Steele Canyon Golf Club is a 27-hole layout designed by Gary Player that is hailed as one of southern California's best courses. The holes are divided into three nines that are played in different 18-hole combinations. The Canyon, Ranch, and Vineyard nines each offer a different set of challenges. The Canyon/Ranch Course starts in an expansive canyon, climbs across dramatic elevation changes, and then wraps around an operating ranch. Free-roaming cattle wander all along the back nine. Although there are no blind shots, golfers will be faced with uneven lies and elevated greens. Steele Canyon's signature hole is the Ranch's par-4 third hole. The tee is perched 175 feet above the fairway and plays into the prevailing winds that blow from left to right. It is one of San Diego County's most memorable holes.

Great hidden gem of a course

This course was not bad, but it was not worth the green fees. Comparable to other muni course options with better greens for half the price. This course is tucked within million dollar homes and surrounded by mountains. There are (3) - 9 hole courses which I liked, but only 2 were options to be played at the time. It’s a pretty easy course if you can keep it on the fairway. I liked how almost every other tee box was elevated. Good views and scenery for those picturesque memorable golf photos. Might be tough for seniors or other players with mobility issues. Overall, I recommend to play at least once.

Course had lots of ravines, brush, water and hill top hazards as you hit from top of canyons. Made it very challenging!

This course would be excellent if it had GPS in the golf carts!

It has a little bit of everything. Hills, ravines, water, and can loose many balls if you can’t drive it 150 yards.

For the money I wish it had a GPS system in the golf carts, then I’d love to play it regularly.

Mr. Rousseau,

We are sorry your experience was less than satisfactory. There was a Marshall/Player Assistant on duty that afternoon, actually 2 when you started, but with 27 holes you may have missed them. If you are to have a similar experience in the future it is advised you call the golf shop to let them know what is going on so they can try and help remedy the situation. The phone # is listed on our scorecard which is placed on every cart. In addition, if our Starter had been made aware it was your first time visiting he has plenty of course guides that are complimentary to our guests. Again, we apologize you were not better looked after.

Not a good resort course - May work for members

Very disappointing . Without a guide, it was virtually impossible to play. Too many blind shots and unknown distances to hazards. Conditions were mediocre at best. The round took over five hours. There were no marshals.

Steel Canyon is a hidden gem

Steele Canyon is a hidden gem. Greats course with all kinds of elevation changes. Greens were in fantastic shape. Really fair layout. Just wish the fairways were a little better shape but its hard with the drought in San Diego. Would definitely play this course again .

rip off

The course is fine. Decent layout. My problem: I rented clubs whichThe course is fine. Decent layout. My problem: I rented clubs which weren't of a standard one expects at a high-priced course. 12 clubs in the bag. The shaft of each club was marked with distracting green tape (I guess to identify as course

property??)....If I hadn't paid an exorbitant price to rent this set of 12 clubs (the putter belonged in a yard sale), I wd have enjoyed this impressive layout.
