Avila Beach Golf Resort
About
Avila Beach Golf Resort is located right along the bay, giving it a scenic setting that has made it the most well known of the Central Coast golf courses. The layout offers plenty of variety with a hilly front nine that features small, often elevated, greens that are surrounded by oak-lined valleys and a back nine that that is routed across a tidal estuary. Golfers should be prepared for forced carries over water and multi-tiered greens on the backside. At first the course may seem short, but thanks to the dramatic elevation changes and numerous other challenges, it will begin to feel much longer. There are several severe doglegs throughout as well as tight approaches. Avila Beach Golf Resort is not a layout where you can easily "grip it and rip it." Rather, accuracy and good course-management are rewarded.

Fun and fast after 2
Course has great golf now times weekdays after 2..... You can speed through 18 in 2.5 hours for 25/30 bucks.... Best deal around!
fairways and green good condition...but....
Always enjoy playing this course when in the area, however, the practice facilities are terrible. The "range" is AWFUL. There is no chipping practice area. The putting practice area is small. HOWEVER, ON THE PLUS SIDE...the course has interesting and somewhat challenging holes but is fair! It can get quite warm in the afternoon...so try to get out by 9AM the latest OR wait until 5 or so....It is a good value for the $$$$
We prefer to play by ourselves as a couple and they have always been able to ensure that for us. A round of 18 will usually take somewhere between 4 and 4 1/2 hours which is fine with us. Try to go during the week and it will be a very nice experience for you. We are retired and play during the week only so I have no idea of what it is like on the week-end.
9 handicap
Enjoyed the views and the staff was very friendly. Got to golf with one of my best friends that I haven't seen a about 3 years. Would recommend.
First timer
This was the first time I have played this course and overall things went well. Staff and course conditions were good -- just a little over- priced.
Very very slow play
This course needs a. Marshall in the worst way.
6 hour round the last two times playing it.
They finely updated there golf carts "big improvement".
Nice course, bad staff.
We had a tee time for 7:20 which we prepaid for and a bucket of balls for each person in our group. They're system was down so we didn't get to even check in until 7:25 at which point they made us go straight to the tee blocks. My group hadn't golfed in a while so the first hole we were all rusty. Half way through the marshal came and said we should play a scramble because we were to slow. We ignored him and after the first hole we caught the people in front of us because the first hole was a fluke since we had to start the day cold. Overall a good course but I really wouldn't go back because the staff was rude and we didn't get what we had paid for.
Interesting course
This course considering the drought in California is in pretty good shape. First time I've played this course and found it very interesting and fun to play. If rain ever comes back, course would be a must play when in the area.
course needs to fix........
Fairways r rough , there r several holes were very bad but....... environment is great.....
confusing layout
Some holes were not clear. Hard to find tees. Bunkers needed sand.
Try to play with
someone who has played the course before. Thanks to Rick & Linda who let me join them & helped with T shot direction & club to use. Some very tricky holes & dispite the drought you can see that with water instead of dried up areas, a tough & beautiful layout.
Always a challenge for me.
Always a challenge for me. The course lacks sand in their traps. Take a drop out of the sand traps to avoid damaging clubs.
Over Priced
THIRD TIME PLAYING HERE SO MY EXPECTATIONS WERE HIGH. COURSE IS DRIED OUT DUE TO THE LACK OF WATER, THE TEE BOXES WERE CHEWED UP, NO EXCUSED FOR THIS! THE PACE OF PLAY COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER BUT A FORESOEM IN FRONT OF A TWO SOME IN FRONT OF US, WAS PLAYING EACH SHOT AS THEY MUST OF THROUGHT THEY WERE PGA PROS! THIS PLACE AT THE RATE WE PAID WASN'T CLOSE TO BEING WORTH IT!
Avila Beach
Beautiful area, but course needs a lot of attention to fairways and greens. Lots of blind drive shots and the score card had no map so it was a guess each time. Golf cart had one tire that was bald - not worn, but bald to the stitching. Glad that I got the 40 dollar rate as it was not worth more than that. Would have been upset at anything more!
This course is in a sad state of disrepair
From the road leading into beautiful Avila Beach, the first impression of the course is one of discolored, splotchy fairways. The actual condition is far worse than it looks, and it's not due to lack of water. Several tee boxes were so wet and muddy they could not be mowed, and the fairways were a mixture of dried out hard-pan and standing water from a dysfunctional a irrigation system. The attached photo illustrates a most unusual immovable obstruction adjacent to the third fairway. Rusted sprinkler heads continued to squirt streams of water long after irrigation was finally turned off around 8:00am (we were forced to dodge active sprinklers for the first 8 holes after teeing off at 7:10am). Much of the front nine was also played amidst the unavoidable stench of raw sewage.
The greens and the immediate approaches to them were actually in very good condition. If the rest of the course were in that kind f shape, it would certainly be a fine resort course. But for now there are other far better courses to be played on the central California coast. At $21 on GolfNow, I could still only call it a "fair" value for money in light of it's current state of disrepair.
Amazing views
Played on a hot deal late afternoon . Not to much wind and pace of play excellent! Played the back tees. Nice test and variety of holes. Would recommend for sure!
Avila beach
Beautiful setting, was very windy when we played. Tough angles, local knowledge is huge. Small, lightning fast greens. Fairways are pretty weak. Bathrooms on the course were nasty and out of supplies. Back 9 plays much nicer. Staff was friendly and accommodating . Carts are trashed and no beverage girl. Pro shop has very limited merchandise. All in all, it was a challenging fun course. It has the potential to be great if they put some love into the property.
Beautiful Course
Wonderful course, beautiful setting. Front 9 in the hills and back 9 ocean side!
BUT, Course condition could be better. Greens were great, but just a bit hard. Tee boxes and fairways need attention. Many of the cart paths are decomposed granite, no problem if well maintained, but they were not. Many times you need to go around chuck holes in the path! Not good.
However still a real pleasure to play.

Great birdies
Great course, challenging with not being too painful. Only lost one ball.
Location was awesome with lot of great birds. And one birdie!
