Fred Enke Golf Course

Looks like the city is doing an excellent job turning it around. Half of the course have paved cart path and in great shape. Tee boxes can be better, if they level and mowed it down. Other than that, overall conditions are surprisingly good. Bunkers actually have sand and better than any other courses around town. Range balls are fairly new.

Decent course and price was undermined by exceptionally slow play by one foursome. With no golfers in front of them it took almost 5 hours to play. Not sure if I will play this course again.

They ran out of carts. The tee box was open but no one could tee off because there were no carts available. We waited 35 minutes after our scheduled start time. Very annoying. Next time we'll walk.

Terrible! You need a four wheel drive for cart path, don’t play there you be disappointed

My first time in over a year here. Lots of noticeable improvements like some new paved cart paths along the eastern side of the course, trees and debris removed in areas knows to collect alot of balls. Easier to get around now. New rye grass coming in great at 3 weeks and greens have Poanna grass which was a bit slow today but in excellent condition This course should be great playing for the foreseeable future.

The golf course staff has done great job in investing in course improvements. For a city golf course, it’s a great value.

Used to play Fred Enke a lot back in the day, not much has changed except the nines have been reversed. Online apps and scorecards still don't reflect this although it has been quite a while since it changed. Number 1 is a par 4, number 2 is a par 5, etc. Number 18 (the old number 9) is a longish uphill par 4, the #1 handicap hole. For a Tucson City course the conditions were not too bad, the greens have a lot of slopes and they're kind of slow at the moment. I found a couple of sand traps today and the sand was actually quite soft allowing for a nice explosion. This course is somewhat target golf with various ravines and gullies that can gobble up a golf ball. If you're crooked off the tee you might lose a few balls. All in all a fun little course. I played the white tees and only hit a driver twice so placement is key. I can hit my 3W about 230-240 yds. The blues are about 6700 yards and would likely call for more drivers because on a lot of holes the blue tees are sometimes set back pretty far.

I've been playing the city courses for many years, and have watched this course undergo a major change over the last 6 or 7 years. Fred Enke has enough challenge for any handicap and still be very playable for most handicaps as well. If you want a true desert course experience without the hype and cost this course will impress you. The greens are surprisingly good and can be a true test when they're higher on the stimpmeter, weather permitting. The only drawback is, like most city courses, pace of play on the weekends can get slow. Great staff, friendly folks
