always get to see multiple coyotes (saw eight together once). This course has always been a best buy for city courses - so is highly recommended. It is longer (from the back tees) than most courses (like Starr Pass), similar to Randolph North.
