Avila Beach Golf Resort
About
Avila Beach Golf Resort is located right along the bay, giving it a scenic setting that has made it the most well known of the Central Coast golf courses. The layout offers plenty of variety with a hilly front nine that features small, often elevated, greens that are surrounded by oak-lined valleys and a back nine that that is routed across a tidal estuary. Golfers should be prepared for forced carries over water and multi-tiered greens on the backside. At first the course may seem short, but thanks to the dramatic elevation changes and numerous other challenges, it will begin to feel much longer. There are several severe doglegs throughout as well as tight approaches. Avila Beach Golf Resort is not a layout where you can easily "grip it and rip it." Rather, accuracy and good course-management are rewarded.

Worst course conditions
Green were the best of the round and maybe two were good, the rest were spotty at best. Fairways had minimal grass, bunkers were not groomed. I was playing the 17th hole and maintenance staff groomed the right trap, but not the left. The bunker behind had sand and weeds growing in it. Don't waste your time or money.
Looks like they have no maintance crew
Gofers everywhere, no irrigation on the fairways, dry and hard
Fun before the beach!
It’s a fun activity to do before heading to the beach (literally right across the street) when the overcast clears. Played 9 holes for a couple hours. It was a nice course all in all! Driving range didn’t allow drivers which bummed me out, but oh well! They sell cheap buckets with hit away balls, which I like. The course is nice, fairways are clean, ball washers all around, and bev cart definitely makes the rounds. Greens were a little patchy and rather fast, though. I like that that playing from the tips is an actual challenge on this course! Dog legs everywhere! Only complaint is the busted up cart path, be ready for a bumpy ride. Other than that, I loved it and I WILL be back to play the full 18
Disappointed
I have always wanted to play this course, and finally got the chance…. Boy was I disappointed. Terrible fairways, terrible greens, paired with a tough layout made for a bad day of golf. Definitely wont be back here for a while.
Avila golf course
Whom ever is maintaining the grounds , I feel doesn’t have any regard for the course, The greens aren’t even maintained, so sad cuz it’s a beautiful area!!
Avila
I’ll understand the grass and green issues, but if y’all could just clean up the duck poop more frequently then I’d gladly recommend this course to everyone I know. Love the tee boxes from hole 10 and 18.
Greens really getting worse
Playing in July generally means more crowds and course conditions dry out. We played here a month ago and greens were decent for the most part. But now burrowing critters have really affected the back 9 and lots of bumpy spots also. Other courses in the area are faring much better. Driving range is pretty poor.
Pace of play very very slow for a Friday morning. 5 somes didn’t help. Enjoy the weather and deer walking by. Worth it only if you get a great rate
Shameful
Pros: My rating is based on three factors: Very nice layout. Inexpensive. Avila beach has the best golf weather on the Central coast north of Santa Barbara.
Cons: It is a shame the owner could care less about the course. Cart pads that will rattle the fillings out of your teeth. Greens consisting of various species of multicolored grasses, both living and dead, and play like you’re putting on your grandmother’s quilt. Tee boxes that feel like you are standing on a freshly plowed field. Fairways that are a mixture of dead and dying crab grass, clover, and ground squirrel habitat. Sand traps that have not been refreshed in many, many years with "sand" that only exists in your imagination.
Course in bad shape and slow pace of play.
Course conditions have really gone down hill. Dead fairways, unkept sand, and barely playable greens. Green fees are still pretty high though. Seems like the only goal they have is making money by jamming in as many golfers as possible.
Course maintenance?
How about it? Anybody actually work on the course? Place is falling apart.
Not fun!
I played here a year ago and had a great experience. Yesterday was not. Fairways were bare. Greens were bumpy.. Carts dirty. Cart paths were dangerous. Drove from Fresno and wish I had not. Thankfully, we stayed two days and played at Cypress Ridge which was a great experience. Only bright spot was the food at Mulligans.
