Great course, needs more drinking water on course.
Played many times *
The course is very nice. It is evident that the new management has been pouring lots work into Fred Enke. The staff is friendly and helpful. My only suggestion, management needs to add better drinking water options along the course. I understand money can be tight with public courses, however when the only drinking water is old, out dated drinking fountains, many people are forced to bring their own water. Not to mention, the fountains are placed in direct sunlight and the water is blazing hot. A simple fix is to add 9 or so large water jugs at every other tee box.
I generally bring my own drinks, but having the peace of mind that I don't have to ration my water throughout the course would be greatly appreciated. That Tucson sun is brutal, water is essential when you golf in Southern Arizona.
The ice water in the Club House is nice,
especially as you approach hole 10. Although many players don't like to stop after 9. Having water jugs along the course can be very attractive to those players.
To close, the course is in great shape and I love playing here. Just add some good drinking water along the course.
Course looks great
Best shape I've seen it in in a long time. Healthy fairways and greens. Keep up the good work...
Good value
Enjoyed , the young man in the club house was very nice answered questions about additional courses in the area in great detail
Target Golf
Fun golf course even though there are a few holes that seem a bit quirky. I've never been a fan of par 5's that take driver out of your hand. The two front side par 5's are just weird...but don't let that discourage you, three shot par 5's test your patience and can be fun as well! The sand traps should be filled in and just made to be grass bunkers, they are never playable...concrete!
Overall, this course grows on you and is a good test!
Best Tucson muni
Greens were very slow. Otherwise, course is in good shape and the only true desert muni in Tucson. Couple of forced carries that can be tough for seniors. Otherwise, a gem.
best bang for the buck
the course is the best muni I have played in Tucson and the price was right. I would pick this one far more often if it were a little closer to where I stayed.
I found the staff to be friendly, but not really forthcoming and I saw the cart girl just once. The cafe/bar was closed when I finished my round at 4:05, alas.
fun course to play
I enjoy this course; each hole is different and some have extremely challenging features (like, you can't see what's ahead of you without driving up and taking a look and there are some St. Andrews bunkers!). You'll have a good chance of seeing wildlife, too. Now, the disadvantages: poorly marked holes and limited directional signs (showing where to go for the next hole); would be challenging to walk, as there is some distance between holes; cafe closed by 4 pm; only one bathroom (hole 7 and 15), but lots of cover you could use if needed! Greens were in great condition; fairways in moderately good condition. Overall, well worthwhile to golf here.
This course is fun and has an interesting layout.
For a city course, this is a great buy as well as having some very interesting hole layouts with varying elevations, doglegs, and green play. They don't have a yardage book but you can print a course layout on the website or just consult the map at each hole. Enjoyed playing here several times and will continue.
Tucson's best Muni
The layout of Fred Enke is a delight. No cookie-cutter course here with monotonous side by side fairways. We love to walk Fred Enke and with just a couple of small hills, it is very walkable giving ample opportunities to see lots of wildlife and birdlife.
The greens are in excellent shape, with lots of contours. Tricky, but fair and true.
With no housing or roads nearby, it is a quiet, peaceful golf experience.
Fred Enke is a must golf and a must return.
A nice golf outing
The weather was nearly ideal and the course was in great condition for winter. The fairways were tight and the greens were moderately fast. Our foursome was able to complete 18 holes in 4 hours. We never waited on anyone and only had to let one twosome play through. Overall we had a great time on this interesting layout.
This course has terrible bunkers
The bunkers only have about 1/4 inch of sand mixed with dirt. You can't play a proper bunker shot out of the bunkers. Once you get down through the 1/4 inch of sand/dirt, the club hits hard ground, bounces and you either scald the ball or hit the side of the bunkers. Worst bunkers I have ever played.
The course has great views
I was a single but was teamed up with some great people, but the pace of the game was really slow from the groups up front, two other groups caught up to us
Very fair course
Play a bit slow, but not to the point of aggravation. Course and greens present a very good challenge.
pace was moving too slow
many people were moving too slow. finally gave up on the 2nd 9 holes and left the course.
Good
Was an average course, little pricey for the course.
Course needs a Marshall
Guess you get what you pay for. Glad we had a hot deal otherwise would be very upset. Took almost 5 hours to complete our round. Waited on every tee box. Course had too many people on it. Actually ran out of carts and had to wait until some golfers finished before we could get one. Some golfers seemed more interested in the beer than the golf. Course is wild. Loved that aspect.
Hate the Drought, Not the Course
Boy, when the City of Tucson lets Fred Enke start watering the fairways again, this course will be beautiful! Not a big fan of dormant crud. And those thinned out areas that front the approaches to the greens.
I enjoyed the mix of left/right doglegs and the absence of straight holes (except #18)! The par 5 layouts are very challenging in that they narrow down near the greens so it makes you decide on a risk/reward 2nd shot to try for the green. I chose to layup on every par 5 (except #18).
We'll be back!

local knowledge will help you score better, mainly on back nine. greens were pretty good. shot accuracy important!
