Course Highlights
The three-nine layout delivers dramatic elevation changes and stunning scenery that consistently impress golfers unfamiliar with San Diego's hilly terrain. Friendly staff and well-maintained greens that hold up even after heavy rains make this course a reliable, rewarding choice.

Steele Canyon Golf Club is a 27-hole layout designed by Gary Player that is hailed as one of southern California's best courses. The holes are divided into three nines that are played in different 18-hole combinations. The Canyon, Ranch, and Vineyard nines each offer a different set of challenges. The Canyon/Ranch Course starts in an expansive canyon, climbs across dramatic elevation changes, and then wraps around an operating ranch. Free-roaming cattle wander all along the back nine. Although there are no blind shots, golfers will be faced with uneven lies and elevated greens. Steele Canyon's signature hole is the Ranch's par-4 third hole. The tee is perched 175 feet above the fairway and plays into the prevailing winds that blow from left to right. It is one of San Diego County's most memorable holes.

Pleasantly satisfied

Was a bit windy but sun was out and perfect day for golf. We played Vineyard/ Canyon 9's in just about 4 hours. Fairways like most the county are a little hard and dry but greens were in good shape. People playing need to repair divots on greens (jerks). Staff at pro shop, starter, on course were pleasant and helpful. 19th hole food, staff and cheer was excellent. We'll be back for another round.

Canyon - Yes, Ranch - ?

Played on a Friday with my son. The course was relatively empty and pace was excellent. Loved the Canyon course with it's expansive views and it's elevation changes. Ranch course was disappointing in that's it flat and winds through a dilapidated ranch with junkyards and old trucks. Both layouts were well designed, long, and challenging. Would play Canyon again but not Ranch.

Overpriced for the course conditions

Was extremely disappointed with the condition of the fairways, which were semi dormant but also had patches of taller/thicker grasses all throughout every fairway. Greens were nice, rolled quick, but horrible with unrepaired ball marks. Course was WAY overpriced, even with the GolfNow rate. The normal $129 rate is absurd. Beautiful property, but not even close to an appropriate rate. Course was empty so pace of play was whatever we wanted.

Slow play

Wish they would have warned us of a women’s tournament in front. The round took over 5 1/2 hours on a Monday morning. This is unsatisfactory!.

Fun, difficult course

Had to pay full price to play aerated greens and tee boxes. Especially disappointing when they have three, nine hole courses. Other than that, fun, challenging course.
