Chula Vista Golf Course

I really like this course. There are several fairways and greens in need of work but they will get it back in shape. it's not that bad if you take relief from a bad area. The crew is the best around. Friendly and helpful.

This use to be a premier course to play about 10 years ago. Course layout and maintenance up-keep was by far one of the best in San Diego County. Over the last few years though it has resembled a cow pasture. I had not played the course in over a year because of shape it was in. I played it recently knowing the condition because I got a "Hot Deal" for $10. I played als a single so I just was out just to hit a few balls. I would not have paid more. Fact of the matter I probably will not play again if $10 was on the table. It is sad to write this review because Chula Vista Municipal use to be a course that you would recommend others to play while in San Diego,

The greens were awful. They have spots of thicker heavier grass on the greens that would make the ball jump off line. The ball wouldn’t roll it bounced toward the hole. They took one Par 4 and cut it down to a par 3 so the overall par was down to a 72 when they proudly advertised about being the only course with a par 73. We did the first 6 holes in an hour (2 of us playing) the next 3 holes took an hour. The last 9 took 2 Hours and 15 minutes.

Fairways were terrible on the majority of holes with deadspots a plenty. Greens were terrible on every hole!

I called the course in advance to inquire about the greens conditions. I was told they were punched 6 weeks ago which made me believe they were in playable shape. The pro shop told me they were still a little bumpy but I still decided to play. This was quite an over exaggerated statement. The greens haven't been cut, rolled, or maintained whatsoever. It was the equivalent of growing weeds in your yard. There are large patches of a different type of growth on the greens making them virtually un-puttable and inconsistent.

This would be a fun course but incredibly disappointing at the current moment. Wish I had photos to show. What a bummer!

This course is incredibly under-maintained. When I called the pro shop to inquire about the greens/course conditions, he said they aerated the greens 6 weeks ago. I believed this was ample time for the greens to come back and decided to play the course.

What a waste! The greens were overgrown, bumpy, and most certainly haven't been mowed in quite some time! The greens were totally recovered and the bumpiness was caused more by overgrowth than aeration holes. Several fairways were just as bad with dead spots everywhere. I wish I took photos for you all. What a bummer!

It appears that work is being done to improve course conditions.

Seems like they are in the process of preparing for long dry summer. Fairways were soaked in some areas and that kept me an extra club behind the hole in some parts; but some holes are looking like they should be in their best shape possible by the end of spring, others still need the hands of God. Tee boxes are pretty decent shape. Greens were okay, holding up in the least.

What happened to this course? What a mess. Fairways littered with huge areas of dirt, hardpan, and weeds. Greens were punched a month ago and still haven't come back. Worse yet, every green appears diseased. A LOT of kikuyu literally thriving on them as well. It's as if they're about to sell the property to developers. At least there was actual sand in the traps. Mid-May and it's in pathetic shape.

Course was in very bad shape. Greens were splotchy bumpy. Took away from the fun of the game. A lot of dirt here and there.

The pace of play was better than normal. They plugged the greens a couple of weeks ago. you need to put with your rescue club. Other than the greens the course is not in real bad shape.

Chula Vista Muni is a real test of your skill as a golfer. If you need perfect conditions go elsewhere but if you're ready to accept golf in it's natural and imperfect form, CV will give you your money's worth. Normally, the greens are good but there are huge areas in several of the fairways of dirt and zero grass. It's too expensive to maintain the course properly but the staff does a pretty fair job. The layout is one of the best in the county and most holes have OBs and Laterals on each fairway. You have to think and execute well or you're toast. But, the 19th hole is very nice oasis to recount the battle and plan a return. It's a Par 73 course that challenges you to play well and punishes you when you don't. But, a good score is justifiably celebrated.

First time playing this course. Over exceeded our expectations. Lush fairways and greens rolled true. Can’t beat a $23 hot deal with cart here. Would have paid more the way this course is!

The fairways were in terrible shape. Large bare spots on several holes. My cart was pretty beat up and the brakes also locked up on the 3rd hole. The staff was very friendly.

Overall it wasn’t a bad experience, this was my first time playing golf down in San Diego and was in a rush to find a tee time and didn’t do enough research on that course. Once I got there the course looked like it was in decent shape, fairways had a few bald patches but it wasn’t bad at all. Greens were good and layout was a good challenge. Not extremely long so it made for a fun day of golf. Probably wouldn’t play there again if I had time to do some reserch but it was good for the price. Shot an 87.
