Course Highlights
The three-nine layout delivers dramatic elevation changes and stunning scenery that consistently impress golfers unfamiliar with San Diego's hilly terrain. Friendly staff and well-maintained greens that hold up even after heavy rains make this course a reliable, rewarding choice.

Steele Canyon Golf Club is a 27-hole layout designed by Gary Player that is hailed as one of southern California's best courses. The holes are divided into three nines that are played in different 18-hole combinations. The Canyon, Ranch, and Vineyard nines each offer a different set of challenges. The Canyon/Ranch Course starts in an expansive canyon, climbs across dramatic elevation changes, and then wraps around an operating ranch. Free-roaming cattle wander all along the back nine. Although there are no blind shots, golfers will be faced with uneven lies and elevated greens. Steele Canyon's signature hole is the Ranch's par-4 third hole. The tee is perched 175 feet above the fairway and plays into the prevailing winds that blow from left to right. It is one of San Diego County's most memorable holes.

Scenic beauty

Steele Canyon has three, very different, 9-hole courses - the Ranch, the Vineyard, and the Canyon. Each of them is beautiful in their own way. I personally prefer Ranch and Canyon, but the Vineyard is also a great course.

San Diego favorite

Love the layout and challenges of this course. Have played multiple early morning and also twilight rounds and the time of day really changes the play of the greens and course. I put this course up there with the likes of Maderas and Barona if the conditions are good, and at a much friendlier price for county residents it’s one of my go to weekly courses.

Great course terrible members

Fun course, a few things that really disappointed me though. I have played there twice in the past 2 weeks 1st time with my father who was in town from Ohio and the second time celebrating a good friend visiting from Canada for his birthday. 1st time there was a group of 5 ahead of us that was not super slow but did not offer to let a 2some pass and the next time there was a group of 8 ahead of us. The group of 8 was yelling screaming and taking up to 25 minutes a whole. When I called the front desk they sent a marshal out to speak with the gentleman only to let them continue with again EIGHT people playing since they are members. We caught up to them on the turn and by hole 15 we had decided enough was enough and decided to call it a day, as we drove past the group more vulgar comments were made and they were sure to let us know that we were not allowed to pass them and if we tried to play through they would be hitting into us..... As I was talking to the front desk on our way out another one of their members finished up and started complaining about the same group. He said this has been happening regularly and was very disappointed. I was told to send an email to Alan Sheer the director of golf. His response "The group is known to play at a pace of under 3.5 hours on a daily basis, although we do not permit groups greater than 5s with our Members." Not sure why when the ranger went to talk to them he allowed them to continue with 8. After a round like that and a half hearted sorry for our members I am not sure I will ever be back.

Great Course

The course was in great condition. Local knowledge is very helpful. The pro shop gave me a yardage book. I ended up playing the back nine with a member, which really helped out with how to play some of the holes.

Several holes had pin placements that were unfair for putting in my opinion.

slow today and marshal did not help, he did not know the status of the front 9 at all

the course is a great and our favorite course in south county but the pace of play was slow today and the $125 plus $25 for the extra cart and range balls cost me $290 for my son and i to play a round.

Nice course

Nice course fun layout challenge with no experience. Some carries are tough to judge. Greens were excellent some fairway issues. I would not pay 100$ to play this course.

Another great outing at Steele Canyon

Course is drying out somewhat, but i have to hand it to the staff in keeping it in good conditions with latest heat we have been having.

Greens are fast, somewhat tricky. Must place the ball in strategic areas to score well throughout the course. Course is for skilled players and it rewards good shots. Staff is very friendly, always fun to play here.
