Steele Canyon Golf Club is a 27-hole layout designed by Gary Player that is hailed as one of southern California's best courses. The holes are divided into three nines that are played in different 18-hole combinations. The Canyon, Ranch, and Vineyard nines each offer a different set of challenges. The Canyon/Ranch Course starts in an expansive canyon, climbs across dramatic elevation changes, and then wraps around an operating ranch. Free-roaming cattle wander all along the back nine. Although there are no blind shots, golfers will be faced with uneven lies and elevated greens. Steele Canyon's signature hole is the Ranch's par-4 third hole. The tee is perched 175 feet above the fairway and plays into the prevailing winds that blow from left to right. It is one of San Diego County's most memorable holes.

Slow

1st nine took 3 hours. Played thru 14 to get a stipulated round. The course is interesting with lots of vistas and forced carries. Not a place for high handicappers. The staff was very friendly but forced too many people onto the course. Its a tough ask for first timers at the course and would be a better experience after getting to know it but with all the others in the region i would pick elsewhere if i happened to be here again.

BRING AN EXTRA TOWEL - Punched Sandy Greens

First time playing. Heard great things and decided to drive over an hour from North County to give it a shot. Smiling staff, warm welcome clubhouse, spacious practice area. All great initial impressions.

Once we headed out to the course on our squeaky suspension, bald tire, usb disconnected golf cart we were EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with the wet sandy punched greens. I loved the course layout, but would expect much more for $130.00. I recommend giving your patrons a heads up about green conditions prior to purchasing, AND GET SOME NEW GOLF CARTS!!!

We are sorry you were not informed of the course conditions in advance of your reservation, it can be a challenge with online 3rd party reservations. Our website does list our maintenance dates, our staff tries to inform people over the phone, and we do have signs throughout the golf shop and starter booth, so by no means are we trying to deceive. Many people have commented how well the greens roll for being recently punched, a credit to our maintenance staff with their extra efforts after all these rainy days. New golf carts are on order, but it is still an item severely back-ordered from the pandemic. We hope you come visit again and are able to enjoy Steele Canyon in its entirety.

The course condition was good, Tight lies on the fairways, which are not my friend. The greens were pristine and rolling fast and true. However, the pace of play was ridiculous at 2:50 for the front and overall at 5+ hrs. I know they want to stack and pack them, but please rethink the time intervals. There were 3 groups on the 3rd tee and it never got any better from that point onward.. Too long a round most likely will not result in return business,

Not in great shape

Course layout is awesome, but the pace of play is ridiculous. People are waiting on the tee thinking they can reach the group in front of them 330 yards away, not possible for 99% of golfers. Greens are way too fast and pin placements are terrible. The fairways aren’t in great shape for almost being $100 course. Every lie is a tight lie going into the grain. Probably won’t come back again.

Tough track!

Great course, tough off the tips - significantly longer (in a good way).. Played Canyon and Vineyard. Pace of play was slow due to full course. Will come back soon!

Beautiful challenge

Fantastic setting near San Diego. Good layout with lots of difficult shots. A combination of lightning fast greens (Stimp 11) and tightly mowed fairways makes chipping and pitching challenging. It's a once-in-a-while pleasure, as best on-line rates were $83 mid-week. Worth the gorgeous views and the challenging experience. Once.

Five hour round

Can't really compliment a course when it takes 5 hours to play. When they suggest combo teas, the scorecard should spell out which tee to play -- particularly on Canyon 9.

Great and Fun Course

This course was fun and challenging with many tee boxes seemingly a hundred feet above where you're aiming. The greens were quick rolling at an 11. For the most part the course was kept very nice. Would recommend playing to a friend.

Always love this course

Challenging for a high handicapper but enjoyed it all the same. Very interesting layout.

Some areas a little bare but typical for San Diego courses with drought and now XS rain.

Fun to see horseback riders, road runner, and other birds along the way. Staff is always welcoming and helpful!
