Chula Vista Golf Course

Was in the San Diego area and wanted to play. Saw this course on golf now and booked a 1230 round. Range balls were worn and mud brown. Mgr told me the ball washer was broken. Couse is old but laid out nicely. Pace of play was like watching grass grow. The 5 some in front of the 4 some in front of us were super slow. Took 3 hours to play 11 holes. Had to leave to drive back to LA. Play only of you have lots of time to finish. Nice lay out though.

Fairways not in very good shape. Greens were fine. Good course for the money.

Can be a little distracting with the jogging or running path adjacent to the Golf course.

While the layout of the course was questionable on the first holes, the value for the money was great. Also, the course was not too hard, not too easy, just right. One of the only flaws was the smell coming from the ill-maintained lakes. Would play again, and probably will.

There was a $5 deposit for the cart, just gotta remember to take the key to the pro-shop when done.

Course is on well water so it is nice and green. Nice overcast day so comfortable, but mid day summer could get fairly toasty.

This course was fun and challenging! The weather was kind of cloudy at times and the wind was mostly in your face so play a club lower. The greens were quick and very green...or well watered.

The condition of the course was ok. The fairways are a bit burnt/dried out which was a bit disappointing. The greens are in great shape and roll true, very pleased with them. The price on last minute golfer was $39.99, fantastic value for the course!

The greens just got punched but where playable, several interesting hole layouts.

Singles and doubles on a day when only foursomes should have been paired due to the

Volume of people playing. This drove several singles and doubles playing speed golf, to jump

Ahead of Our foursome without even having the courtesy to ask.

Slowest round I can remember playing, we left after 9 holes as we were fed up with waiting. First time we played here& last. The twosome that joined us agreed. The course allows fivesomes to play so you can imagine the the pace. we waited constantly, as did the other golfers as far behind us as we could see. Complained to the pro shop manager who shrugged & said they allowed it. They don't care they just want the money.

Course was good, condition not so good. Do not go Thursday, there is a men's league with unlimited tee times so we and others were bumped later.

I started birdie at 1st hole. And made 3 birdies at first 5holes. Than I met stanley with his girl friend.
We was joined and played remand holes. And We had fantastic round. Especially Stanley made long chip in birdie at 16th hole. It's unbelievable shot that I had never seen before. So great something happens for you.

Good course to play with your kids. Staff is friendly and engaging.

A couple things stand out. First they allow froups of 5?!? Second it's a very small course with lots of par fives everybody thinks they can get on In 2 (more wait time) finally by #8 2 groups in play 2 groups waiting on box. Staff did make 1 effort to speed it up and told us we " would be flying now" what a joke left after 13 holes which took over 4 hours. Note to staff a group of 5 hacks will never work carts or not. Player here if you or only an extreme beginner

This course has great value for the $ you spend. 2 Green fees including a cart was about $70. Can't beat that. Greens are great, esp considering we are in a drought. I'd play here again.

Teed off at 1PM. Usually play is quick at this time. The 1st nine started slowing down about the 5th, and got worse from there. Frustrating when people group up in five then refuse to play quick!

Decided late Saturday to hit the ball Sunday morning. Went online and booked an 8 am tee time. Got there early to hit balls, but they were picking the range. Got out early with a foursome. Never waited on any holes, played in around 4:15.
While there is a drought, Chula Vista gets their water from wells, so they can water better than most. But, they have salt intrusion on their wells! Not good for grass! Fairways were aveerage, at least for San Diego area, where there were some bare spots and bad lies, but for the most part, okay. Greens were in good shape, although they have different grass creeping in on most of the greens. Needs to be cut out and fixed! Still, didn't really effect putts much, as grass was cut low. They putted very true.

The course is a fun track with many holes requiring good shot making decisions. I think we have some well thought out muni courses in San Diego but they are all in such poor shape, especially Chula Vista.

Most all fairways were terrible and your ball is either on thin grass or bare dirt. I felt almost penalized for hitting the ball into the fairway. The greens were in nice shape and the only negative was that they were slow.

The pace of play was terrible. We were stuck behind many groups playing very slow. Reading reviews of others this seems to be the normal here.

Overall though, I would play here again, but I'd be cautious of when that would be do to the pace of play.
