Course Highlights
The three-nine layout delivers dramatic elevation changes and stunning scenery that consistently impress golfers unfamiliar with San Diego's hilly terrain. Friendly staff and well-maintained greens that hold up even after heavy rains make this course a reliable, rewarding choice.

Steele Canyon Golf Club is a 27-hole layout designed by Gary Player that is hailed as one of southern California's best courses. The holes are divided into three nines that are played in different 18-hole combinations. The Canyon, Ranch, and Vineyard nines each offer a different set of challenges. The Canyon/Ranch Course starts in an expansive canyon, climbs across dramatic elevation changes, and then wraps around an operating ranch. Free-roaming cattle wander all along the back nine. Although there are no blind shots, golfers will be faced with uneven lies and elevated greens. Steele Canyon's signature hole is the Ranch's par-4 third hole. The tee is perched 175 feet above the fairway and plays into the prevailing winds that blow from left to right. It is one of San Diego County's most memorable holes.

Good course, would play again

Really enjoyed the course, greens were in rough shape, apparently fix your ball-mark is not a thing here. But overall the course played well and quick.

The golf beverage cart was only seem twice on front 9 and they only had 1 bottle of water, never saw them on the back 9.

If your a first timer, be prepared for chilly reception by the staff for invading their space. .

We apologize that the greens were not up to their usual very good standards as Steele Canyon values its greens as being the most consistent in the County year around. There was a large charity tournament the day before, clearly got some wear and tear. In addition, it was a busy day with lots of drinks going around, short staffed as is the case with many during Covid. We apologize for the poor reception, it is definitely not the norm and hope you will visit us again soon.

I Love This Place

All 3 9’s are wonderful layouts. They are fun and challenging. The condition of the course was amazing, the fairways green and the greens are in great shape. I spent a good part of my day repairing other peoples ball marks, but the course can’t screen out the idiots, unfortunately.

Exceptional character

This golf course has 3 different nine hole counterparts. I played upon the canyon and vineyard 9's. I LOVE the vineyard nine. There's a need to successfully hit all 14 clubs you have in your bag really well!

The greens were quick, but manageable. I made a lot of putts out there today.

Enjoy wonderful and difficult shots!

Great course, but felt pressured by tournament players

We loved the course but had a members of the Friday tournament crowd come down while we were playing the first green and intimidatingly tell us to hurry up on the first hole and throughout our 18 holes. We kept the pace of play and were respectful. Was disappointed to know that public members who paid green fees were looked down upon at such a renowned course.
