Nice course.
The employees are the friendliest of any course in the county. Nice group. The course is fun. A little work going on, but nothing major.
This is a good course for practice.
If you're a short hitter like me, you'll have difficulty with this course, but if you keep it straight you'll have a chance to score well.
Good Course
This course looks like a summer course right now. It has some areas that are in need of repair, but almost every course in the county has this to some degree. This is a fun course, at reasonable rates. The staff goes out of their way to make you feel at home. I like the course a lot.
Comfy 18
Local 18 holes that plays well. Always great players to match up with. Good condition even with construction on 3rd hole.
Fair municipal course
I'm not an expert on CA courses, but this seems like a fair representation of a CA municipal.
The conditions were decent considering the summer season and perpetual drought. There was plenty of grass, and also plenty of bare spots. There were signs on the course indicating this course uses well water for irrigation, so it might be in better condition than other courses in the areas.
The greens were all nice. Maybe a few ball marks here and there, but not the fault of the course (come on golfers - fix your own divot plus one more every time).
What really stood out to me was the friendliness of the staff in the pro shop (this was huge - I forgot the guy's name but he was super friendly), in the snack bar (also very friendly and cute), and even on the course. I've never seen this before, but they had two volunteers riding around the course with water coolers. I saw them multiple times during the round and took advantage of the free, delicious water.
While the course itself wasn't exactly super scenic or the best conditions, it was a nice round and I wouldn't hesitate to play here again if the price and timing were right.
Gotta say......a little disappointed.
In San Diego on business / vacation and talked to a bunch of people about where to play and this one came up more than a few times as being a little gem close to the city. Thought I would give it a try through GolfNow. Pro shop guys were great, got me turned around in a couple minutes. Have a range off mats using a hodge pudge of balls but better than nothing. Started as a single but quickly caught a threesome and played with them until the turn. They were locals and seemed to know better. they stopped after 9
Played the front in 1:40 and back was 2:20. Long wait on every hole including a par 3 where there was a group hitting and 2 groups waiting. Never saw a Marshall or a beverage cart all day.
Greens were in great shape but rest of course could use some TLC. Nice layout, good value for the rate paid and probably would give it another try when back in the area.
More challenging course than most
Chula Vista has been my main course for a few years now.
Because it's an actual real golf course.
It gives an experience golfer a real fair challenge.
On many golf courses I feel they have just created couse for a feel good experience but don't have the challenges and the length to make a real golfing experience.
If you can get over the public course negatives.
And really understand the challenge and the design of the inventors layout. I think it's one of the best courses in San Diego County.
On a pretty regular basis I'll meet Golf players from North County who know about Chula Vista and they know it's a challenging course worth playing and learning how to beat.
Improving
Haven't played CV in a year or more, but you can tell someone is making an effort to improve the facility. Greens are actually quite good, and would be better if a few more folks would repair their ball marks. Fairways have some ragged areas, but they're being worked on. Overall, greatly improved. Pace of play was good until a five-some got together with 5 holes to go and slowed things to a crawl - possibly a ranger could have helped. Price is certainly fair and some of their specials are really good. Keep up the good work, I'll definitely will be back.
Played for a hot rate, wasn't worth it.
Most of the fairways had dead/bare spots. The front nine took 3 hours and the pace of play became slower on the back 9, so much so that my partner and I had to quit to avoid a 6 hour round. The staff is great very friendly and accommodating. I wouldn't recommend this course due to slow play and bad course conditions.
Great value
I remember about 8 years ago, after playing a 6 and a 5 1/2 hour round within 10 days at CV Mun., I swore I would never return as it seemed they were always overbooked.
Fast forward to 2017 and boy have things changed. In Feb. I moved to within 2 miles of this course and because of the convenience, decided to give them a chance again.
Night and Day difference!
The course is in excellent shape for the value that it is and the greens are in great shape. Staff is awesome top to bottom from what I have been exposed to and have had several A+ rounds since moving into the neighborhood. Keep up the good work CVMGC
The golf course is in good shape and the greens in excellent shape. However, hole number 3 has been shortened to par 3 due to construction work on the adjacent street and pedestrian trail.
Chula Muni
Muni course that's improving over time. Some holes have experienced major damage over the years but outside of those few holes the course is playable and for the most part pretty fun. Would love to see revamped tee boxes sooner rather than later. A pose to have flatter lies on the fairways than what is presently there on the tee boxes is backward. Greens are awesome and the bunkers are game. People there are super nice too.
first time round
Pace of play was very slow, but seemed to open up a bit on the back 9. Golf course staff was very friendly and worked hard. Course ambassadors moved singles around and built up 4soms. Did a great job.
If we could have speeded the round up it would have been deserving a higher rating.
